Please let it be Split/Unbreakable/Sixth Sense Shmamalan, and not Lady in the Water/Happening/Signs Shyamalan.

I still dig on Signs, Gibson is ridiculously fun, and it's +way+ more of an allegory than a conventional narrative (so I put on that hat and enjoy :D)

Blech. That's really all I can say to this. Yeah, 6th Sense was good, and I haven't seen unbreakable, but I heard it was bearable.

It's way more than bearable, it's among the best of modern "superhero" films, it's beautifully shot, and a fantastic deconstruction of the genre.

Do yourself a favor and watch Unbreakable ... and follow it up with Split ;)

I recall a part in the movie where they show on TV footage of a bunch of UFOs in the sky, and another part where they mention a bird that had fallen out of the sky after hitting a sort of invisible forcefield in the air.

I think there was eyewitness claim of strange lights in the sky, UFOs, and birds falling out of the sky.

But just like these types of eyewitness claims in real life, they could be anything and are typically natural phenomena, man-made aircraft, or even hysteria.

We never actually see spaceships in the movie.

There really aren't any bad movies - just movies you didn't like. Even the worst movie still got people paid, and the peeps gotta eat.

I liked the "Wayward Pines" series that was filmed in Canada. The first season could have stood on its own. It looked like they could not come up with an good twist for season two but I was curious what the writers were going to do in a session three.

Wayward Pines season 1 was quite good. Season 2 was an atrocious train wreck (and I believe Shyamalan was not involved). I’m utterly shocked that the cancellation notice for Wayward Pines season 3 took this long. I’ll give anything the benefit of the doubt.

Overrated director in my opinion.

Judging by how much sheer negativity there is regarding Shyamalan anytime he is mentioned, I'd say he's not overrated at all.

His films definitely vary in quality; but, all things considered, he's a good director. Avatar, for example, had a lot of problems with the production and the whims of the producers, so he's not entirely to blame for how badly it turned out.

My favorite movie of all is Unbreakable, and I look forward to seeing what he does going forward with the sequel, especially since Split was so wonderful.

LOL @ Apple

That's gotta be embarrassing for them. Whatever, Apple has no business in producing cinema anyway... this is the director they deserve.

The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs were great but boy did his filmography deteriorate quickly after those.

He returned to form with Split but I won’t pay money to see his movies in theaters or to rent them. They’ve got to get good reviews or I have to hear from friends with similar tastes before I’ll pay money to see his work. He got too caught up in twist endings. They don’t matter if the movie that comes before them isn’t compelling.

After Avatar, Last airbender, he should just be banned from making movies ever again!

Agree, that was one of the worst adaptations ever. He had so much good material to draw from, the series was amazing, but he crated total garbage.

When does Apple plan on releasing their original content? Seems like they are picking up everything left and right but I haven't seen any release dates.

They’re building buzz for a new subscription service to further grow their beloved Services revenue segment. I’m 50/50 on whether their video service will launch this year or next. It takes time to produce these shows and they will need to hit the ground running with a compelling lineup of original content. Whatever they do is going to need to be very compelling in order to convince people to subscribe to yet another service. If they combine original content with access to all tv shows and movies on iTunes, it will be a big hit and serious threat to Hulu and, to a lesser extent, HBO. I think Netflix is pretty safe no matter what because they have a massive content library and strong international focus.

How are these going to be delivered? A monthly subscription through TV app on devices? AppleTV? Per show buy on iTunes?

Subscription service. I expect the per show iTunes content to go away soon. Why would anyone pay $2.99 an episode when pretty much all of those shows can be watched commercial free on Hulu for $12/month? If anything, perhaps the new video service will include all the iTunes shows and movies. If they’re able to do that, Hulu is in big trouble.

How is this guy allowed to still make stuff?

supposedly even his worst movies made a lot of money for the producers and studio... for instance last airbender, which everyone agrees is a POS, cost $150M to make and brought in $350M.

Sixth Sense was a bit ok due to last second surprise! Unbreakable was ok for me, Signs was getting too boring, stopped watching his movies after that....

I guess Apple doesn't want their original content to actually succeed if they keep carrying on in this way.

yes, so that fits in with today's Apple where the warped reality field of sensational expectations for a product far exceeds the real quality and delivery of that product and so they succeed in spite of themselves. This is a good match indeed.
