Under bean counter Tim apple, I don’t see it as improbable, especially there’s a couple dozen forum members on these threads vowing to get one no matter the cost. YouTubers are going to get one too, so apple really can just charge whatever they want.

Uh, I mean, yes, gradual price increases of $100 at a time between major upgrades (ie. ipad air 4 & ipad mini 6), sure.

Apple loves their margins and has overpriced storage/RAM upgrades blah blah blah, we know that, but a $1000 all at once on the base model? That is WHACK. Not just whack but hilariously stupid.

Also, youtubers get review units that they have to send back unless they decide to pay for it themselves. They don’t literally get to keep everything for free lmao (though the big ones can certainly afford all the latest and greatest.)

There is absolutely no reason why a product as big as a MacBook needs to have an intrusive notch in its screen to house a camera when the bezels can be big enough to house them without being massive. This is ridiculous if true.

Someone just reminds me iPhone XS Max days apple also used special marketing wallpaper to hide the notch. Maybe iPhone X as well. Ugh…

Also, if mouse can’t reach the new “menu bar” around the notch, what would that area be for? Displaying information that requires no interaction? What? Or moving some of those menu bar icons to there? But then how would user access menus? There’s more and more questions about this notch that I’m fairly confident apple either don’t want to answer or can’t answer.

Well, ok. So what we get so far based on rumours? 120Hz display. MiniLED. Notch. Better camera, some “legacy” ports, better internals, better spec. Hmm. I feel apple certainly can charge $1000 extra premium for the new base model. Not to say they will do. Probably not, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they do.

As for reviewers, some do pay those machines themselves and sell those they don’t want later on elsewhere. It’s not particularly difficult, just some business-as-usual hassle.

Yeah, the ipad pro got 120hz in, what, 2017? The 12.9” got miniLED and the goddamn M1 chip this year and how much was it increased again? Oh right, just a $100.

People will grumble over $100 price increases here, so if you think they can do $1000 on the base model all willy nilly, you’re absolutely bonkers. Frankly, a $100 hike would be perfectly reasonable and expected for the M1X MBPs. $200 is what would be unsurprising (aiming for a flat $2000), but pushing it a little. $300+ though…? Right out.

I’ve even heard they may be reducing the price of the 16” because both the 14” and 16” will both have access to the same configurations unlike before where the 16” had better internals. Not sure if that will be true, but we’ll see in 7 hours!

The new MBP is actually not going to be called MBP. You heard it here first folks.

The whole thickness thing makes no sense. The freaking iMac is so thin it could nearly be a laptop! No way the MacBook is thickER. Right??
I do not see the lower part of the 16" becoming any thicker as it already houses the maximum allowed battery size and can thermally handle 60W Intel CPU.

The lid is another matter. a 1080p camera may require a thicker lid. Also occasional problems with cracked screens due to pressure on the lid may indicate they need a thicker and stronger lid.

And mini LED is a bit thicker anyway.

I must confess that I do not understand people who register and spend time on this forum and then ONLY complain about Apple products. Assuming they really own an Apple product (sometimes I doubt it) would they not be happier with another product.

Grab your M1 macbook pros and airs now folks as those are going to sell out very quickly once the Notchbook’s are announced.

Exactly. It all comes down to this for me too. If the new MBPs feature mini-LED displays as expected, then the thickness of the display and lid would be increased, as the M1 iPad Pro’s display is. I know the M1 iPad Pro is thicker than the lid of all Macs, but Apple should not have to resort to a notch on a MBP.

Bezels used to be inches thick. Who cares if the bezels are two or three millimeters thicker if a notch can be avoided?

If the notch happens, IMHO it will be an ugly short-lived hack that will age this model of Macs poorly.

-But it does blend in with time.
It never did for me. It got more annoying and more annoying over time until I finally had to buy something else for my main phone.

-And it does give apple a "branding" aesthetic (haters are definitely gonna hate that one).
Irrelevant to me, but I don't hate that statement itself. The Apple on the lid or back is enough for me, and since it can't be copied, a better indicator.

-B U T most importantly it means a slightly bigger screen than IF INSTEAD you had a perfectly square bezel.
That can't be used by user stuff apparently. A laptop screen is already big enough for being a laptop. If one needs bigger, an external screen can be used. (I do)

Have developers even figured out how to write apps that actually take advantage of 32 cores?
Sure, I've seen apps that use even more than that on massively parallel machines, but that isn't what a 32-core laptop or desktop is going to do -- it's going to run many more apps at the same time with no slowdowns.

My Windows desktop has 10 cores +hyperthreading, and it's nice to run a machine with no slowdowns,, no matter how much I have open. And it's just a mid level, pretty cheap, machine in Windows performance circles...

I'm impressed that Mac Rumors has dug up absolutely every MBP notch rumor like this one from August.

Hurry up Monday, we need all these rumors to be put aside with the truth!
They'll never be put aside, once today's event passes they'll be dug up for the next Mac event

This is the whole point.
Oh, honey. They don’t need to raise the base model by $1000 for no reason. That foolishness would turn away even the sheepiest of apple sheep (I use that term in jest.)

They’ll get a plenty of $$$$$ based off RAM/GPU/SSD upgrades and applecare+ 😂.
