What is the file name of the ipsw, sounds like you have one of the betas and I'm guessing you don't have a dev account?

I am pretty certain its the right one, filename is iPad2,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw. Even if it was the wrong file why would it stop me doing a factory settings restore?

Take a look at this: http://leimobile.com/this-device-isnt-eligible-for-the-requested-build/

While your device has never been jailbroken it could still be the case that your host file (for whatever reason) blocks connection to the Apple servers needed for the activation.

Yeah could be right and I am going to give that a go sometime today but why would that stop me restoring 4.3.5, Is it something to do with the iTunes Beta?

Is anyone else experiencing problems with iCloud syncing? My calendars have been syncing fine yesterday but it doesn't work anymore. Also, when I try to check for new iPhone software on the phone itself, an error message appears?

There are bound to be issues up until it goes public. But yes, I am having the same issue with the software update server. I'm guessing it's because it's not turned on properly yet.

Cheers, I thought that must be the reason.

Yep that was the case. Not sure why my iPad2 which I have only had for a couple of weeks and have never attempted to jailbreak should have this problem but hey ho seems to be working now as my iPad is syncing my apps, happy days :)

Yeah that is the correct file.

Got personal hotspot working in ios 5 gm!

Thanx a lot for this tip, I'm using an iPhone 4 GSM with Telcel (Mexico) and when I upgraded to GM personal hotspot didn't appear at all, but with this easy steps I got it back!

I ran into the same issue back in beta 7. No matter what I did or tried, tethering was missing from my iPhone. Now with the GM release I got it back.

Try updating your APN settings and resetting your network settings. (Settings>General>Reset>Reset network settings). That might help.

text message question

if i synch & backup before updating to iOS 5 will i be able to keep my text messages? i know you have to option + restore to choose the iOS file. thx

If you are asking if text messages are included in the backup then the answer is yes. Some on this thread have had difficulties doing the restore but from my experience it always successfully restores in the end - you may just have to try a couple of times if it doesn't work at first.

i can say things didn't go well for me. made a backup with itunes 10.4.1 and 4.2.10 just prior to installing iTunes 10.5 beta 9 and ios 5. well, i restored to ios 5 and everything went well until i tried to restore from backup.

initially i kept getting a message that said my backup is corrupt or not compatible with the iphone. i then tried restoring from an older iphone backup located from time machine to see if that worked. it didn't.

eventually i just brought my backup to my friends computer which had 10.4.1. i put the phone in dfu and restored down to 4.2.10 which worked fine. when i tried restoring from the backup at this point the iphone would just disconnect for no reason in the middle of the upgrade. bummer.

thankfully i didn't lose too much because it's all on my computer...i did, however, lose my app organization and settings, text messages etc.

i won't be trying to upgrade early in the future, that's for sure. i'm also not sure if i really trust iphone backups anymore. now that i have everything back to normal i've made a fresh backup. let's hope i can rely on it for future updates/restores.

I have a question.

I've been using iOS5 beta (dev registered iPhone 4). I haven't installed the GM version.

I want to sell the phone next week in preparation for my 4S arriving.

When the official version comes out on Wednesday will iTunes just register the new version and let me instal over the last beta version?

If the GM has been installed come Wednesday do we have to do anything like update again or is it OK to contine using the GM, thanks?

SMS Mailbox full?

I've installed iOS 5 GM on my phone and everything was going perfect until I tried to text. I get an error saying my SMS mailbox is full. It will let me send texts but not receive them. I've tried deleting entire SMS conversations to make more room but I'm still getting the message. The only way I can receive texts is to turn my phone off for a few minutes and then turn it back on, I get all the texts from the last restart but then can't receive any more. I tried restoring my phone as a new phone instead of from a back-up and it worked perfectly but I really need the back up because I need all my contacts, etc. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know what's wrong? Is there a way to only use parts of a back-up? Like can I restore from a backup only using the back-up of my contacts and app settings?

Thanks

is it possible now to create a @me.com email address and convert my previous @gmail.com over to it so my iTunes store money credit is on that account?

Not at the moment. Not with a @me account

Apple let you associate your e-mail address to a single apple ID. The apple ID has to be an e-mail address these days, though old non-email addresses still work. The e-mail addresses can be the same, or different

It also lets you change the association - so if you change your e-mail address you can associate it with your apple id and keep your existing purchases. So far so good.

The snag is that when you create a @me account, it automatically creates an apple id with the same name. So when you try to associate your existing apple id with the @me account instead of the previous gmail account it fails, saying the @me account is already associated with a different apple id.

Apple are apparently working on allowing you to merge 2 apple IDs. In this case you'd merge your old gmail apple id (the one that has your purchases) with the new @me apple ID and you'd be good to go. But its not here yet.

hopefully we will be able to merge IDs tomorrow
