Even though I would love a G5PB, I am buying whatever is released next week.

I now have seen 3 contradicting reports of what the specs will be.

From Croquer Dans La (Croquer.free.fr):
M9418LL/A iBook 14, Combo, 1.25 Ghz
M9419LL/A iBook 14, Superdrive, 1.33Ghz
M9426LL/A iBook 12, 1 Ghz

M9183LL/A Powerbook 12 Combo 1.33 Ghz
M9184LL/A Powerbook 12 Superdrive 1.33 Ghz
M9421LL/A Powerbook 15 Combo 1.42 Ghz
M9422LL/A Powerbook 15 Superdrive 1.42 Ghz
M9462LL/A Powerbook 17, 1.5 Ghz

From the user Nemesis in this thread (post #170 on page 7):
- The 17" model will utilise 1.6 GHz G5 processor!
- Top 15" model will utilise 1.4 GHz G5 processor!
- Other models, plus iBooks, will run on updated G4s

From AppleInsider:
"All models are said to feature faster G4 processors"
Low-end 12-inch iBook 1GHz G4, 30 GB hd, 256 MB RAM, Combo Drive
Low-end 14-inch iBook 1GHz G4, 40 GB hd, 256 MB RAM, Combo Drive

I guess all we can do now is wait and see who is right. :)

Edit: grammer

Nemesis and the Oracle have been a bit quiet. Guys? Any further news?

James L...

Great post! Couldn't have said it better. We all hope you're wrong :D but your thoughts are common sense.
And common sense tends to be uncommon and not win many popularity contests in threads like this on rumor forums. ;)

Quite a few posters seem compelled to share (repetitively) a naive, uneducated, unresearched sort of "hopeful speculation". Sometimes it's not clear if they really believe what they're writing, maybe setting themselves up for disappointment if they're wrong? And some will gloat "told ya so" when they happen to guess right, as if anyone actually cares about their smug self-satisfaction.

Well, maybe it's the "we're all in this together, regardless" spirit that makes this worthwhile. After a few hundred posts any thread is virtually guaranteed to end up with a randomly diverse hodgepodge of interesting ideas, thoughtful considerations, sincere questions, vague commentary, personality conflicts, pure stupidity, and off-the-wall silliness. Etc. :p

I generally agree with the "conservative" posters re: updates and new models. But who knows? Sometimes it hard suspending all expectations (especially after being here too long )), but it's fun being surprised by news and announcements from Apple when it actually happens. Actually, this reminds me a whole lot like kids sneaking around to find out what their gifts are before it's actually time to open 'em. :D

Voltage Conversion

Thanks - but I think Apple's power adapter ramps down the voltage for you. All I should need is an AC plug that fits the Australian power outlets. I plan on buying a local converter anyway - but it would be nice if I didn't fry my soon-to-be fancy new G4 PB right when I get it.

Can anyone confirm whether a North American Apple power adapter will work in other countries with higher voltages without frying your computer?

Yes, I have travelled all over the world with mine and plugged it in directly to 220 with no problem. You can easily verify this yourself by looking at the (tiny) text on the adapter. It says (from memory) Input Voltage 110-240, 50-60Hz. Example: USA 110; UK 220. Of course you will almost certainly need an adapter just to make it fit the socket, but you do not need a voltage converter for the current design. :)
