I have been dreaming of a device that contains everything. A computer or full compatibility with a computer, Phone, Agenda, Calendar and widgets, TV, Music. some of my friends say it exists! but no, not what I want. lets hope Apple comes up with something that will make the 21st Century communications just as we dreamed back in the last century.
That reminds me that my contract of Nail ends in september. I don't want to change to Flearison but they offer good packages. My sister has her cellphone with Gourmeet and she loves it. She has tried before to convince me to get Gourmeet but I have been reluctant to change carriers. In September I will have to decide if I want to change to other company than Nail. There is so much Nailing going around...

Phil: Say Steve, can we have a chat real fast ? then starts up iChat on his iPhone..
Jobs: starts up iChat on his cell phone..

The rest is history :D

Thank you for elaborating so deeply.

Yeah - i think you are right, either Vodafone or T-Mobile arse-end.

What does that mean though? They are tied-to whatever the arse wants?

Virgin Mobile uses T-Mobile's network in the UK and Sprint PCS in the US. In fact Virgin Mobile is using another network in every country in which it's available.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I see Apple making the phone themselves and selling it through a carrier instead of unlocked GSM. Nobody wants to go to a separate place to get theire phone and pay a ridiculous price for it and then pay more for another SIM card and then hope that it'll work with their GSM carrier.

He speaka da truth. Surely you'll be buying an Apple branded phone from the Apple Store? (different prospect to iPods et al where you can buy them at your supermarket!)

1 - I doubt it'll be a flip phone, more likely to be candybar or something along those lines.

2 - I doubt it'll be locked to a network. If it's going to be marketed worldwide, it'll have to be SIM free or else come on all networks.

3 - hope the 6th iPod IS the iPhone, although there must be a "standard" 6G iPod model as well.

Phone or new ipod

In Europe you can already find ipods at a discount rate (15%).
Is there any relation with a possibile iphone or new ipod in August?

That is only because CDMA had such a jump on GSM in the USA, and the GSM carriers in the USA are still smaller. Verizon also has a massive analog network that T-Mobile won't touch as their phones are GSM only.

Unfortunately, the free market approach adopted when installing networks in the USA has led to a number of problems, and while you might think Verizon service is good relative to the other US carriers, it cannot compare to the carriers in Europe who use a shared GSM network that was adopted after much deliberation. Like most of the world, we are GSM-only.

I find it odd how so many people from the States complain about service. Here in Canada, while it's still probably the most expensive place to have have a mobile (more so than the US, and wayyyy more than Europe or Asia), the tech has been put into place quite well. There were two GSM networks for the longest time (Rogers and Fido) and they have since merged into a massive and awesome network as far as quality goes. Now the two largest nets (Rogers and Bell) are partnering to provide a WiMax-style service coast to coast (albeit with a massive and non-portable modem). The only drawback in Canada is our sparce population that makes it harder to reduce prices. And now that Fido and Rogers aren't competing anymore, prices on the GSM side have gotten worse.

...eventually Sprint and Verizon will give in...
Not necessarily so. They will attempt to re-write the laws as they are with net-neutrality. They originally had nothing to do with the internet and didn't see the light until the cash started to flow in and now they are using their leveraged hand in Washington D.C. to get what they want. Don't think for a moment they won't do the exact same thing with GSM. If they cant' get their grubby little hands around it then they'll prevent it from happening. It's an age old technique. Look at how well they have prevented some of the European telecommunication companies from entering this market.

And what is the DEAL with Verizon? Why do they always get the good phones first ...
I seriously hope you're joking. Verizon has a horrible selection of phones, and they always take ages to get the new phones, considering they ever get them at all.

I'm in the market for a new phone so if Apple does release a phone that will work on all networks, and is reasonably priced (yeah, right.. heh) then I'm all over it!

The iPhone - photo?

City Fido unlimited :) Saw the writing on the wall and grabbed it before the companies merged. Sure is nice using it 24/7 for a flat rate.

This has to be the 20th iPhone front page rumor posting...

Why do we even care anymore?

I think the iPhone rumors should be shelved until this thing is actually on a SHELF.

THEN I will care....

I have no doubt that some day this will come out. But until then, "some guy" rumors.....we can do without.

Hey, now. My rumors are just as valid as the next guy's. :p I had to do it.

also might like to add in there are quite a few adtages of CDMA over GSM. For one CDMA has faster data tranfer rates and is more securite that GSM. I know quite a few of verizon phones are tri mode which will allow them to connect to the GSM network. Mind you that you will not have access to some features but I know they will jump to Anlog, CDMA and GSM and I have verson phones do just that.

Just figure I point out CDMA has a lot of techology advatages over GSM. Just GSM is used most places in the world. Mind you GSM used in the US is not the GSM used else in the worlds.

one problem, that will never happen. Alltel does not own their network or even remotly have any form of cash to set it up. they just rent their network.

That's just blatently not true. Alltel purchased Sprint's Analog network when Sprint transitioned to PCS technology. Since that time they have added digital packages to all of those analog towers. In the past five years they have quietly become the world's largest Analog roaming provider (hehe, whoppee I know, but at least they own it :p ).

They certainly own their own towers. They did enter into a 10 year roaming service agreement with Sprint and Verizon a couple of years ago to provide them with National service.

But to say that Alltel does not own their network, and they just rent their network is exactly opposite from what is the truth!

Update: Engadget points to an AppleInsider post revealing that the June 28th iPod updater package has some Phone related text strings such as "t_feature_app_PHONE_APP, kPhoneSignalStrength, clPhoneCallModel, clPhoneCallHistoryModel, prPhoneSettingsMenu".
holy *expletive*

there is NO reason for an iPod updater to include a 'phone settings' or 'call history' menu... it doesn't update itunes for the ROKR!!! Only other answer? iPhone!

Thanks MacRumors, now I cant get a new phone until at least after WWDC. You ruined me! :p

TriMode means that the phone can talk to two bands of CDMA digital service and one band of analog service. AMPS (analog) 850 MHz, CDMA 850MHz, and CDMA 1900MHz.

GSM is not in the definition of a Trimode phone from Verizon, or any other CDMA provider.

I'd get an Apple phone simply because it would sync with macs so seamlessly. Sony Ericsson seems to be the best right now, but the calendar sync always screws up and it's hard to use anyways. An Apple phone would sync with Address Book, iCal, iTunes, iPhoto and more with no issues at all and likely have an excellent interface to access all of this from the phone. Even as a broke student, I'd find a way to come up with the funds for this when it arrives.

Like an N80, please

I am in the market for a new phone, my Moto V600 is going to be detonated with a sledgehammer, lots of explosives or anything else nasty I can do to it.
I used to use Nokia phones, much better interface than Moto's, but I have heard that SonyEricksson is pretty good, so I was looking at the Sony w810i when Cingular finally releases it.
I also have considered the N80 which does have WiFi, Bluetooth, miniSD up to 2GB, video, 3MP camera, all the goodes.

So, if you could get something like the N80 that also did well with .mac, iSync, iTunes, etc, I would get it in a minute!

As for this rumor, seems like a sketchy source, but there are lots of overall hints towards some sort of iPhone.

How about some names?
iPhone << ok, but generic and the iWhatever is overdone
iPDA << ick
iPim << Sounds too much like iPimp
pomme << means Apple, but sounds too much like Palm
Synchro << snych, techno, ok I am not marketer

But bring it on!:D

I have the w810i and absolutely love it. If Apple doesn't release anything, then I highly recommend it. If only my Cingular service was as good as the phone.

Phone Home...

Living in the U.K., I didn't know signal strength was such a problem in the U.S. I guess it's a very big country with not much population in large areas, but are signals poor in reasonably populated areas? In the U.K., I guess we take it for granted getting a solid connection all the time. Also, I'm surprised that the U.S. is "behind" in the 'phone department compared to other continents. I thought Americans would be at the forefront. Does that mean 'Cellular' isn't accurate? ;)

I really do hope Apple do release a 'phone soon as I have not bought a new 'phone just because of these rumors. My Motorola V600 is starting to have problems now. I was tempted to get the Motorola ROKR, but Orange didn't have it on their Pay Monthly selection. I really do hope that if this Apple 'phone ever comes out that Orange will be quick off the mark to provide it. They're always so slow providing new 'phones compared to other networks.

Yeah, I think it's ridiculous to not get cell service in Denver Front Range, a population of about 3mil. I see GSM as the future of phones (for the distant future) and I want to dump my CDMA phones because I think it's so cool to have a quad-band phone work everywhere in the globe. The guys at Quallacomm were pretty smart, but not as smart as those French guys across the Atlantic.

I had better reception out in Bumf*ck Nowhere than I did when I went to New York City. If I'm able to hold a crystal clear call in a tiny little Louisiana town of less than 700 people that had nothing more than a run down gas station (only reason I was there in the first place), then I should be able to do the same in the middle of Manhattan.

Reason #939828344342320524 I hate Cingular and will be switching to antother provider the day my contract with them is up in December.
