Living in the U.K., I didn't know signal strength was such a problem in the U.S. I guess it's a very big country with not much population in large areas, but are signals poor in reasonably populated areas? In the U.K., I guess we take it for granted getting a solid connection all the time. Also, I'm surprised that the U.S. is "behind" in the 'phone department compared to other continents. I thought Americans would be at the forefront. Does that mean 'Cellular' isn't accurate? ;)

I really do hope Apple do release a 'phone soon as I have not bought a new 'phone just because of these rumors. My Motorola V600 is starting to have problems now. I was tempted to get the Motorola ROKR, but Orange didn't have it on their Pay Monthly selection. I really do hope that if this Apple 'phone ever comes out that Orange will be quick off the mark to provide it. They're always so slow providing new 'phones compared to other networks.

Things are great in Canada too. I had not idea the US sucked so bad for Cell phones. Canada is still behind in that 2/3 of our carriers are CDMA instead of GSM, but at least we get decent reception, especially in urban centres, but also in the middle of nowhere, and we're far less densely populated than the US.

This is the fakest fake that's ever faked. It's ugly, has bad icons for the most part, stupid error messages. Not Apple at all.

Yeah, okay. I'm convinced it's coming.

But not at WWDC. Apple will wait till MWSF so that this xmas is all about the new iPods. Apple wouldn't try to aggressively market two similarly-priced products at the same time.

Plus, "Organizer" is misspelled "Organiser" << Safe to say it's a fake - as is the one of the guy using a stylus to control OSX 10.5 on his iPod 2 videos down the list.

I believe that's the proper spelling in the UK. It's usually "ise" instead of "ize". Authorize/Authorise is another one.

Why is it that we are all getting more posts on this subject - which is just some guy making up crap, show me one bit of evidence - than we were when there was the quite convincing fakes of the the "true" video iPod.

Although the iTalk vid on YouTube with the phone floating in the air looks pretty awesome.

I saw those on macworld.co.uk. BTW the first and the third link of yours are the same. There's another fake commercial, too. Link. That one gave me the shivers in a good way. They're well done. Are they student projects?

you guys seem to be ignoring the fact that there is hard evidence that the apple phone is for real and should be expected in the forseeable future (within a month or so).

http://forums.appleinsider.com/showthread.php?threadid=64885

so please... someone explain why there are such things as

t_feature_app_PHONE_APP

kPhoneSignalStrength

in an ipod nano updater!! you guys have been mac users too long, experienced too many false products that you barely trust something as obvious as this!

It will arrive (long over due IMO)... the big question now is when.

FCC Approval?

This might have been covered, but the FCC would have to give its blessing for any new mobile phone and no one has uncovered that proof yet? And i know there are folks scouring through the FCC for just this kind of thing.

I see Apple making the phone themselves and selling it through a carrier instead of unlocked GSM. Nobody wants to go to a separate place to get theire phone and pay a ridiculous price for it and then pay more for another SIM card and then hope that it'll work with their GSM carrier.
Apple certainly has to consider that if a telco wants to subsidise an Apple phone, it'll get some users who would otherwise go for a nokia or sony subsidised phone.

However - there are people are already paying a bit for an iPod, and those same people may pay for an Apple phone. Also, the more expensive phones are rarely free anyway (or need to be on a high volume plan).

ps. There is no "hoping" that a GSM phone will work with a GSM carrier. I've never had a problem moving a GSM phone from carrier to carrier, and cross countries - the GSM standards are quite well defined.
