Why would Apple drop the price of their MacBook after introduction of M1? Did Apple drop the price of iPhone after they switch from Samsung to A4?

Which company in history has ever said, "We are the leader and offer the best performing product on the market. Let's sell it for less!"
I agree with you. If people are ready to buy a MacBook Pro for $5000 Apple has no reason to not sell it with this price.

The annoying thing in all of this is that I'm ready to buy a computer, but I want them all out to decide what. Honestly, the safe bet is to buy the 14 inch MBP, but a larger iMac holds appeal. if they release a more powerful mini and an external display in June though, that could also hold some sway. I don't have to buy right away though, i'm just impatient and exited about the lineup being filled out. Bottom line, companies (even small business owners like myself) buying new products by the end of 2022... we're going to have a great lineup to chose from. Hell, if I didn't know a larger iMac was on the way, I probably would just get both the iMac currently out and a 14 inch. (iMac for office, MacBook pro as my everything machine.).

Totally agree. Jobs would have never allowed an entry level MacBook Pro because he cares about the brand. The goal is to make the best MacBook Pro affordable to everyone. I was expecting a drop in price after the introduction of the M1, since Apple didn't have to pay Intel for its processors. What is observed, is the complete opposite. I guess Apple went with the most profitable strategy.
hahaha whaaat?
that's not true
first: 13" MBP with intel GPU and low end Intel chips was born under the Jobs reign.
second: Apple is not a brand which reduces prices, as this never leads to investment in development.
Know this, even is the M1 Max would cost 1 USD vs the 600USD Intel equivalent, the macs would be same price as now. And Apple is saving cost in SOCs, but also investing in lot of future proof M series development.

Manufacturer cost is not equivalent to development cost.

What Apple did indeed is reducing price, as you get far better hardware with the upgrade
