Just leave it to Apple to be victimized by a fake email exchange. I can't take it anymore, returning all my iProducts as soon as I submit this comment.

No, not at all. Not a screenshot, or a copypaste. If *you* log into gmail and see the headers themselves. Can that be faked?

So BGR just took this guy at his word? And possibly paid him for this bogus info? Is there anybody with a conscience in this business?

Please tell me that you don't practice this kind of sleazy reporting.

I've always liked BGR, as I visit BGR, Engadget, and this site at least once a day while I'm bored at work (government worker here). As far as I can tell this is the first inaccurate thing BGR published, and I'm sure it's a tough lesson learned by them.

This isn't a case of "oh we want to bash Apple and Steve Jobs so we will publish anything without thinking about it". Looking at the updated article, they were provided screen shots, textual header information, etc. I'm sure almost any big tech/phone blog would of published the email exchange given the information.

I don't like BGR's comments, as it's usually 4chan like in nature. However it seems the immature idiocracy that is found in BGR's comments have made its way onto Macrumor's iPhone forum. "Cool story bro" and other 4chan speak should be banned from a site like this if it wants to stay credible.

Not really. If you'd take a look at the blog post here:

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010...-steve-jobs-on-the-iphone-4-antenna-problems/

You'll see that it's not simply a matter of "taking somebody at their word". Screenshots, textual header information, and pictures of the screen with the headers were used to "prove" the email exchange. BGR was provided far more proof that what is normally provided during these exchanges.

The great :apple: Witch Hunt of 2010 continues...

WAS IT THE ENGINEERS?
WAS IT STEVE JOBS HIMSELF?
ARE WE ALL CRAZY AND THERE IS NO ISSUE?

Stay tuned.

This whole situation is so rife with bullshart it isn't funny. Let me just be one of the few that says Im loving and enjoying my iphone 4.

edit: Oh and let me just say the situation with gawker, the person that found/stole the protoype, this guy shopping and his supposed conversation with jobs, and BGR (if they bought it) are all pieces of ****.

I apologize if this has been said, but is it possible that Apple just didn't like what Steve said, so they are claiming it as a fake?

could be completely wrong, per usual :)

Brian

BGR updated their original post and maintains the emails are real. Header info has been posted and screenshots, etc. I don't know how to read the header stuff, so take it for what you will.

Those of you criticizing MacRumors for posting this story without "checking its validity" and all that other garbage should read the name of the site again.

Go ahead, read it again. Good. Now read it once more.

Get it now?

It's all about presentation. Sometimes this site gets it right. Other times not so well.

Owning a product or products from a company doesn't make someone a fanboy.

Getting defensive or being snide to someone that has a qualm with the attitude or lack thereof that a company responds with to an issue DOES make someone a fanboy.

And as you said, your new phone doesn't have any reception issues. My 3GS drops to 1 bar if I hold it but I don't have dropped calls or receptions issues.

This is precisely why I haven't cancelled my order, because it may very well be a non-issue for me. As a current and prospective customer, however, I'd like to know that the company can reassure me that issues will be addressed and that my satisfaction is in fact a priority.

That is the way businesses used to be run. So yes, I'll say again, as a customer of Apple it is off putting to me to see that they respond so quickly to debunk fake e-mails, yet by comparison, have been slothful to address this reception issues that some people seem to be having. And by reception issue, I don't mean loss of bars, I mean actual call quality and calls being dropped.

So please tell me, being that I currently don't own an iPhone 4...how is that I don't really matter?

Actually, the term "fanboy" has zero meaning now. You can be called a fanboy for bashing a product or lifting it up - bashings someones opinions or agreeing with it. Hell, you can even be called a "fanboy" for writing a freak'n emoticon in the wrong place.

There is ZERO consistency in it's use and therefore it's a truly bastardized phrase used by people who get way to angry way to easily.

I've been called a fanboy several times out of the blue - so I'm pretty confused about what the hell it actually means.

In general, the internet and forums (and digg and 4chan) make people worse in life - just in general :)

sorry for the rabbit trail, do forgive me! It's just this 'fanboys' pet peeve.

I thought a few of the responses seemed Steve-like, but I couldn't figure out why he would say it's not a problem and then "we're working on it" later.

Steve is a lot of things, but he is not stupid. He is probably one of the smartest people alive. If you see him in interviews, he is ALWAYS on top of things. He doesn't miss details. He doesn't say things thoughtlessly.

So that part didn't jive with me.
Not long ago he said in a verified email relating to the antenna issue "stay tuned". Kinda like "we're working on it", enough that the possibly-fake emails are at least somewhat plausible; there's really nothing in them all that controversial.

The only noteworthy thing is that these are the first SJ emails published that Apple PR has explicitly denied are authentic.

But like the emails themselves, that claim is just hearsay.

I'm surprised so few are willing to leave that option open, instead rushing to judgment.

the "problem" with that angle is that it gives the opportunity for apple PR to be disproved. that would be far worse than the comments being true. i don't think they would risk it being discovered that it WAS him after they said it wasn't.

All the crybaby whiners on here ripping Steve Jobs for something he never said. What a bunch of tools!!!!!

How does it feel to be proven to be idiots?

LOLOLOL!!!!

Agree. Monkeys that throw their own dung rarely have the fortitude to recant their actions. They just scream louder 'til your ears hurt.

I have been VERY suspicious of these Steve Jobs emails from the start. Unless you have some sort of per-use biometric private key system, it is almost impossible to immediately confirm who sent an email message. All we know it could be a 'bot hacked into a server at an ISP intercepting emails.

There was a big stink over that years ago with a 'bot found in some ISP servers intentionally altering or blocking emails of some political and religious groups. The ISP is no longer around now and lost of lot of credit for the "net neutrality" that is the mantra of this Internet.

Haha

I would think it would be rather difficult without hacking googles dns servers (or apples). Or gmail

So the owner of the advertising agency can't spell AND he's stupid. I feel sorry for his employees.
