I dont know, I feel like I am wasting my time even saying this, but.

I understand the dislike for the aesthetics of the notch. I agree it does look a little out of place.
-But it does blend in with time.
-And it does give apple a "branding" aesthetic (haters are definitely gonna hate that one).
-B U T most importantly it means a slightly bigger screen than IF INSTEAD you had a perfectly square bezel.

I swear to god for years you giant bezel haters were saying "look at all this wasted space" and Apple was like "yeah but where do we put the camera and stuff then, we aint putting it BEHIND the screen, not yet anyways". So then you all humphed and said "I hate these stupid giant bezels, look at all this wasted space".

Here we are years later Apple has LISTENED, and COMPRIMISED, they are giving you best of both worlds. You get the bigger screen where it is possible, and then a notch where it is not. It seems like the perfect too good to be true win-win, that honestly probably took some advanced manufacturing to make work. But nope, not happy. Just cause. "It doesnt bend the law of phyiscs DATS hwhy".

I guess this is just the way the world is.

I love this site. Last minute flood of notch rumors and states in this article that they may have changed their mind and didn’t include it. Win win.

No it isn't. The notch isn't being obscured physically in the image, but has a wallpaper the same colour. Apple's been doing it for years on other devices.

if it’s obscured in marketing, but not obscured when actually using it, then that’s false advertising
Nobody is saying you cant slap THE EXACT SAME WALLPAPER from the marketing onto your new device. It would have the same effect of hiding the notch. The lawyers would laugh so god damned hard at you if you tried to claim false advertising (and it if made it to court by some miracle I think the judge would get a pretty good giggle out of it too).

Now IF Apple purposely PREVENTED you from using a wallpaper that hides the notch, BUT AT THE SAME TIME advertised the product with the notch hidden. Then maybe you would have a case. Lol. I still dont think you would though.

Not bothered either way, but I just don't understand the need for a notch. The notch on the iPhone is about 5mm tall, which on a MacBook would still be a very thin bezel. This would only make sense to notch that 5mm if apple made truly edge to edge screen - which I don't see them doing. There will be a bezel of some description, so just make it thick enough to cater for the cameras and sensors.

I don’t understand the notch. Apple pulled off a beautiful design with the iPad Pro screen and there is no notch. It’s built into the bezel which is quite small. Why not just keep that design language and extend the sides and bottom to go more bezel less and just leave the top bezel to feature the hardware underneath.
Well, I can understand it if done right. Your desktop should be unaffected, and you would have a bunch of bonus pixels that can be used for system indicators like: 5G status, WIFI strength and name, date/time, battery status, etc. This would free up space on top, and would not require any software to be adapted by developers. Instant win?

I will reserve judgment till I see it. Introducing SD when CFE is current and SDE is on its way is daft, though the HDMI port is a-ok as long as it wont come as the cost of the having four or more TB3 ports. If they drop a TB3 port for HDMI then I am left with having to disconnect one of my external drives when I am emptying two CFE cards. And choosing between 10 Gbps ethernet and a second external screen.

As for the notch on the display, I fully suspect most apps will just work but a bunch of full screen apps like games wont know that the notch isn't usable space and that area is often where games will put a menu or resource counter.

  • "Don't expect too much on narrow borders. It is indeed narrow, but it is not much narrow."
  • Bezel width remains at the current size, with the bezels at the three sides basically the same width with the bottom bezel thicker.

This is confusing. Remains at current size yet it is narrower but by not much?

However, if the bezels are indeed the same size, it will be a disappointing. It would feel tired looking IMO.

No FaceID, yet they’re including a notch? I find that hard to believe, unless they’re drastically slimming down the bezels.

I certainly hope after all these years we aren't going to go from 8TB laptop to only 4TB. 32GB Ram instead of 64gb may be fine since with the M1 macs, the less ram may be far faster than the intel 64gb, but storage space is storage space so there certainly would be no such justification for those of us who have had 8tb for years in MBPs.
