No mister, am not with you in this! I do not buy a product to give it back. You should integrate here those witch not have an iPhone. Don't tell me apple sells known so called best products, just to tell those people: you are entitled to return the phone within 7 days for a full refund under trade practices... if you see, something is bad with the phone! No, this should not happen with a company witch theyr buyers not only give full trust in her but also admire and fight for her! Such company should be ashamed in this matter, nothing more! I am an apple fan since 10 years now and such thing like now never happened tome. Treathing customers as shitt. Apple we want not only your products apple, even if your iPhone is a crap in this momment, we do more care about your openess! Plese apple be open to us in every matter, then you will see how strong we hold in you. But if you break our trust, you just loose our trust in you! A long therm customer...

Well.... the thing is that there are 2 million iPhone 4's in circulation....
Are they all having the same problems... IF THEY ALL dropped out then there is an issue... But THERE ARE NOT 2 million iPhone 4's dropping out.

But if the choice is to rant in court next to the wet nurse and the greedy lawyer then so be it... It will be entertaining.

If it were a real concern for every single iPhone that has been sold then there will be 2 million complaints from 7 countries where it's sold... It's just not happening... and it wont happen.... REALITY.

Wait for another "but they must be in very good reception area" hint.

Apple is waiting this one out. They will not post a response.

It has been over a week that people have been waiting from an official statement or fix from Apple. Rumor sites claim daily that the "fix"-- whether it be hardware, software, or both -- is imminent. I am referring to not just the antenna issue, but the proximity sensor issue (which is a bigger deal actually than the overblown antenna issue).

I think if Apple intended to do something, they would have by now. Or at least issued a press release (not a one-liner email from Steve Jobs) saying that they acknowledge the problem and hope to have a solution shortly. That would shut people up.

The fact that nothing is being said leads me to believe that Apple's stance on this is that there is no problem and therefore no solution will be forthcoming. They are still selling the phone like hotcakes, the negative stories in the lay-press (not blogosphere) are dying down, and with the long weekend coming up, even less will be discussed about the iPhone's problems.

Besides, acknowledging a problem will be more fodder for the class action lawsuits that are springing up. If they issue a fix, it means they acknowledge something was broken and lawyers will have a field-day.

So it seems that the strategy that they are moving forward with is rather Clintonian- deny. deny, deny and move on. Perhaps it will work, or perhaps it will backfire- but it seems that Steve Jobs has made up his mind, and he seems like a pretty stubborn guy so I don't see it changing.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)

Nope.

Apple has generally released a bug fix update soon after X.0 releases. There are plenty of bugs in 4.0 (antenna, proximity, etc)

But iOS updates are big (not like little windows updates) so Apple wants to kill as many birds with one stone as possible.

Wait for another "but they must be in very good reception area" hint.

Here's one - many people have said they don't have this problem so it isn't real. Many have said it is (me included, on my phone, in reality, under normal use - not watching bars but trying to talk on the phone, you can drop calls or lose quality rapidly - in areas where a 3G or 3GS were fine).

So far I have yet to hear one person that can't replicate the problem in a location where it is legitimate (probably where you get less than perfect reception or some other factor of antenna type/distance in the first place) - show me one example where an iPhone 4 drops out when held over the strip (not even "death grip" tight as you people without problems insist the rest of us are doing) but one next to it won't? You can't. It's a design/software flaw, not a batch or QC issue.

Many seem too ignorant to accept this fact because "mine works and doesn't drop signal" but they still can't get it into their thick skulls that it is not apparent in all locations if the signal where you are is strong enough in the first place. I challenge anyone to show me a video of two iPhone 4's behave differently under the same circumstances - if one drops when you hold it in a certain location they all will. If you can't get it to drop in your location no-one's will. It's that simple - the product has a flaw, it doesn't please me any more than you, I paid for it too.

*All phones may exhibit attenuated signal when held but the iPhone 4 does it a hell of a lot more severely.
*I don't want a bumper - I always have the phone in my pocket so prefer it slim, I also don't like advertising the fact by having it's shape emphasised for when I'm on the tube in London etc.
*I hold the phone "normally", how I've always held every phone - my hands have evolved over thousands of years to do things naturally - I'm not doing it "wrong"
*I will be returning the phone on Thursday if there is no Apple response to anything being done.

To put it in perspective, there are people that are still waiting for their PRE-ORDER. I don't think there is a reason to be upset while we are still within a valid return date. You can also look at it this way, if they admit fault and don't release a fix, the problems will undoubtedly turn potential customers away.

be open..

Mister, i come from the best reception area, and am sure, neither here will be this reception problem for me, cause i have the best provider in this area.
But you didn't see my point!

Lets say i do travel in another area with bad reception area, well mister here you are wrong! What if those so called 2 MILLIONS almost are in good reception area and do not TRAVEL as much i do?

And tell me, why should'nt i believe all have same problem?

No it will be not rant in court 4 me, cause this i wouldn't do either!

But i see u see it by the prespective apple see it, not by the prespective a customer see it! Lets be clear, am sad not to buy iPhone 4, cause if i do like others do, they only help apple to be more quit in this matter. And let you also know, i even can buy 100 of iPhone 4. Its not a matter of money no, and am not against apple at all, but i have only a problem with theyr quitness against me as a trustfully customer, again, apple be open to us, please...

It has been over a week that people have been waiting from an official statement or fix from Apple.

For a purported Apple fan you don't seem to have a good grasp on how Apple works w/ product issues. Historically, they take weeks and months to post a fix. Usually they don't even admit there is a problem until the fix is release. If you are concerned then I'd prep your phone for return. Otherwise just chill.

Disagree. Patches take time to develop and thoroughly test. There is no way Apple would put out a half assed patch that doesn't fix anything but by doing so (releasing a useless update) admitting to the problem but not actually addressing it.

It's only been 1 week, that IMO is not enough time to address multiple bugs, develop code to fix these problems, test them and then release it to the public. I believe behind closed doors they are working overtime to resolve many of the complaints people have.

+1!Am with you on this. But they can admit the problem at least and inform us all to wait or whatever the problem is, may also be a recall, we would admire apple more and more:)

Return the phone if you don't think it works properly rather than making as many justifications as you can conjure up in order to keep the phone so that it legitimises a beshevelled rant at Apple.
Sure all the phones could have it happen... soo return them all!
Move on!

But it is rather entertaining to watch... I sit patiently waiting for my fair white i4 :D

Ya see here in Australia... we're pretty straight forward about these things... we hate layers and their $300 fees for opening their clients letters... So instead we rock on over to Apple... with our fair trading laws in pocket and say... it's faulty... money back. End of Line.

But please... go on... I am enjoying it. i especially like how Boy Genius report bought the fake greivance emails... BGR the suckers.

Hey you probably got slipped a Chinese knock-off... must be easy to do... does it have multi-SIM and TV and stylus like all the other replicas they sell...

They will issue a fix if that is even possible, but i think you won't see "fixes reception issues" in the changelog.

"An e-mail exchange being attributed to Steve Jobs is a fake, and was not written by him, according to Apple (AAPL) public relations."

Not Steve Jobs... Check.

"Asked on the record whether Steve Jobs was the author of any of these statements, a top Apple spokesman emphatically denied it."

Not Steve Jobs... Check.

But not a single word about the possibility that someone else, some drunk Apple employee was using his e-mail account. That's not a very strong denial. Some people will read bad in it. Gear up Apple PR.

Why are you so emotionally invested in a problem you don't have, wouldn't care if you did have, but get so wound up when people complain about a problem they do have?

Good you you, Yay for Aussieland, if you get a crap iPhone 4 return it, quietly go about your way and leave alone the people complaining about their crappy iPhone 4. Take your own advice, unless you just like to argue about a dog fight in which you plainly state you have no dog.

See the thing that makes you sound foolish is the implication that Apple fans can't complain. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Product issues that deserve a multi-month delay fix are not big things like reported antenna and proximity sensor issues that severely cripple the phone's use as a phone. The smaller things like photos occasionally getting sent rotated via email, or other glitches certainly get fixed in incremental updates months after release.

The response from the zombies here that "if you don't like it, get out" isn't productive.

I understand BGR should have done more investigation on the matter, but when you have a CEO of a company running his mouth sending out emails like:

"Just avoid holding it that way."

What can you really expect!? I'm waiting for Steve to start sending out emails saying "UMAD!?!?!?!?". I mean really these last few emails he's been sending out seem more like he's trolling his customers than actually helping them.

Personally I think Jobs needs to quit with the emails. Especially with the law suits going on, he's just going to destroy Apple. Personally I only like their phone's anyways... I hate their PC's (YES PC'S) once they switched to Intel. Even if Apple were to crumble I'll just use my Motorola Droid that still has a higher resolution screen than my iPhone 4.

And no I'm not going to return my iPhone 4 because of the reception problems. I just want Apple to face up to it and stop forcing their customers to pay $30 for a Bumper case to fix a problem for a device we paid $199-$299 for!

Just because Apple denies the email exchange doesn't make it truthful.

Lawyers are currently using Steve Jobs' previous emails re: iPhone 4 as supporting evidence, in their class action lawsuit against Apple.

I think Steve lashed out, as he often does, via email, and Apple attorneys have told him to stop. And they are now going to deny that his previous emails are even from him to try and prevent them from being included as evidence in lawsuits. This is a typical legal maneuver.
