oh calm down

And of course Apple would say "Post-PC Era" if they can cause the demise of Computers, and push everyone towards tablets, they would be in a position to have a leading marketshare. Instead of their current 7-8%.

I love Apple since 2001 and own a number of its products through the years. Guess what, I still use a PC at work. I have an app that only run on Window XP, hence I have to use it. Most of my days are spent in front of a Dell Omni Plex. Like you, I don't see the PC (desktop) going away anytime soon simply because it works!

I honestly don't think Steve Jobs cares about market share. Look at Dell and HP controlling market share, and see where that leads. Aesthetics, design and functionality are the most important to Steve and Apple.

So true... Whenever discussing the iPad's possibility of being a computer replacement, people talk about this "amazing" stuff they do on their iPad. :p I don't know about anyone else, but my iPad felt like a huge iPhone. I sold it

I think the iPad is an excellent device in many ways. It is currently not a pc replacement, regardless of what the flock says. It's ok for surfing and email, but it really isn't very fast for the internet, it has plenty of limitations, and that is not meant as a knock. The MBA blows it out of the water.

I would like to see some sort of Mini Tower but I know it won't happen... it doesn't seem very Apple like. I am thinking we will see something that is more based on iOS. It may be some sort of more powerful iPad and less powerful MBAir that runs iOS on an A6 chip? Maybe like a 11 and 13" iOS laptop? huge battery life, more powerful than the iPad... who knows. All I know is that if it is game changing like the iPod, iPhone and iPad were than we are in for another treat. Even all you Apple haters have to thank Apple for popularizing and pushing technology for the better.

I don't see MBA with A6 coming - unless new cpu is Intel x86 powered.
I don't see ARM being used as development platform or running professional graphics applications.

There is tons of rumors of Intel and Apple working together, they did so with Thunderbolt - so why not Apple help Intel with power needs and come up with some very fast low power chips.

This states new Mac line - that does not mean iOS line.

What I personally want = is the "iScroll" on cover of Jan 2011 MacLife magazine. I hope it is 5 to 6 years ahead of schedule.

http://www.maclife.com/article/features/future_apple_design_2017_iscroll

That would be unbelievable.

----------

Finally a hybrid iOS/Mac OS X tablet? Only Apple would be able to do that smoothly, IMHO.

Just run iOS in an emulator, Intel cpu's could handle it without a problem.

I believe they will release something complete different. How about a touch interface screen (think 15" glass capactive touchscreen/display/keyboard) + pico projector to provide true touch driven Lion / Mac OSX but also running off the new iCloud platform for storage.

Basically a desktop for the 21st century.

And its completely portable as well - supporting apples vision for mobile devices.

Or maybe I am 5 years too far ahead of my time.

Maybe it has to do with the TV rumors. A TV with a computer that can handle internet, streaming video, DVDs, BluRay, gaming, and photo and video editing.

A kind of 46" screen TViMac.

It is ok to dream, however with the age of the PC over I'd say seeing any new desktops from Apple at this point other then what they are already building is probably a dream. If anything I'd expect Apple to trim the desktop line down.

I do believe it was once explained that post-PC did not mean the death of the personal computer...as it's still a very valuable and useful tool.
Every time I hear people lament the death of the PC since we're in the "post-PC" era, it makes me irate. That's not what he meant by that term. It just means the personal computer no longer has to be the center of your computing experience. Now we have iPhones, iPods, iPads...that can do most of the work we used to do on computers, but not all. The computer will be around longer than most of us here.

It's probably some sort of touchscreen Mac running Lion.

Dunno why so many people voted you down for what is quite a logical presumption.

Lion is built for touch devices. It's blatantly obvious. A touchscreen device running Lion makes perfect sense. Don't know if that's what it is, but it seems quite logical that it would be.

So Jobs can tell people they're scrolling wrong, and they should enable the "natural iScroll"?

Wishful thinking...

A new Mac product, iDoll™, the future of porn, revolutionary way to enrich the porn experience and make it extremely interactive, brought to you by apple. if 90% of web content consists of porn, why not apple venture into a new territory?

Fingers crossed!

I'd love to see the Apple store "build to order" menu where you choose the "endowment" of the "iDoll™ Male" model, or the bust size of the "iDoll™ Female" model.

What about a device that connects via thunderbolt to any Mac and gives it a huge boost in processing power, and graphics?

Something kind of like that laptop Sony made that came with the base-station you plug into for more computing power? I know that device underperformed, but I think Apple could fix that.

It would help explain why there's thunderbolt ports on ALL Macs now.

they will put out the optical drive out for sure^^But what to do with the free space? More battery power? Second Harddisk? Or a SSD like in the Air and a normal harddisk for Data. That will be the future! Trust me!

while a TV seems the obvious answer, my pick is a hub style computer. What I mean by that is something that could integrate all the various devices that people have, make them feel less like discrete devices and more like access points. It would:

  1. Automatically backup your files ala Time Capsule
  2. Serve up media files to all your devices on an as-needed basis. Rather than connecting to your mac to sync your iPhone or iPad. You'd wirelessly interact with the hub, which would store all media files for everyone in the house's devices. Likewise, saved movies would not have to be stored on your computer. Instead, they'd be served to it via wifi and synced if needed on the go.
  3. Serve up media files via internet, allowing you to access all files any time wherever you are and with an iOS device, a mac, or a PC. If you made edits to a document on the go, it would automatically be backed up to the hub and updated in your entire device ecosystem.
  4. Route your internet signal and provide wi-fi
  5. Serve as a Tivo-like device, with cable signals routed through it and then being transmitted to the TV either with a new-age wifi with a higher throughput or by being hardwired to the television
  6. Connect to your sound system, allowing airplay functionality
  7. Offer an interface customized for these purposes.

Much of the above will be covered by iCloud in time. I don't think Apple is interested in going backwards into the "PC as a digital hub" age. It is all about "smaller, faster, lighter" devices that interface with the cloud to create the experience of the device just being an access tool to your data.

Hmmm

Entire product line? Unlikely. Apple has never been one to toss al it's eggs in one basket. I do see an eventual ssd standardization with thunderbolt being the go to for external drive access.

A Mac Cloud ?

I'd go one step further a modular unit based Mac that connects together to make a Mac Cluster but can connect to another Mac via Thunderbolt to make it a seemless part of the cluster. Down the track iOS devices will be able to connect as well an be interfaces to processing happening on the cluster.

The modules would be rackable in a number of different configuration. It's just waiting for a couple of pieces. Long Thunderbolt Cables and a Thunderbolt hub. But Lion now allows multiple users to log in to the same OS instance, plus Lion license allow 2 VM instances. Also the Pro software is getting better at handling off loading of intense tasks to a cluster.

Would also allow Apple to mass produce a single unit in a much higher volume that lets them service a the full range of the market.

A Mac Cloud ?
I think that might reignite a clan war in the old country.

Oh god please no! I just paid 1600 for my macbook pro. I don't want it to be obsolete any time soon.... But If apple knows anything it's how to make a product leaving almost everything else in the dust. Can't wait. These are the people who invented the GUI and who made the iPhone! :)

Mac Cloud

A Mac Cloud ?

"According to anonymous source in Asian supplier company, Apple seems to be preparing project to release new Mac line-up which is absolutely different from current products until end of this year.

Though this source does not told in detail, this new Mac line seems to be clearly different products from current ones, so new product name could be given."

The Mac Cloud could be a new Mac line with a small flash storage and a seamless icloud storage.

Matt I think you are on to something. I do not think it's the tv yet. I think that the new mac pro will be like a super mac mini. Sizeable clusters which will be useful to my high end work and also driving my home entertainment, which could be replacing my apple tv for new tv next year. It's about the big picture and the mac pro's are too close to the old pc idea.
