I was disappointed

Even though I am very disappointed in what was mentioned & that the iPhone still does not have a large enough screen, but since Apple makes its money from small & pretty things will probably go very well for them. I still have about 8 months left on my larger screened 4g WiMax smartphone. Apple did not wow me enough to pay for an early out just to get a smaller screen. In fact the screen size has more to do with getting 2 Android smartphones than most other things. I do not expect Apple to ever make an iPhone with a larger screen. This means I won't be in the market for one. But there are several million people that have better eye sight than I do.

To me this announcement is just like most other Apple announcements. At the time they are boring & to many they stay boring. But with the figures that Apple are doing in sales it seems that most people do not care if the Apple things are boring. So the end probably is not near. But with 16 months since the last iPhone launch most would have expected that Apple's stock price would have gone up & not down.

For those bitching about Tim Cook...its Steves fault....he put him in charge.

For those bitching about the fact that its 'just an iPhone 4s' its shockingly again Steves fault for allowing a 2-year cycle with the 3Gs. Get it into your heads, Apple do not release a new iPhone every year, they do Year 1 Major, Year 2 Minor, Year 3 Major, Year 4 Minor, etc.

Down vote me if it makes you feel better, but I'm pretty confident that Apple have a much better idea about what they are doing than a bunch of customers who just want a new look toy.

This was Tim Cooks chance to WOW those who had doubts about him and to impress those who faithfully waited for a new iPhone.. instead.. an unimpressive new ceo presented an equally disappointing phone.. This blows..

Sadly, I think Steve jobs would have introduced the same phone...

I actually thought Tim did a great job up there. Seemed super cool and charismatic for being so nervous. Look at Steve's first public appearances; he wasn't perfect. Give Tim some time and he'll do great up there.

Apple stuck to what they have always done with hardware. 2 cycles with the same hardware style. Then intro a new one.

now the ip4 is a dog? just cause they didn't introduce the iPhone 5 now?

Unfortunately for Apple, Steve Jobs wasn't 50 his first time up there. :p We will never have Steve back, but Tim did great today! I personally think this is not the most boring Apple keynote I've seen. I think it was just disappointing because of the iPhone 5 rumors that never came true.

He needs to speak faster and throw more energy into it.

I actually went for a cheap 4 off ebay last week, knowing whatever came out would be expensive as an unlocked option. The rumours were looking at a 4s and the ended up being true, but i cant help feeling that apple had possibly lost some of its confidence. They released a phone that looks like the last one, and the media event was held at the campus to a safe audience and they didn't even stream it. It all feels like a company going a very safe route, so safe it looks a bit less confident it what its doing.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the SJ era tapering off?

Edit: If you think about it since the iphone came out we've only ever had 2 different looks. The original went though to the 3GS, the 4 will now be the 4s. Its actually very clever, apple will release a S model every 2 years inbetween the major case changes. That way they get the people on 2 year contracts that don't fall on the major update.

I like Tim Cook, he's someone I enjoy listening to, but watching a product launch without Steve will, after some 14 years, take a little time.

Tim Cook was given nothing to work with. To me this is why Steve Jobs retired. He didn't want to go out with such a boring announcement. Because Tim Cook it not the great used car salesman that Steve Jobs is he was not the person that should be saddled with giving such boring announcements.

While what Apple announced was on the whole very good, the keynote was boring to watch, (especially after they repeated half of their WWDC Keynote) more boring than the infamous GarageBand Keynote.

On the flip side, their message as always is very clear, which is more important to a media circus than the random individual sitting at his PC.

Obvious troll is obvious.

Why is somebody a troll if they do not agree with you?

One thing that you must remember is that Steve Jobs was a very good used car salesman. Like that salesman he has the ability to make you excited about buying a clunker. The problems about these rumor sites is that they any times become wish sites. Thus when Apple comes out with what is real many people are disappointed. So those that are the most disappointed that their wishes were not answered will say things like this. I even say some very hard things about Apple & I've purchased only Macs since 1984. I aso have several iToys but no iPhone. The no iPhone will probably last at least 1 more time. Part of that is disappointment & part of it is because I have 8 months or so left on my contract.

Some things have come to an end at Apple. Wether you like it or not that is the truth & a fact. It always happens even to your favorite computer, i mean iToy or iDevice company.

The Microsoft Story all over

What goes up must come down. Microsoft went from being the most celebrated company in the World to the most hated, and now it is Apple's turn. Why ? Well, you just can't continue to re-invent the wheel over and over again, at some point the innovation cycle stagnates, you disappoint your fans, and off you go into the death spiral.

10 years from now, Apple will still be there, suing the arse off anyone with a bright idea, and desperately buying mediocre solutions to regain lost ground. Like Microsoft buying Skype. And someone else will be ahead of the curve, own 10% of the market and have a new Jobs / Ive / Cook combination that excites the users of that future day.

Compaq was great in its day, but got sold off to HP. Dell is down the pan. Palm is gone. HP has given up. **** happens, but Apple still makes great products, far better than anyone else, so I will stick with them until something even better comes along...

Somehow I think it's more likely the iPhone 4S will once again break sales records than be the first product of Apple's death spiral.

except for Scott.. it felt they were just reading out slides.. its good though that Tim didn't try to be Steve.. Phil looked more nervous.. the whole thing kind of felt just half hearted :(

The two alternatives are not mutually exclusive, you realize.

Record-breaking sales of people upgrading from Iphone 1G/2G/3G/4G while continuing to hemorrhage sales of new customers to Android is the mark of a death spiral.

The people happiest with this Iphone 4GS announcement are at Samsung, LG, HTC, Nokia and Motorola.

The whole Iphone 4GS thing *is* "half-hearted". 18 months for what?

First impressions (still watching)

1. Tim said "Macintosh". Haven't heard Apple use that term in a long time. They always say "Mac".

2. Tim said "MP3 Market". Most downloaded songs are not even mp3 format anymore. Surprised he didn't just said "music downloads".

3. Tim seems to be more focused on what more work Apple needs to do rather than look at this statistic, we rock.

The great thing about the 4S is that I now know I can save my money and stick with my good ol' 3GS until the 5 comes out.
For me personally this is good cuz I am short on cash anyway atm.
No LTE is a no-buy, since it won't be that future proof and as competitive as some of the Andriod's offspring atm.
Buuuut... they managed to squeeze out some more battery time which imho is the best feat of the 4S.

yes totally agree with you.. however i meant it from the presentation point of view.. they could have just put up the slides and we could have read them.. no need to read the slides to us.. we all went to school and know how to read... also if this was only supposed to be 4S i would have been happy to see Tim present it.. why did they play it so safe?? and only Scott seemed to be caring about the whole issue..

Anyone else waiting for a download link? Will try and post one when its available. And no mention of iTunes 10.5? Isn't it still in beta?
