You can hurry up and resale your M4 MBP before the M5 becomes widely popular… but here’s the thing: in one more year, you’ll be angry to have spent extra money going for the M5 MBP, because the new one is going to be much better… the M6 is expected to be a much higher performance and efficiency jump thanks to the N2 manufacturing process…

You want a refund/compensation on a product you've used for over a year? Rofl. Yeah good luck with that one. I have your exact same MBP - same ram, same storage yet I certainly don't feel "ripped off". Why? Because I've gotten a full year's worth of use and then some out of it.

This isn't new johnny-on-the-spot type information. Newer tech comes along all the time and the rule of thumb is generally buy for your current needs, future proof it should you want and don't look back because at that rate you'll NEVER buy anything.

Im not looking for a refund but a gift card of a partial amount would be very welcome. I feel bad for the people who bought M4 with the 1TB storage upgrade and now you can get that upgrade included in the M5.

I am one of the many who bought the M4 MBP with 24GB and 512GB the week it came out. And now a year later I feel ripped off. Because Apple is selling the exact same model but it now has the M5 and a 1 TB SSD. Going from a 512GB to a 1TB SSD is something that they usually sell as an upgrade for $500.

On top of that, with this new release it greatly diminishes the resale value on my M4 MBP. Probably dropped by $500 within the last 24 hours. Has anyone tried getting a credit or gift card reimbursement from Apple?
So bro but i think you are just suffering from FOMO (Fear of missing out) also no if you buy a year later, you won’t get a refund though you could trade it in. And get some of your money back.

If you are mad at apple for their pricing scheme, simply don’t buy their products but instead buy their stock. With the profits buy a nice windows PC.

Reaching out to Toyota right now asking for a refund because I bought a 2012 Corolla and they have come out with a new Corolla every subsequent year.

I’m confused- M5 base model is at 512 Gb and mid range is 1tb … also are you serious about getting a refund …. Do you know how technology works??? Also the computer that just came out is 3 years out of the scope of the engineering team. They are always 2 to 3 versions ahead of the current model shipping. m6 and all m5 versions are being finalized now so they can get approval and send off to manufacturers - get over it and love the machine you have !! I have an m1 Mac mini that in my base computer and it’s still killing it for what I do. No reason to upgrade yet.
- for me ( some like to upgrade a lot and fine as well ) So um just basically want to say suck it up buttercup.

Why hasn't somebody said this? The M4 Pro + 24 GB RAM is in a different league compared to the M5 + 16 GB RAM. The M5 is a replacement for the M4, not for the M4 Pro. Both are offered at the exact same price today compared to a year ago (with the M4 having been upgraded to the M5).

Besides, this is tech. Tech gets ousted in 3 months. One year is the lifespan of a flagship.

lol

Yeah that. I have an M4 Pro 14 core / 24GB / 1TB. I wouldn't even be tempted by the M5.

Comparing today's computers with the Performa 550 that I bought in 1993 that had 5MBs of RAM , a 33MHz processor and a 160MB Hard drive and cost $2000, I feel ripped off.
Kudos for the brilliant humor.

Reminds me of the handsome price I paid years ago for a PowerBook 140 :)

The original poster seems to have slipped away. Anyway… If you want a(n) 😡 story — though more of a :( disappointment actually...

The latest Mac Studio launched about four months after the newest Mac mini. By the way, the rumor was the Mac Studio update/upgrade could/would come at WWDC (i.e., July) or later, not March.

In other words...

Mac Studio:
  • Apple M4 Max chip with 14‑core CPU, 32‑core GPU, 16‑core Neural Engine
  • 36GB unified memory
  • 2TB SSD storage
  • Four Thunderbolt 5 ports, two USB-C ports, two USB‑A ports, HDMI port, 10Gb Ethernet port, headphone jack, SDXC card slot
$2,599

My $2,599 Mac mini config:
  • Apple M4 Pro chip with 14‑core CPU, 20‑core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine
  • 48GB unified memory
  • 2TB SSD storage
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI port, two USB‑C ports, headphone jack

And a company such as It’s Worth More currently offering half (i.e., $1,295).
But, as others have said, this is the nature of tech/progress.

This must be a joke, but I'm not sure. They have M4 Mac Mini with 256TB of storage and 16TB of ram.
Now THAT must be an expensive computer!

I'm with you when it comes to making Apple pay for their nonsense, but this scenario doesn't qualify for anything. You just gotta suck it up.

Except they don't.

The 1 TB only comes "standard" with the M4 Pro - high configuration or the M4 Max. The M5 only comes with 512 GB SSD standard.

And the same configuration you have is still the same price you paid.

Paying to upgrade the M5 to 1 TB costs the same as the M4 + 1 TB upgrade cost three weeks ago, and one year ago.

For the majority of Mac customers, at this point, we're upgrading our computers so we can have an even faster version of "instantaneous."

Here you go. The white-background screenshot is Apple webpage from when you bought your laptop, I have your configuration circled.

The black-background is the Apple webpage today. I have the configuration of the price you paid circled. You can see they're the same. The prices for each "step" didn't change.

"GMC needs to reimburse me! I bought a new 2025 Sierra truck a week after launch last year.. and now they just released a new 2026 model! This caused my resale value to go down. Has anyone reached out to GMC for a reimbursement?"

Hilarious, LOL!

Sounds like a former disgruntled Costco customer who couldn't understand why they couldn't return their sofa after 3 years!

I feel for you because ram and storage upgrade are complete rip offs by Apple. However every year there will be better specs.
Now the new model is not a "pro" M chip and 1tb is a storage upgrade. The entry version is 16gb 512gb.

What are you talking about? Your own profile says your have an M4 Pro, not a standard M4. The new chip replaced the base standard M4. Your exact configuration is still for sale for the exact same price you paid for it.

This thread post is pure nonsense.
