So we have a rumor about a rumor with no actual confirmation from anyone. And now we have 55 comments assuming the rumor, and the rumor about the rumor, were true to begin with. How does that work? This is a totally invented conversation about something that was never announced but accepted as the truth. Does anyone see the mind blowing irrationality of this line of thought?

Evidentially you missed the part where you are posting on MacRUMORS and nobody has said anything about the supposed event. Rather people are saying that if in fact the rumors were true of an event they did right in canceling.

Can't they do the March event without an audience and just have it live streamed? Why do they need an audience?
These events are always followed by face to face meetings with all the journalists.

You could do that by shipping out prototypes and having phone calls, but it's easier and works better in person. Plus some of the major announcements are delayed by all the factory closures, so it makes sense to just delay it a bit.

It's just a variation of the flu. And it only kills weak gramps and grams, like that grandma in Dante's Peak.

did you actually write "only" ?

anyway, a streamed Keynote or even a pre-recorded Keynote, without audience would be actually great.
i think they should get into practice of doing that.
better than just a written Press Announcement.
really a much better way to do major Press Announcements i think.
apple would still get 100% of viewership as it normally does with this pre-recorded or streamed audience-free Keynote.
people would still take off from work or get up at 2:00 am in order to see it wherever they are in the world.

Someone else nailed it, Apple could easily Announce these products through Social media/Website ads and release them as follows. Everyone here understands the severity of the situation and Apple is doing what is completely necessary For the safety for anyone who Would have been attending the alleged event.

really do wonder if any event was planned in the first place or if it was always planned as a website refresh

Let's hope that the drop in manufacturing, thus leading to drops in sales, leading to closed public events will give back to potential customers in slightly cheaper prices. Let's hope.

This could be a good segue-way into expanding Apple Card and AppleCash outside of the USA to help for consumer purchase.

Health is wealth.

maybe we'll see the release of the 2020 Apple MacBook Pro 14" next week Tuesday on the website.

Just gonna say Nintendo used to do live and then decided to Nintendo Directs which in many ways made the presentations better and more focused.

They should try a reveal similar to a Nintendo Direct. These are now common by Nintendo where it’s a scripted reveal with a nice production quality and good, tight editing. Much more interesting for the at-home audience than someone standing on a stage talking.

Honestly Apple could hugely benefit from these, especially lately where presentations have started to get meandering and repetitive.

I don't think there will be a WWDC. I also don't think they will ship anything this year until at least September. Cook might talk up a recovery but news from within China's manufacturing tells a different story. Next iPhone will also be later than planned, I believe. Phones are assembled in China but the components and tech come from many different places.

Italy cases now up to over 630. That's over 200 deaths in one day. A country the size of California. Think on that, America.

Doesn’t help Italy’s population density is double that of California. 509pp/mile versus 255pp/mile.
Their customs of greeting are a little “friendlier”, also.

Not downplaying the seriousness, but I would feel much more likely to avoid Covid-19 living in California.

I missed the holiday 6% cash back on Apple Card purchases from Apple
If they rolled that out again I'm all in on a purchase

Could be a good time for Apple to do things differently. Every big tech company has copied the stage event reveal. Big stage, huge screens, fancy demos, journalist crowd. It's been rinsed.

Maybe a youtube event with tech bloggers and celebs in a more casual setting streamed to millions? How about the "Lew Later" studio?

I think Apple would rather host it via Akamai on their own site using Quicktime or MP4 streaming then give Google more publicity.

(yes they have a youtube channel).

PS: I'd love for Apple to host all previous WWDC's through their Apple Event app on AppleTV

Seriously I think I'm developing a twitch from cringing every time someone says this is "just a flu." The lack of knowledge, the ignorance, sometimes it blows your mind.

It’s not ignorance. It’s affirmative malice. They all know better, but for whatever reason they want the disease to spread.

I don't understand all these references everywhere to things getting "postponed." It's called "canceled." This virus outbreak is not going to get better for a long time. Things will only be getting worse for the forseeable future. My only question is: if we are canceling everything now, when barely anyone has this virus in the US, that only means everything will be canceled until it gets back to nobody at all having the virus... which will be what? Years? So - are we just canceling society at large for the foreseeable future?

“Things will only be getting worse for the forseeable future.”

That depends on how effectively countries implement preventive measures. China is just now starting to get things under control.
