Half the customers in Apple stores are "new to mac" customers. Is this a new figure?
Apple just reported one of the best quarters in its history, with a spectacular performance by the iPhone we sold more phones than RIM, said CEO Steve Jobs.
It's not like that RIM and Apple are direct competitors. They act in completely different markets. RIM primarily sells to businesses while the iPhone is directed to home users. All these "let's compare smartphone market numbers" stuff from Apple is just marketing. They better need to compare to Nokia and others.
Just to be clear, the $1.65 estimate is for the Oct.-Dec. quarter, not the July-Sept quarter which was in the $1.11 range.
Apple beat the consensus in earnings per share, but missed in total revenue.

Yeah I think I caught the gist of thatSteve Jobs: Netbook market, wait and see.
- Jobs: New MacBook and MacBook Pro. Notebooks comprise 2/3 of the Macs they sell.
Well RIM is the only other phone maker that specializes in smartphones, so it IS an apt comparison.
The vast majority of what Nokia, Samsung, Moto, etc. sell are commodity flip phone types that you get for free with any contract.
