Absurd. Practically every new TV you can buy now is 4K, and includes a 4K capable Netflix client. All new first party Netflix content is 4K, plus other major content, like Breaking Bad.

Modern chipsets are perfectly capable of 4K support. Apple would be insane to not include it.
The chipsets may support it, but the infrastructure bandwidth and human eyesight are lagging badly. This is just more fluff to disguise the fact that in 2015 Apple has nothing new to offer, nothing.

I want the 21.5 4k with an internal "BlueRay" DVD---Not gonna happen, I know--

Apple continue to tweak the iMac.

The 5k 27" iMac is quintessentially the ultimate AIO and if I had the budget would most definitely be the machine I would go for.

My current machine is the 2011 Sandy Bridge 21.5" iMac which is more than ample and stands up favourably to more recent 21.5" iMac models with USB 2.0 being perhaps the only downside.

Looking in to a fix for that with the OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock

Anyone else hoping for a fresh new form factor? I do, and I feel guilty about it. Also is it specifically an American societal phenomenon to feel guilty about vanity?

I'm definitely holding out for the next redesign before upgrading and I don't feel guilty about it at all. But I am prepared to face the possibility that this next update will not be the new redesign.

First of all, in 2015, after 8 years, those monstrous sized bezels absolutely need to go. Second, I'd like to see Apple bring space gray and gold options to the iMac. And lastly, given the recent rumor of the newly redesigned keyboard and Force Touch Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse releasing in 2016, that would mark the perfect time to update the design on the iMac since Apple always releases newly redesigned input devices along with newly redesigned iMacs.

Bring 24-inch Apple Thunderbolt Display with Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 type-C hub, and SDXC reader (UHS-II Maximum speed - 300 Mbps).

The low-cost 1080p option is the ATV 3, which is why rumors point to them still selling it after the release of this new ATV.

As for the market, there's no market for ATV apps yet because there's no ATV App Store. Why not start having developers create 4K apps from the start rather than have them create 1080p versions that need to be upgraded within a year once 4K picks up even more steam?

When the Retina display was initially released, there wasn't a large amount of Retina-ready apps available, yet Apple made the forward-thinking decision to push the new display out and watch the market follow.
The rumored base model ATV is 8GB. You expect to store the assets for a 4K app on that tiny thing? 16GB is barely enough to even install apps on my iPad; I regret not buying a bigger one now.

My wish list for the new iMacs:

-Removable SSD/HDD docks (like the Ram compartments)
-Video IN for hooking up peripherals like BluRay player or PS4
-Better DAC module, digital bypass
-Better internal speakers, more bass, utilize that massive space at
the rear
-SD card slot on the side instead of the "hard-to-reach" rear
-32" screen size, that will be the sweet spot for many (my current 40" is
way too large for desktop viewing)
-I love the contrasty, non-glare screen on my iPhone 6, can Apple discard
the super-glossy display and use more matte-like material?
-I want to see inky black fonts
-The casing doesn't have to be super thin, so that it can accommodate more features
like SSD compartment access, better cooling system, better internal speakers, more
ergonomic slot access
-Maybe Apple should split the iMac line: thin design for light, casual user, and thicker
design for heavy duty users like content creator, pro photographers, and gamers.
-Since we are talking about 4K, iTunes should start offering high bit-rate 4K titles,
streaming or downloadable to local storage. And since we are on the issue of hi-bit
media, they should also offer their music titles in uncompressed DSD formats

Totally agree with all your points. But really, most of them are never going to happen. Apple is way too happy it's hard to replace SSDs/Drives, so they can charge a huge premium for them.

And the ports at the rear, yeah that totally bothers me with my Mac Mini as well. Even the on/off button is on the back, even after 4 years I'm still struggling to find it every day. I really don't get what's wrong with a power button on the front. If they didn't like the aesthetic, why not make a touch-sensitive apple logo?

Same with the super glary screen, yeah it looks great in the shop and it's horrible to do actual work on. I don't think I will ever 'get' Apple's choices there.

Have you ever watched Netflix 4K content? I ask because I have not. But I have watched plenty of NetFlix's HD content. And it is utter garbage compared to a Blu-Ray disc. It may technically be 1080p, just like I'm sure their 4K content is technically 4K. But that doesn't mean the bitrate is any good. And for the record, Prime's HD is also inferior to Blu-Ray, as is everything "HD" I've ever downloaded from iTunes.

I agree with the person you replied to. There is NO 4K content right now. Everything is moving to streaming or digital download, and these are all still inferior to 1080p Blu-Ray. 4K is a meaningless feature of a television until we have streaming that exceeds the quality of 1080p Blu-Ray.

4K for a computer monitor, unrelated to media consumption, is very nice, though. Pixels actually matter when you need the extra space for working or the extra crispness when editing images, etc. I'd run a triple 5K monitor setup if I could afford it, but my television still has literally zero reason to be better than 1080p at this time.

The bezels are part of the hardware chassis. They are there for a reason.

Man, I've wanted this since the first day Blu-Ray was invented. I have an external Blu-Ray drive, but it's the lack of software that's the killer. There is really only one app (MacBlurayPlayer.com‎), and while it's pretty clever in how it manages to play Blu-Ray in OSX, it's overall fairly crappy. Too many bugs. New discs sometimes won't play at all (I guess they have to do some special thing per disc on their server to enable them). I'd gladly pay for a proper Blu-Ray playing application from Apple. I know it's a "bag of hurt" but why can't they just pass on that cost to those of us willing? It's not even Apple's fault, really. The people in charge of Blu-Ray really ruined the whole format with all the BS anti-piracy and licensing stuff. Great. It's super secure! So much so that it's suicide.

Yes, that is why Apple would also have to shrink the chassis...

They did it with the retina MacBook Pro and with the new MacBook (compared to the Air). What's the difference?

Broadwell? Surely it's supposed to be Skylake, why bother with the previous gen?

I seriously doubt we'll see discrete GPUs that powerful in the 21-inch model, those are probably for the 27-inch model (380M for the budget model, 395X for the top-end one).

Because Skylake isn't ready - i'm not sure why people seem to assume Apple will be implementing it 3 months before its actually available, rather than the more realistic 3 months AFTER its available. You'll be looking at Skylake iMacs this time NEXT year and Skylake Macbook Pros mid 2016.

Mark my words... Apple will elliminate those gawd awful bezels in their next form factor. Maybe they're part of the chassis now but they will figure out how to do away with them. Why? Because they are so 2000.
Videos would look worse without bezels. Have you ever built a home theater? There is a reason that you surround the screen with a dark/black, non-reflection surface. It aids the contrast and enhances the picture. You actually want that dark zone around the image.

I have a super thin bezel LG TV from 2012 that is hardly even noticeable from our couch. It's mere millimeters thin and I have not seen any evidence of worsened video due to it. Compared to the distance that I sit from my iMac, I would still see the bezels clearly even if they were half the size they were today.

The thought of enhancing video quality by utilizing unnecessarily massive thick black bezels is a joke. By that logic, we should be seeing 65" 4K sets with 4 inch black bezels in the market today.

Nah. Sky lake iMacs in spring of 2016...not a year from now.

I predict non retina 27 is dropped next refresh. M380 for new $1799 27, M390 for $1999, M395 for $2299, and M395X BTO. 21.5 iMac gets Iris Pro and M370X, since the high end 21.5 always got the GPU from the 15" MacBook Pro.
