How can you fix overheating with a software update? By throttling the the CPU?
Exactly this. They say they will not throttle the CPU. Make no mistake they might pull a Samsung here, by limiting apps using the full potential of the CPU (so not limiting hardware but software), but allowing benchmark apps to use it because those are temporary scenarios.

I hope the problem really is misdirecting E core tasks to the higher-power (and higher heat) P cores and that those tasks can return to the background whence they belong and NOT that Apple just reduces overall performance for everything.

Have the 15 pro since the first day and so far I haven’t had any issues with it.
No heat during safari usage, calls, recording video or photos…
I don’t use a lot of social media apps. From the apps that are blamed by Apple, there is just Uber on my phone.
Phone was only slightly warm during the data transfer from the 13 pro, since then absolutely nothing.

What about the issue of their “implementation” of USBC regarding power banks? That seems as troubling (BMW car issue sounds more like combo of BMW bad wireless charging and the heat issues).

I don’t blame Apple. How could they have known? Both instagram and Uber are rarely used by anyone so they couldn’t possibly test it before hand. /s
Beside that, I don’t get it that the OS itself doesn’t stop or throttle the process of these apps by itself when the phone gets so warm and the apps demanding that much of processing power..

Three days after Apple said that it would release a software update with a fix for a bug contributing to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max overheating, MacRumors can confirm that Apple is now internally testing iOS 17.0.3.

iOS-17.0.3-Feature.jpg

It's unclear when iOS 17.0.3 will be released to the public, but the update will likely be available either later this week or next week.

Apple did not provide any specific details about the bug that it identified, but it said that it will not be reducing the performance of the A17 Pro chip with its planned software update. Apple also said the iPhone 15 Pro's titanium frame is not to blame, so it appears that the overheating issues are not the result of hardware deficiencies.

The same bug fix should eventually be included in iOS 17.1, which is currently in beta and is expected to be released in late October.

Apple added that the overheating issues were also related to some apps overloading the A17 Pro chip, including Instagram, Uber, and racing game Asphalt 9: Legends. Apple said it was working with the developers of these apps to address the situation. Instagram already released an app update with a fix on Wednesday. Uber also updated its app today, but whether it addresses this issue remains to be determined.

Not all iPhone 15 Pro users have experienced overheating, and it's unclear how many users have been impacted by the issue, but it should be fixed soon.

It's not just the 15's over heating, I've had this issue with my 13 Pro 😏

No external link for this confirmation? We all know Apple is working on fix, but they have yet to say specifically it's a separate 17.0.3 compared to October's 17.1. Also I checked other sites, don't see that confirmation. Apple was actively working with developers for specific app's that were involved with overheating instances that we know because they said so. ;)

This is the great to way to promote the line..

"over 90% of active iPhones are now on 17.1 just after a few weeks of it being released to the public, Andriod's latest is only at X%"

Hello, I have overheating problem when opening the camera app, even without taking photos. I have no problem with other apps. I have an iPhone 15 PRO 256GB. Has this happened to anyone else with the camera?

I had the overheating problem exactly once two days after I bought iPhone 15 Pro. I'm OK with throttling under super heavy heat if that's the solution. I bought two iPhone 15 Pros, and if they fix the software (via throttle or otherwise) I will buy two more.

Alternative statement: "over 90% of active iPhones are now over heating just after a few weeks of iOS 17 being released to the public" 🤣

It's BS. Damage control all over again. Something is clearly not right. They either throttle or limit the hardware or software. No doubt.

"Only a small group of users experience overheating".

Yes. Open the camera app* and put the phone** in your shirt pocket. Start singing “The heat is on”.

*Easily done by accident courtesy of the camera icon on the Lock Screen.

Let’s talk about the battery I’m at the point of charging twice a day which is x2 worse than my 13 and now I have a 15 pro and don’t use any pro app and it gets the battery like it’s an iPhone 5 or something… I’m serious.
