Apple Potentially Facing Worst Leak Since iPhone 4 Was Left in a Bar

Here’s to hoping MacRumors isn’t getting into the “clickbait journalism” business.

It’s the same damn laptop but with an extra thunderbolt port and an M4 chip inside it.

The iPhone 4 was a complete an total redesign, they had police show up at Gizmodo report’s house, Gizmodo paid a bunch of money for the stolen prototype, and the story goes on and on.

This is neither as interesting of a story nor as interesting of an upgrade.

Came here to post this. The new redesign, with a thicker chassis and more ports, was a bigger leak than confirming the M4 will simply get a spec bump.

100%. The headline was a little sensationalist. What’s the big deal? Even someone somewhat familiar with Apple’s plans could predict this latest upgrade.
 
Apples new products are so boring these days that I’m thinking this is just Apple marketing gimmick. I mean a new chip in the same laptop… why do we even care?
 
My conspiracy-addled mind thinks this must be some plan by Apple to flush supply chain leaks
 
I'm skeptical, they redesigned the front of the box for the m2 and m3, but not for the m4? The label on the back looks very different than any I've seen, which I 'think' makes it look more legit, however the front of the box didn't change at all? Seems unlikely to me given the history of making minor adjustments to the box with each new model.

If true, and there are reasons to believe it’s fake, but if true, another episode of just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should do it. Because a bunch of people behind the scenes probably will get in trouble with Apple. Smh.
 
It's literally the same laptop as last year with the same chip thats in the iPad pro...just like all Apple releases lately, a spec bump lacking innovation. The factory probably assumed it was last years laptop when someone took it.

Not true. They'e done this with box art before. More than once. Even did it with iMac boxes back in the 27 inch days (God I miss those!).

I really don't think anyone cares about this leak whatsoever. OK, a small spec upgrade to the MacBook pro. Big whoop.

I'm not saying they've never done it, I know the m1-m3 have all been different. I know and have seen many different iMac boxes, and would legitimately be surprised if any 2 models were the same, but maybe. Which two are the same? I'm guessing something around 2012-2015 timeframe, I think they had a few that came out in the same year?

Edit: and I was mostly referring to MacBooks, I know Mac Minis and I assume the Mac Studio and things without screens reuse the box art, but they have usually at the very least updated the image on the screen for all or almost all Macs since Jobs return anyways. They seem to have no hesitation with making more box art than necessary, they even have boxes for each color and variation of the iMac M1/M3 (2 and 4 usb-c/tb ports, and each color, and new art-and worse box-for the m3) but they thought the m4 Mac Pro was not worthy of an updated box? Not that it can't happen, but I'd be very surprised.

Gimme a break, it’s the same laptop with a new chip. The iPhone 4 was a totally new redesign of the iPhone.
 
Certainly unusual and a bit embarrassing for Apple if true. But that's the "worst" of it for a spec bump update appearing a few weeks early. Now if the new iPad Pro had turned up early like this, we'd be closer to what happened with the iPhone 4. But even then, what made the iPhone story so memorable was that the prototype had been left at a bar by mistake--as so many have done with their iPhones, just not a HIGHLY secretive major new model that has never been seen by the public. But the unfortunate vibe I'm getting from this Macbook M4 "leak" is that it probably involved illegal activity to get it.
 
I didn’t think the tear offs for the MacBooks ripped the paper off of the box. Fake for me. Though who cares. Well know within 3 weeks

Might be a pre-production model with a not yet finalized box art. Since the dimensions will not change, they just reused the current box.

The specs on the back are just a sticker anyway.

Is there anybody here who beleives that it is a leak? (iPhone 4 as well)... It is nothing but marketing - controlled, managed, deliberate "leak"..
