I don't understand this mindset at all....I have a quite a bit of disposable income, but still don't spend it frivolously nor recklessly. Granted, I've never been the early-adopter type, but even if you want this, why not wait it out a few weeks/months and see how it works in the real world instead of "day one"?

It would kinda suck to read sometime mid January that a bunch of people have been "folding it wrong".

Foldables have been around 7-8 years. Unless people are blind or are clueless with handling phones you can’t fold it wrong

we'll have to wait and see if people are willing to pay $2,000 or more.

This from ChatGPT so take it with a grain of salt, but still the point is there:
“Approximately 60% of U.S. consumers have used installment plans for purchases in the past year, with 55% of iPhone buyers and 44% of Android buyers opting for such plans.”

The vast majority of consumers are never paying full price for their phone, at least not upfront.

That’s why it almost every iPhone event Apple says that you can “get $1000+ off of the brand new iPhone 17 Pro Max with qualifying trade-in and installment plan from qualifying carriers”.
Literally the very first thing you see when you go to the T-Mobile homepage this morning is “iPhone 17 Pro under $100!”
Same goes for other foldable phones already on the market, the Galaxy Z Fold7 is being advertised from T-Mobile right now as “only $29.17 a month!” Full Price: $1999+ Tax.

The iPhone fold is going to get these exact discounts, it is not going to be people paying $2000 out-of-pocket. Instead, it’s going to be people choosing to pay $29 over 40 months or whatever instead of $25 or so.

Foldables have been around that long, but Apple's take on it hasn't. They aren't magically exempt from first gen issues.

There can be issues of course but people won’t be able to fold it wrong. As long as people don’t damage it don’t think people have anything to worry about. Not given apples high level support on hand if they do

Day one buy. Watch, the preorders ship dates will slip within hours. Everyone saying it’s too expensive for the masses is grossly underestimating how many people have the disposable income to make this purchase, and even more who will justify it as a productivity tool. I’ve said it before…pirorties. I know people who spend $2k on Starbucks each year. This isn’t a niche product it’s a demand wave waiting to happen. See you back here when it blows past initial forecasts.
I'm not sure. Apple have had some misses recently. Vision Pro, iPhone Air.

Even if the hardware is decent, the software could be ass. Again, why not just wait a bit and see?
If any company is going to get the software of a foldable right it’s Apple, they are literally to this day still the only company to somehow get the tablet OS right.
Google has been trying and failing for almost 20 years, Microsoft even longer.
As for the hardware, well… The actual folding screen is developed and manufactured by the company who has been making the phones for the last eight years.
It will be fine.
The bigger question is, why do you care so much what people do with their own money?
Some people just like the thrill of being early adopters, remember there were 6.1 million original iPhones sold, and as Steve Balmer so helpfullypointed out, it was “$500, the most expensive phone in the world, and it doesn’t appeal to business customers because it doesn’t have a keyboard”.

There is no Apple's take on it. Apple is literally using Samsung's display for their Fold. In fact the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide releasing before the iPhone is using the same display as the iPhone Fold

This changes everything, all over again!

Remember, Apple skates to where the puck will be, not where the puck is, by patiently waiting for movement of the crowd to detect trends, because Apple doesn’t seek to be the first but to be the best. Plus, the era of spatial computing is here, so adjust your expectations for the iPhone Fold accordingly. Rest assured that whatever Apple releases will be the best-in-class of the device, with game-changing features that take things to a whole new level, for which Apple can’t wait to see the incredible things customers are able to do, so Apple thinks you’re gonna love it.

There, I think that about covers it. Be sure to like and subscribe!

At last a more satisfying way for the people with uncontrollable anger during a conversation to take it out on their thousands of dollars phone by snapping it in half then throwing it across the room.
Like the old days when Dad ripped the entire phone off the wall and threw it out the window if that boy called you again.

I love this and will definitely buy!

I don’t think I believe this idea of splintering iOS instead of using iPadOS. We have an iPad mini and I can’t imagine “let’s do a cut down iOS inside” while they’ve been doing all this work for iPadOS 26.

I see this running iOS on the outside and basically iPadOS inside, a few tweaks here and there, and having a graceful handoff when you close it and it switches between iOS and iPad view. They’ll still just call it iOS but I can’t imagine it being the same size as a mini and just being split screen iOS.

Have to see the actual hardware and software as well as the price. But it sounds enticing for my usage of iPhone and iPad. I would trade in my iPad beforehand for credit and then my current iPhone while buying it. Should bring down the price nicely.

Fundamentally iOS and iPadOS are the exact same operating system.
Same build number, same given version code names, same development timeline.
Of course there are differences currently between the iPhone and iPad, but when it comes down to the fundamental operating system, the only real difference is marketing.
Remember, even back in the day, the iPhone 6+ supported several iPad features like a landscape home screen, multi column landscape applications, etc.
Theoretically, all Apple has to do is change some feature flags, optimize for the new screen resolutions and that’s it.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has high expectations for Apple's first foldable iPhone.

In his Power On newsletter today, he said the foldable iPhone will be "the most significant overhaul in the iPhone's history."
really? I had no idea, so glad Gurman tells us so ... 😱

I'm very interested in a fold but have hard requirements:
FaceID
3 cameras on the back
and the current rumors don't support those, so the first version is not for me

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has high expectations for Apple's first foldable iPhone.

Apple-Foldable-Thumb.jpg

In his Power On newsletter today, he said the foldable iPhone will be "the most significant overhaul in the iPhone's history."

"iPhone 4, iPhone 6 and iPhone X were clearly a big deal, but this is a whole new design," he said.

Like Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7, the foldable iPhone will reportedly open up like a book, providing users with a large inner screen for watching videos, playing games, and multitasking. iOS 27 is expected to be optimized for the foldable iPhone, allowing for apps to be open side-by-side and for other iPad-like multitasking functionality.

A few months ago, a report said the foldable iPhone will be equipped with a 7.7-inch inner display, and a 5.3-inch outer display. It was initially rumored that the device would have a virtually "crease-free" inner display, but it was later reported that Apple is using technology that "reduces the crease without eliminating it entirely."

Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the foldable iPhone to have two rear cameras, one front camera, and a Touch ID power button instead of Face ID.

Apple will likely unveil the foldable iPhone in September this year, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. However, according to analyst Tim Long and Gurman, the foldable iPhone might ship later than the Pro models.

In the U.S., it has been estimated that the foldable iPhone may start at or above $1,999.

The iFold or iPhone Foldable is indeed the biggest or extremely major design of the phone Apple ever produced in the iPhone history. It is also the iPhone design revolution and evolution in the same time which will transform any iFold users how an iPhone will be used with iPad experience at the same time while unfolded. The form is very portable that can be pocketed. Such a marvelous extremely portable hybrid device combining the two most popular portable Apple products!! Looking forward to it!!❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍 this product will blow out foldable phone market and become the number one foldable in the foldable phone history!! Best quality foldable ever made!!

The multitasking on the iPad shows that Apple doesn't really know what it's doing. It's taken years with it still not being great, and they change it up with every iOS revision. Yes, Apple sold 6.1 million original iPhones, but >25% of that number was in 2017, so the vast majority waited 6+ months to buy it.

I don't care what people do, but I can personally think it's a bad idea, and vocalize it.

I'm sure this will be great, probably better than Samsung's current, BUT, I haven't been tempted at all. Maybe in the future. At the moment my S25 Edge is the one I want, even if I got fold or ultra free.

Huh?
This comment literally makes absolutely no sense.
Just because Apple has changed the multitasking paradigm several times does not mean that they have never “gotten it right”, what a silly statement.
Also the original iPhone went on sale on June 29, 2007, sold its first million units by September, and 4 million by that December. That’s a lot of people buying it in its first six months.
