Come on…it’s not going to be revolutionary. It’s a cinder block…like last year..only faster. This is a nothing burger.

This looks exactly the same as the last one, just a few differences. iPhone 4 leak was massive, it put Gizmodo on the map, everyone in the world was talking about it, entirely new iPhone form factor.

Such a huge leak. Like anyone cares or watches the video. Funny.

Than again, it could quash 'product hype' plans, the costs being what they are
Well, it is a Mac, not exactly the most exciting product and probably this is the reason why someone think that this is not a big deal. The first problem is that it could have been anything, including, an unexpected and an unannounced product that we have never seen/talked about before. The second problem is that we don't just see some small component or part that got photographed and leaked, we see the actual product in its retail box weeks in advance of the actual announcement. The third problem is that we don't see a leak from a Chinese channel which is more or less expected as almost all Apple products are assembled in Chine, but from a Russian youtuber. The forth problem is that the leak is not just a photo, but actual stolen property.

Would be much easier to believe these leaks if any of them had the rumoured redesigned Mac mini. As there is no way of really telling if these MacBook Pro's are any different than their M3 counterparts makes it impossible to really tell.

I also agree that it's strange for the box art to not be updated. The box art on pretty much every Mac and iPhone for the past decade has received tweaks to the box design between every new model/spec bump.

With that being said, having two different people posting videos of the same box and machine, with all details seemingly this correct, do look convincing. Especially as the announcement is imminent, so having these in the wild is not that unlikely.

The rumours about there not being any "keynote" for the release, points to Apple not treating this as anything special. So they might be more lenient with security measurs, might have sent out review devices earlier than normal, shipped devices to retailers earlier than normal, etc.

We don't know if it's stolen, and it could be very damaging to the YouTube channels concerned if it were.

It could have come from a test or prototype production run that was not destroyed, or from an approved pre-release reviewer who broke their NDA, or be "on loan" from a supplier who has pre-positioned stock.

It is a bit dodgy, and presumably not something that Apple wants unless it's a controlled leak to generate a bit of hype.

If there’s more crime in the neighborhood, the most likely increased innovation will be around locks and other anti-theft measures, not the products that got stolen
lmao product leaks are not crimes. Be serious.

An unreleased product is Apple's property 100% and not for sale regardless if it was loaned or given to someone for a specific task. Test units and prototype don't get their sealed retail boxes. I'm also convinced that it is not controlled leak since it is a boring product that really can't generate any hype and we already knew it was coming out eventually. Also using a Russian youtuber for a controlled leak is probably the last thing Apple wants to do considering the war in Ukraine and the sanctions on Russia.

Well, you are wrong. Stealing is a crime. This is stolen property. Apple never sold this product, so the only way it could end in the hands of a Russian youtuber is if it was previously stolen. There is no scenario in which Apple just lost a box with an unreleased Mac and random guy found it and decided to post a video of it on youtube.

I agree that a controlled leak is very unlikely for the reason you gave.

It could all be a fake, but one has to ask why established YT channels who wish to maintain their reputation for accurate information would do this.

Bear in mind that the Geekbench results would probably be harder to fake (I presume it's more than a simple XML upload to an API endpoint? ) so someone has one of these machines and the specs appear to be valid.

It's not a huge deal in any case - we know that there will be an 14" M4 MBP with 10-core CPU & 10-core GPU, and that the M4 supports enough Thunderbolt controllers to allow for 3 TB4 ports, so seeing this machine is hardly surprising.

I would be much more interested in seeing a leak of the rumored M4 Mini!

Tell that to the Gizmodo editor who got his door kicked in over the iPhone 4 leak

So I was finally able to scan that QR code, and it links to...

Too bad there are no design changes. I still have my M1 MBP and it’s a bit chonky. The only thing that would get me to upgrade is a slimmer re-design. Sort of the same situation with the iPhone actually.

Like everyone said, terrible comparison. We all know these updates come yearly and there's nothing important about them, as it's a minor spec bump. iPhone 4 was a MASSIVE leap forward compared to 3GS, probably the biggest jump alongside iPhone X. Totally different and gorgeous design, no more plastic, massive back camera upgrade, front camera for the first time, the Retina display which no one had ever seen/experienced before. Also happened at a time when there were way less leaks as not the same amount of manufacturers compared to today, CADs were not sent to case makers either, so it made that leak even more incredible.

I didnt even bother to watch the unboxing video... I wont even be watching any English 'tubers M4 Macbook Pro videos either because its not like any of this was unexpected anyway... Big Whoop!

I haven’t read the whole thread - the most important now is: does it have WiFi 7 or not?

what a silly headline.

this is just a refreshed macbook. going from M3 to M4... wow. 16GB RAM in 2024? amazing!

iPhone 4 was an exciting new model at a time when smartphones were still exploding in popularity. iPhone 4 is a classic iPhone. In 14 years will we care about this M4 MacBook?

How is this that big of leak? I mean is it even real? Why is the wallpaper the same on the box? And even if it’s real, it’s not like a new design or any wow features to show us. I can see Apple disappointing everyone with 8GB base RAM for another five years.
