Why is this thread in Politics, Religion, Social Issues? Did I miss something. Is this an emotive subject?

Political Correctness Gone Wild...

The less exciting and much more tedious spinoff to Girls Gone Wild.

But really why did they need to add those caucasian emoji in the first place? Should have just kept it simple! As it is I hate scrolling through so many emoji just to find what I want, and they're adding more?

Too many people I know use that as a substitute to the missing African-American emoji. Proof we could use a little change.
Who to say it's an African American emoji that's missing.
What about African Africans not all people of color are African Americans. What are Jamaicans? African American Jamaicans or Haitians. This whole PC crap is the ruination of mankind. This hyphenated **** has to stop.

That is a racist comment... we need green faces too, and blue... oh and don't forget purple and red. I mean those are the colors that MacRumor uses. Basically, we should have all the emoticons in all 64 colors from the 64 crayon Crayola box.

On a more serious note, it seems to me that in my circle it is only the younger in the crowd that use pictorial emoticons. At best, my group has mastered the text based smiley face. Although there is a debate between :) and :) among the less techy folks in the group.

:) weirds me out.

The civilized world needs fewer, not more, emoji. Get rid of anything resembling a human. Problem solved. But it seems teen girls are key demographic for Apple so there you go. I'm just happy it's one option Apple lets you turn off. :)

Just add more smileys, I never ever encountered someone using the human looking ones

Jesus, people. Really? How the hell does a thread about the Emoji set get sent down to PRSI? Are we really that damn obnoxious?

As an often accused racist, I find it baffling that anyone would object to more diversity in the racial makeup of Emoji icons.

What does hyphenation have to do with multiple ethnicities having similar skin colors? And what does that have to do with "PC crap"? Usually the person complaining about "PC crap" is the racist/sexist/homophobe in the room. Just sayin'.

Cork asian; an Irish Indian :p

Better not upset the PC crowd - better create smileys for EVERY civilisation, if this is to be taken seriously, or there'll be a riot at PC-correctness towers.

i know you are being somewhat sarcastic but you raise an interesting point. There will always be someone not happy. Not happy cause something isn't included, not happy cause it is. So perhaps the answer is to shift to a plug in supporting system and let folks download what they want rather than it being included by default. Apple could still vet it, require it to go through their system etc.

----------

I never used human looking emojis beyond the standard yellow ones :/

I would actually use something like the Facebook messenger stickers more than emoji.

I want a Steve jobs emoji

I want a Jonny Ive. Created out of laser cut Al-u-mini-um

I wonder how many people here do not have (close) friends or significant others that are other ethnicities. If not, I feel sorry for you (unless you're 50).

Who wouldn't want all ethnicities represented as emoji? It's not only fun but expected. It's no different than avatar creation in video games. You can make any kind of character and it's fun.

This goes for flags too. How can you not have at least G20 in there?

Anyway emoji are originally Japanese so it's not surprising that they're outdated. Look forward to the change even if it isn't a technical one.

All the current characters are Japanese?

It originated in Japan? So all current characters are Japanese? Is that what it means? Because I never noticed that. I will need to up my race consciousness.

This issue makes no difference to me one way or the other. The fact that Tim cares is just more sad evidence he is a typical thoughtless manager following whatever trends he reads about in the newspaper or hears about at the country club. Sad for Apple and technology long term.
