Apple Preparing 'Most Significant Overhaul in the iPhone's History'

I find doing most work on my iPhone to be frustrating for lack of screen real estate and generally migrate to my laptop (very occasional) or my multi-monitor mini to do anything substantive. Especially with the disgraceful abominations of wasted space that are the “26” operating systems -all of them- I simply get very tired of the constant scrolling, swiping, pinching, etc needed to navigate a small rectangle, or even an iPad sized one.

To each their own… I will certainly look at a foldable iPhone but have a very hard time seeing the benefit for it to be in my world or in my pocket.

My phone is a convenience mostly, a distraction a lot of the time, an occasional tool (CarPlay is nice, and it does make and receive phone calls…) but for any work of a serious nature I’d rather get another 5k 27” screen for my desktop system for that price.

But, hey, as a stockholder, I hope the sell zillions of them

I can’t remember who said it but after the iPhone first got really big, someone said the company was big enough so they could afford a few flops. And it’s true, they can. If you don’t try stuff without fear of failure, you might as fold it in. Pun intended.

That’s not true. Some people will care. If it has a couple killer features, I’ll consider it. Let’s just hope there’s not a “creasegate.”

FLIP > FOLD

And even that’s not significant beyond novelty/gimmicky and pocketable size (those who mourn the loss of the Mini).

I’m infinitely more interested in a second generation non-gimped iPhone Air.

I mean, you don’t have to be interested in this form factor. How is it divisive? It’s not going to be the only form factor whereby Apple’s going to get rid of and cancel all other iPhones in lieu of this replacing them. At that point, then it would be divisive. LOL

What feature can it have? It’s just a bigger screen. Anything you can do with your iPad you will be able to do here
 
iPhone . Pro . SE . Air and soon Neo and Fold … Apple is getting a serious range now … I am intrigued with the Fold but I have a request no rumors are revealing which might come at a later date « a pencil - stylus » whatever you want to call it

But how heavy will it be, that’s what I wonder.

At the large size it should almost have the ability to run real macOS, connect to a screen via USB-C and then keyboard and mouse can be connected by Bluetooth as usual. Then one device can do the job of a phone and computer.

For many people that might be a big selling point. They may only buy a phone and not a computer also. Less to carry around.

I’m not going to buy the folding phone, the 17 pro max I have is good enough.

Unless I wanted to buy one and then destroy it on social media for clicks and ad revenue, which I wouldn’t because it’s stupid.

I’m in the same boat. Not interested at all. Maybe it will sell incredibly well - maybe it will absolutely tank🤷🏻‍♂️

So is pointing this out to us — more than 70 times now since September 26, 2019 (oldest I could find). Allow me to state this one time that routinely adulating anything new coming out of Apple is also a forum tradition. I promise, I will not repeat myself.

I have no issue with “It’s [iOS 26] refreshing design and looks great”. You share this sentiment with many and I believe all of you. In my view, refreshing a UI should not compromise legibility. Apple did good with 18, not so with 26.

Its amazing how people will pay double the money for this product, but the product is actually downgraded by ten years. From FaceID to TouchID, SE camera quality and a crease in the screen.

Marketing did good.

I think neither. I think it will sell in low volumes as would be expected for the phone class and price but not completely tank.
