Apple asking manufacturers to prepare ... 1 billion iPhones.

Though somehow I still won’t manage to get one on launch day :D

I'm going to try one of those big phones; if I don't like it I can always give it to one of my grandsons.

I never thought I'd need a phone bigger than the 4S but once I had the 5 I liked it. Maybe the same thing will happen with the 5.5 inch iPhone 6.

Now would be a good time to buy apple stock, me thinks.

First time I would agree with a comment like this. I personally will not be buying a iPhone 6 because I still think the Note 3 hardware will be better and I love Android. But many people are not like me and all they ever wanted was a larger iPhone. So sales are going to be through the roof for Apple. My guess is that stocks are going to be around $130 to $180 by October.
Don't hate because I love my Note 3. Just understand that people have different preferences. I actually want Apple to survive and not end up like Blackberry, Microsoft (phone wise) or Nokia.

Just leave the 5.5" iphone out of the conversation. We all know it's not getting released. Only the 4.7" model for the next 2 years. After that a 5" model for another 2 years and then maybe a 5.5" in 4 years. Why should Apple release 2 models when we all know that the 4.7" will be sold out for months?
If you look at Android we are (Note 3 owner) pretty much at the max size for a phone that our hands can handle and before we call it a tablet. Why would Apple rush to that same conclusion? But this might actually work for Android because now you're going to have to concentrate on making your product better; not bigger.

Our product is already better in terms of performance and our next step is to go bigger to attract Andriod users which we know if we build it, they will come.

And by the way we did release two different iPhone models last year.

:apple:

Well you got to have that supply chain ready since even Samsung is advertising to everybody that a better, larger iPhone 6 is coming.

You guys are so ridiculous. I realize its called MacRumors, but....

First its - 5.5 delayed cause due to supply problems.

Then its - Apples making a bazillion of each.

Tomorrow it will be something else....

Wow, that seems like a lot. I'm glad though, maybe no 3 month back orders. I wonder how many iPhone 5Ss they sold.

High Failure Rates

I was pleased to see this news until I read: "... Apple is reportedly asking component makers to prepare enough parts for up to 120 million iPhone 6 models in order to compensate for high failure rates." Sorry, but I need a phone on which I can rely. Maybe next time.

The fail rate is a yield before it ever leaves factory. If a panel is ruined, they cant reuse it.

I'll be able to use the 5.5" one handed..... you won't be able to?

So you'll come back later when it is released and eat some crow? I heard it goes well with BBQ!

You do realize these aren't real pictures of real iPhones yes? So to make comparisons about the button or the spaces is silly. It's especially silly when you toss in the famous "Apple/Ive/any designer......" quote so many like to say and you've done it..... Calm down.... let the date come and then you can start trashing the design.

I used to be against a larger iPhone but we all need to grow up some day and so does the iPhone. Waiting for a 5.5" to land in my hands...... can't wait.

Amen. Testify, brother!

Apple always finds a way to BS its way out of things..... I'm cringing at the thought of his dumb promo video where he back pedals just like the rest of the Apple fanboys. :)

We all know you are a fanboy. Come on, admit it. It's okay. I mean, otherwise, would just be downright sad that you come here...

In other news.... so i've got no idea what size would be best for me. What android models (i know nothing about them) would be best for me to go get my hands on to get a feel for equivalent sizes? I have no idea how big that 5.5 would feel...

Can't wait to hear how Ive will explain that you'll need two hands to operate such a big phone. How will he bs his way out of it?

As if Apple is obligated to feed the insatiable appetite of people who criticize their every move. Why mention one-handed use in the first place? Every company advertises the positive aspects of their product; a bigger iPhone 6 will be advertised differently than a smaller iPhone 4S or 5.

But I thought "the next big thing is already here"??? That sure is a lot of units for a device that's just supposed to be playing catchup with Samsung. It's almost as if Samsung is.... not the next big thing.:D

70 to 80 million at launch time. That is about 1% of all the people alive. We really live in a different world.

I'll be getting the 4.7" iPhone. I prefer portability and discreetness.

So now Apple will sell four phone sizes? The 4S, the 5C (presumably), the 6 - 4.7, and the 6 - 5.5.
