My problem with 17.4 is that sound won't work in the background using Safari. When the phone goes to sleep or I try to open another app it goes silent. When I go back into Safari sound starts again without having to hit the play button.

Glad to hear this. Hopefully fixes Safari tab sync not clearing out closed tabs on other devices.

I definitely will not be installing either of these - perhaps I will just wait until iOS 18 at this point

Believe it or not. EU citizens can still use their iPhones as always. But Apples brainwashing is also working outside the EU.
Indeed. Since updating to iOS 17.4 last week my iPhone works exactly the same as before. The only thing I had to do was select Safari as my default browser. That was it! No prompts to look for alternative stores or anything else. Pretty much a non event, to be honest.

Ha I’ll be that guy this time. I hope it fixes the battery drain. Noticed a lot of fast discharge on both watch and phone since 17.4. Was a lot better on .3

I will be that guy with you. I have had nothing but problems with 17.4 Battery drain, freezes, lockup of apps. First time in a really long time this has happened to me if ever honestly.

I’ve read things like “What if my iPhone installs apps I don’t want?” or “I don’t want other browser engines and no other market places” and these people weren’t even thinking about what they are saying

Yeah this very newsreader crashed on me a couple times right after the update. It’s not too bad but it’s noticeable. I’ve done the obligatory second reboot and time on the charger to re-index or wherever it mutters about to itself these days. Seems a little better on phone but still bad on watch.

My iPhone 15 PM if in deep sleep does not wake when tapping on the screen. I mean the phone shows blank screen but is on. Happened with lasest beta version and now with 14.7 stable version. Something is fishy with the always on display and device deep sleep.

It’s quite amazing the level of mental gymnastics people perform to invent problems that they will be ‘impacted’ by. They really show how little they understand about what’s going on around them.

What a load of horse crap. It won't affect you if you are out of EU and by not updating, you are missing important security feature of locking your phone if it gets stolen and thief knows your passcode. But carry on....
Choosing better friends will also help with this. I assume thats who would know your password. 😂

I fear that iOS 17.4 has a bug in the Matter/Threads implementation. I lost all connections to my Nanoleaf devices due to the update. I hope 17.4.1 fixes the bug.

that feature just scares me.. if traveling and need a password reset I'm screwed. ill stick with activation lock with find my

I'll keep my expectations low, but I hope this will improve battery life on my 15 Pro Max, because compared to 17.3 it's been pretty garbage. Also, my CarPlay has trouble syncing to accurately match where I'm driving. For example, when I'm parked at the gym in the morning, my carplay will say that I'm 2 minutes away from my destination (Gym)

Surprising Apple is testing this way. They should test against sites they own so secrets won't be detected. For exotic functions, they can develop their own pages witch they can keep confidential or highly secured.

I suppose I should go ahead and update to 17.4. I’ve Been stubborn with the Eu change lol

No worries. The only real EU change so far is being presented with two pop-up windows once updated to iOS 17.4. One to choose the default browser and another one - giving kudos to Apple’s AppStore. Honestly, so far it has been a joke, just like having to choose between Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer back in the day. 😋

This is actually in 17.3.1 too, they just tweaked the location-aware settings for it in 17.4

Oh I’m not Even in the eu lol. It was more of a principle since I am against changes 😂

I did update and no major changes or bugs.
