LOL. Thousand of XS users complained about and Apple did nothing, but hey! NOW the XR users are complaining...let's go fix it for them. I can just hope that the XR had connectivity problems as well :D
This entire thing consisted of a few forum posts and some YouTube videos. There was never a “gate” just like the limited people experiencing signal issues.

what about connectivity issues ? zzzzz
I’m no longer having any on my xs max on 12.1b5

Apple is know for touting their cameras. When they add a Vaseline filter to either side, as a standard, and the inability to turn it off, the camera you tout is completely worthless.
Except that there is no such filter.

If there is no filter/software causing the skin smoothing, this is a major problem. Apple will then have to use artificial sharpening. If this is an actual hardware design in the lens, or some sort of coating, this is a problem. And a completely stupid problem, but I haven't seen anybody say this is a hardware issue.

Ok first - I haven't been able to tell any difference with the OLED in my XS or last year's X vs. my 6 Plus (retina). I guess if it's your only screen and you stare at it all day long for videos, etc. then maybe you'd notice a difference? I'm in my mid 30's so not elderly (...) and just can't tell a difference. At all.

As for the beauty filter, well... let's just say Facetune is one of my most used apps.

And yes - what about WiFi and LTE issues? My XS is waaaaay worse than my X. I have them sitting here in the same room and the XS gets half the connection level of the X. $1250+ I paid for this phone. Absolutely ridiculous.

Thank you Apple. And it’s not just the front camera. The software is far too aggressive trying to make everything “evenly lit” It’s bonkers. That’s not how the world is. The flatness of the front camera is so strange.

I know Apple is not great at computational photography but software updates will get them there. Hopefully.

It’s not a filter. It’s a software issue that was explained in great detail by the Halide folks. Natural consequence of the HDR algorithm. The fix is to pick a reference frame that is exposed in such a way that more detail is visible, which is what they have now done in 12.1.

More scandalous than the daft "beauty gate" is how Google is getting such good low light shots with the Pixel 3 using the same sensors and lenses. I hope Apple will consider this an urgent issue and do something similar in a point release. Though I won't hold my breath.

Really? Those super low light shots look horrible to me. The whole point of low light photography is to introduce drama, not to wash out everything and introduce chroma noise.

are they not going to add an option to pick the best frame you want? The whole camera app needs updating.

Using the XR photo for this article seems bogus and I can't wait for people (instagirls) to complain about looking worse now.

I don't wear makeup, don't want to ever. You can't undo auto facetune. Leave auto plastic makeup as an option in a third party app.

It's insulting on every level. Why not alter the voice of the calls while they are at it. Make all guys sound like Barry White.

Dear Youtubers, moaning about any quotidian detail and slapping the word 'gate' over it does not a scandal make.

And I'm saying that as a fairly critical Apple user myself.

Instead of butterflies and flowers and crap that you can paste over your picture they could just add makeup. It could be a whole new class of software: Makeupware.

So Apple is focusing on dealing with selfies and NOT focusing on what actually makes this thing a phone? You know, like fix connection issues???

MR - you ever follow up with Apple regarding connection issues? Or did you and most everyone else let it be forgotten?
