Are you smoking something? The nominal virtual resolution of of the rMBP13 is lower than the MBA 13. The results are better than the MBA 13". The MBA 13" does not have a better screen in terms of quality of image. If just arm flapping about number of pixels the rMBP 13 has 2560x1600 which blows the doors off the MBA 13.
As someone who finds the 13" just slightly too small and the 15" just slightly too big I propose the following:
-12" for those who need ultra portability (11" is just too small to do anything. Get a tablet if you're in this crowd). Budget model; ULV or dual processors, integrated graphics. The new Air (typical student, everyday browser laptop).
-14" for those like me that want a steady compromise of power and portability, and physical screen real estate. Quad core and discrete graphics.
-16" for the power users: tons of screen estate, large footprint and internal volume for the best hardware. Fastest CPUs and GPUs.
These would all be in the current MBP chassis meaning uniform (cube) body shapes. I hate the teardrop shape of the Air. Drop the Air and Pro lines and SIMPLY have the 12", 14", and 16" MacBooks. Retina on all models. Fusion drives on all models to optimize performance/storage needs.
How does this not seem like the best solution? It screams elegance IMO.
12'' Macpad with Retina Display!
It looks like Jony Ive been toying with Surface too much recently! to make it slimmer they will do the following:
-drop the USB ports
-drop the MagSafe
-offer one thunderbolt 2 port
-offer one lightening port for charging
-offer wifi an 4G options
-black clamshell design
innovation.
Apple wants surfaces with a high scratch resistance. Black is not scratch resistant enough....BTW, don't be surprised to possible see the Mac Book Pros show up in black also like the new Mac Pro.
As I clearly stated, I was talking about desktop space, not about what is obvious: retina is better than non-retina
Yeah, 16:9 is annoying on a PC. I bet everyone just does it so they can say the magical marketing term "1080p". I wish my monitor was 1920x1200 instead of 1920x1080.
I could only hope it was, but I'd love to see improvement in the keyboard. Perhaps a stronger polycarbonate....I mean plastic, with a slight texture. Or even a refined slate, or the quartz like iphone home buttons, at the risk of making it heavier. I'm sure there is room for improvement on the touch pad as well. Bad keyboards (layouts included) and touch pads are my #1 complaint about laptops -- Apple's are top notch, IMO, but I'd like to see the bar get raised.
Hell, the power button could embed the fingerprint sensor as well. I can't imagine that won't be integrated into more products, assuming the TouchID storage interface is "portable" (as in, taken out of the A7 and put in a "T7" chip?).
Edit: big brother doesn't like passionate language.
Do you guys not want thinner, lighter laptops?
Making the iMac thinner is one thing but I sure do want my actual portable devices to be as thin, light, and useful as possible.

Just get rid of all current macbooks and start again.
Macbook 11, 13, 15, 17 all with retina displays.
A 12" is too small. Make it 14" all retina one macbook line with portability of an Air. Too many choices man.
This is NOT possible.
A 12" 2304 x 1440 retina resolution is, in fact, the equivalent to 1152 x 720 in actual work space (screen real state). That is LESS than the current 11", and it will be extremely uncomfortable to work with.
iOS in laptop would be a mistake.
Quote from post 252:
"I greatly prefer the 13" model's 16:10 aspect ratio over anything 16:9"
I disagree. This is IMO a violation to being elegant! The 16:10 ration may have its advantages in form of pixels, but IMO has so "pallid looks" being on the edge of an almost "square" window pane, not an elegant display that excels in using the width, to left and right.
