Where is everyone thinking the 5.5-inch doesn't exist now?

Honestly I think it will come. Im still hoping this is just a giant trolling though.

Not against the idea of a bigger iPhone, I just don't get what the excitement is all about. I guess apple HAS to update something, and this way we will get the better battery life with bigger size (in theory) I suppose thats all great and wonderful.

I actually think my only concern is that I am just not personally interested.

My 5s is soo good I can't convince myself to want a 6... oh dear poor me and my first world problems.

Apple always finds a way to BS its way out of things..... I'm cringing at the thought of his dumb promo video where he back pedals just like the rest of the Apple fanboys. :)

I think they'll say something in the line of "we listened to our customers and met their demands" and will move on without giving a **** about what a few people online think.

----------

We all know you are a fanboy. Come on, admit it. It's okay. I mean, otherwise, would just be downright sad that you come here...

Once a while you might want to do some research before posting something like that ;) .

Im tired of the "will they release at the same time" speculation.

If 5.5 is released later the _ONLY_ reason for that will be apple testing the 4.7 inch waters before releasing the 5.5. I highly doubt the brain trust @ apple is having technical problems with the hardware.

P.S. If Apple does hold it back it will really piss me off. Ill buy it. Not saying I won't. But its gonna piss me off.

Regarding those hundreds of thousands of new jobs, what if Apple manufactured the new iPhones in the U.S. Sure, it would mean profits, but instead of a cash hoard of $150 billion why couldn't Apple settle for a smaller cash hoard, say, $100 billion. Why must corporation pursue maximum profits at the expense of local jobs? Why can't they merely pursue maximum profits based on local jobs? Sure, you can argue the facilities aren't here, but that's a long term consequence of shifting jobs overseas for a number of years.

With offshore outsourcing, the paradigm of "corporations making profits which benefits their communities with jobs" no longer applies.

Count me in for the 4.7". Hopefully the 32GB is the base now. If so, I'll get the 64GB.

It's a matter of returns, not absolute dollars. Considering that Apple has made about a billion iPhones or so, even an extra $50 in costs per phone are quite significant. Plus, also consider that Apple has probably done more to lift the standard of living among previously dirt poor in China than most other companies. That means something. Income inequality between countries breeds distrust, too.

Prices need to be $600-650 for the 32 GB version off contract. Most likely they will charge $850 for the 32GB 5.5 off contract.

$850 for a phone.

Ok Apple you talked me into it. Give me that 5.5".

I would buy off contract at that price.

Now it's from WSJ, Apple's official news outlet, there should be no doubt about it. Apple better prepare more gold colored phones this time. We will hear more from Apple indirectly tomorrow on their earnings forecast for the Sept Qtr.

I thought they had a falling out?

Many people with bigger hands like myself look forward to a larger iPhone.
I am 6'0" and this is my hand with my iPhone.

Maybe a bigger phone would suit you that’s a personal choice and that’s fine. icolove was getting at the point that Apple is not consistent and I agree. BTW I’m 6’2” and my phone looks pretty much the same in my hand as yours does but, and it’s a big but……
When in use, (remember the Keynote and crap about how it was the perfect size for one handed use?), the bottom right corner of the phone, A is usually in the centre of the palm of a hand where point B is. This means C1 moves to C2. Try reaching the corner of the screen let alone the device with your thumb. Not so easy right, not impossible but I’d suggest a stretch for you and an insurmountable task for most whose hands are smaller if it is to be ’natural', and most is who the phone is aimed at no?
Now this on a 4” screen, imagine a 4.7” or god forbid a 5.5”

I have no problem with and in fact love Apple devices but Ive and his cronies talk 5h1te.

I usually pick on people with those huge Samsung Galaxy phones, calling them an "iPad Mini" so originally I was going for the 4.7 inch. But now I've actually changed my mine and can't wait for that 5.5 inch to release!!! And with RETINA?!? That screen is going to be so beautiful.

SEPTEMBER CAN'T COME FAST ENOUGH.

Can't wait to hear how Ive will explain that you'll need two hands to operate such a big phone. How will he bs his way out of it?

I don't think he needs to explain anything about it. It's self explanatory, people have asked for screen size choices and Apple is giving it to them. I believe the 4'7" can still be used one handed. For the rest of people who are not bothered about one hand use there is 5.5". So yes, Apple is giving us something that it normally doesn't, choice.

ZZZZzzzzzz……….This is exactly the kind of response those liars in Cupertino are going to give. When politicians back pedal we berate them for it, when Apple does it we praise them or ignore it. No wonder the term Fanboys was coined.

Telling the truth would earn my respect at least.

"A large enough portion of our customers have been demanding a larger screen and, despite the fact that it renders the phone not usable by one hand in all aspects, we have decided to deliver"

Will that happen? Idk. Stranger things have happened in tech though.

When you publicly make a statement as to why your screen size is the perfect size (in response to why it's not bigger) it would be nice to make a statement as to what changed your mind.

I hope we don't hear the word perfect AT ALL here. While it may be easily implied that consumer demand brought apple to these
Conclusions it would be nice to get verification.

I'm divided three was in how it will go down. They may just not mention it at all, as you suggest. They may backpedal and explain why thisnisnallmodnthenaudden te "new perfect". And they may simply admit that their consumers, despite apparently "not knowing what they want before they see it" actually knew what they wanted years before Apple decided to deliver.

Thankyou. I’ve tried to find the actual keynote but after a lot of reading can’t be bothered to look any further. So far the only quote I have a is a Jobs one;
“3.5 inch handset size is the “sweet spot” for mobile phone design; big enough to produce detailed, legible graphics, but small enough to fit comfortably in the hand and pocket.”
I also have a Nokia 625 that has a 4” screen and I don’t mind admitting I can’t use with one hand in the way that SJ described. I’m not going to get all bent out of shape about it though. I just find it really irritating when companies lie.

or you are simply one of those customers that dont give a ... about what was said years ago by some guy at apple

That will earn respect from me too. A massive amount of respect. Mind you I’m not sure that the Apple board are after my respect, they can’t spend it except in the store that is myself.

That is exactly why the companies get away with what they want. This may be something small but that ethos will carry through to other areas of their business. If they will lie publicly imagine what they get up to behind closed doors. It devalues and takes the shine off anything else they put in the press.

I wonder if Apple is gonna forecast this correctly. I think the demand for the 4.7 and 5.5 should be pretty balanced, unless somehow the average customer sees the 5.5 as the 'high-end' model. If that's the case, then they should probably make more of the 5.5. Maybe the keynote and their website promoting the two sizes will give us hints as to how they forecasted the demand.

Nope 4.7 will be more popular. 5.5 is getting into tablet waters.
