Well, well. I'll have to say it "I told ya so".

2 weeks ago I posted how the blogs are competing with each other to post the scoop first. And then CNN/main media wants to pick it up fast also.

So I told you Steve... people are gonna fake your emails and fake the "headers" and those fake comments could hurt Apple's image and your stock price.
People don't read the 'retractions', they read the headlines.

"Apple's Steve Jobs tells users 'go to hell if you don't like it'."

You have access to some engineers I think, so have them make some quick email to blog entry and you can post all emails on apple.com in an official way.

the "problem" with that angle is that it gives the opportunity for apple PR to be disproved. that would be far worse than the comments being true. i don't think they would risk it being discovered that it WAS him after they said it wasn't.

Unfortunately, after working in PR and marketing in my other life, the rule of thumb is that if you continue to deny it, no matter the evidence, it's still not true.

If Sir Stevo is left to answer his own emails - which I'm still a bit in doubt about - it's certainly plausible that he could have shot from the hip and made a mistake.

Also, it's not easily proven - It's one lone guy with a long header - Long headers can easily be faked (yes, LONG headers) - which is, in this scenario, in Apples favor, though in general it sucks for them.

Nonetheless - Steve kinda looked like a big-ol-douche to a lot of people after those emails and it seems that Apple would have to deny it either way.

I dont see major roadblocks to this theory - but honestly, I don't care either. Either way the phone is obvious bjork'd and needs some help.

thanks for your opinion!
Brian

As a stockholder, I have watched the price drop over 20 points in the last couple of days. I know the markets are sucking wind, but BS like this makes it to the financial headlines, like it did today and doesn't help with the perception of the company or its leadership. Very irresponsible. I am pissed.

troll. another one. this could turn into a game

There are certain trolls, sorry I mean members, who I can imagine right now must feel pretty stupid after some of their comments in the thread for the original story ...

The thing smelled funny to me from the beginning as the "customer" claimed: "I have bought just about every apple product made in the last 20 years and this is the 1st time I am ashamed to be a MAC fan."

Only Winbots call them MACs. It's not an acronym. But they don't understand that.

And why would one call himself a MAC fan when he is in fact talking about Apple and not about the Mac at all?

Another classic troll flub.

Just sayin'...

Unlikely. Trolls feel no shame.

So you are saying the whole stock market dropped due to "irresponsible" actions by Apple.

That should have been obvious if you had read anything Mr. Jobs had written previously. He keeps it short and to the point. Also, he does not make statements that were phrased like those posted here (from BG).

Not really. If you'd take a look at the blog post here:

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010...-steve-jobs-on-the-iphone-4-antenna-problems/

You'll see that it's not simply a matter of "taking somebody at their word". Screenshots, textual header information, and pictures of the screen with the headers were used to "prove" the email exchange. BGR was provided far more proof that what is normally provided during these exchanges.

OMG I've got pictures of the screen that CONFIRMS the next Mac OS X is named Snow Cougar:

can libel suits be brought? surely this type of thing could affect stock prices

That was the idea I'm sure. Someone shorts a stock and then starts false rumors to bring the stock down. They then sell short and make a profit and then buy long and make a profit when the stock goes back up. Shorting stocks should be illegal.

So, all yous guyss sayin, "I knew it was fake, blah blah blah..."

What a bunch of liars and hypocrites!

I read every post, not that many questioning the authenticity of the email.

To say you knew it was fake, after the fact means nothing.

for the record, I got it.

It's not often that any even notice my work in that most fickle of literary genres, the forum post. My particular and usually unappreciated style includes a type of comment that often skirts a line that many willingly cross, and is indeed engineered to tempt people to *dare* to cross it. Related and complementary to trolling, somewhere between hyperbole and extreme (like "extreme" sports) sarcasm, it is known in the vernacular simply as flamebait.

I thank you. Besides the immense amount of entertaiment I derive from posting, people like you, with a nod or a wink, make it all worth while.

I partially blame Apple and SJ for this. Apple is letting the FUD run wild by not taking the issue head on and instead hiding behind a couple of SJ one liners and short PR statement. The secrecy in this case lets the conspiracy people invent pretty much anything. Look how many RF and antenna experts that are on these boards alone ;)

If Apple came out and stated that they know some phones have issues, it's not a design problem, and that they are working on it then emails like the ones in this article would have never been believed to begin with. Instead they stay silent and leave many searching for any answer to their very real signal problem.

For the record I have access to 3 iPhone 4s. Two of them, recently bought, have no signal issue (and yes I tested in weak signal areas and they worked fine). The third, bought on release day, can go from 5 bars to no signal with a simple touch.

That's great. Keep up the good work.

Most if not all of us Apple followers and Apple users know from the history of Steve Jobs responses that he would never indulge in such ignorance that has been displayed in the so called email exchange that was sent to this person. It was a public stunt just to get some sort of PR on the internet.

Damn my PR department are saying it's fake? Well I guess it's for the best....but that guy really needed to get laid. It's good that my people pick me up when I troll a guy too hard.

muhahahahah

BGR updated their original post and maintains the emails are real. Header info has been posted and screenshots, etc. I don't know how to read the header stuff, so take it for what you will.

Seems like a bad position to put themselves in...

Arn has a good thought on logging into Gmail and examining the data there. Unless you hacked google it would be difficult to fake such a thing.

I suspect that is not what BGR has done, and thus by sticking to their story (which by the way they apparently PAID for these emails), just makes them look even worse.

Maybe Gawker purchased BGR in the last week or so in a secret deal?

Oh dear.

I don't mind BGR normally as it doesn't appear to be a sensationalistic site. If they are fake (I don't know who or what to believe any more) I hope all this does is make the people at BGR check, check again and recheck their sources for a better quality news stream.

EDIT:
...which by the way they apparently PAID for these emails)....

Is there any credence to this? I ********** hope not.

Idiotic if true.

Apple Insider says this guy offered them the emails for money.

I find it unlikely given that, that BGR ended up with them, that they did not pay for them.

I am Having a meeting with Steve tonight about how best to screw with peoples heads and make them beg for more. This site frequently comes up in conversation in these types of meetings.

Keep it Up Guys :D:D:D

When Stevie gives me a Happy Finnish (as he always does at these meetings) I will be thinking about how crazy the PC/Mac psycho world can get and really let my inner gas flow unto the public.........

Now......
