iOS is what makes this whole device pointless. Unlike android, iOS is ridiculously restricted. What this foldable needs is a tablet version of macOS.
It certainly doesn't need that. It just needs good enough multitasking with great apps like they do now. That's one massive advantage they will have over all android foldables.

Reading these comments, you'd think there weren't already not only foldable phones, but highly praised and loved ones out there in the market. So you say today it's not for you -great. You do you (and your credit card when you're queued up to buy one despite the hate today). It is for a lot of other people.

Same with a touchscreen laptop. We shouldn't all be the same using the same thing. Didn't Google rip Apple on that for years, and rightfully so?

If anything, this is underwhelming because it's soooooooooooooooo behind at that point. Not one rumored feature isn't a complete copycat and even then, lagging behind what Samsung and others are already doing. Hoping for the old Apple magic where they copy and do it better - but it's been about a decade or so since they've done that, or really even had a genuinely new product.
While true they don't run iOS and that's what people prefer to use

One area where apple will be ahead is app optimization across the foldable line. Which will be massive for a bigger screen

Apple should have by all accounts one of the best camera for a foldable for the main camera at least if reports are correct. Samsung of the report of having pen support is correct.

Its amazing how people will pay double the money for this product, but the product is actually downgraded by ten years. From FaceID to TouchID, SE camera quality and a crease in the screen.

Marketing did good.
Face ID has it's downsides as well. It's certainly not a downgrade it's a side grade. Face ID is useless on a desk or table or night stand that's flat.

Camera wise just Telephoto that's missing and there isn't expected to be basically no crease so that will be a non factor

A foldable has many advantages over a slab phone so as an overall phone it will do many things better

The phone is not even out yet, and we already know it will be overpriced for what it is, and as usual, years behind competition. What a deal.

I am really looking for comparisons videos between “iPhone Fold” and actual foldable flagship like the Find N6 from Oppo.

fact check: we don't actually know anything yet

Not going to lie: I'll probably give it a go. If it blows my socks off I'll keep it, but I'll be critical, especially about the crease, battery life and cameras.

Curious...

It seems a friend of mine will pay anything to get this form factor, whereas for myself, I'm not interested in it at all. This form factor appears to be very divisive.
People can have differencing of opinion without being "divisive", seems that buzzword is used far too often lately.

I'm interested in an iPhone Mini with Pro-Quality camera. Or an Air with pro-quality camera. For reading, browsing, using AI agents, calls and messages, I just don't need a lot of real estate. The killer feature for the pro iPhone is always just the camera system. For everything else I'd prefer smaller and lighter anytime.
For real work I use the Mac. And for writing with a pen I use a remarkable or paper. For dictating I use Wispr Flow. So no need for more space just to use the keyboard more easily either.
I certainly don't want something that makes it even easier to spend more time on device. On the contrary. It's supposed to do the minimum things necessary to stay productive, purchase train tickets, look up some things if required, use maps, take pictures or listen to podcasts. Not more.

They seem to be ok boxing in on the iPad? Neo eating at the Pad with Magic Keyboard sales on one end and this taking on the iPad mini. I just traded my Mini in towards a Neo as I was not personally using it and my M2 Air iPad 13 with Magic Keyboard
This has me wondering how many general public iPhone users have been getting along without a laptop or an iPad, but will buy a Neo and realize the benefits of doing stuff on a 13" screen with a keyboard.

I would kill for an iPhone mini with the pro camera package. They made it with the basic camera package and that fell below my minimum tech threshold for a phone.

My only reason for upgrading phones now is the camera package. And the color Orange. I would have passed on the 17Pro if not for Orange. Will most likely pass on the 18 and the fold for ME is a problem in search of a solution.

I don’t believe in a “one device” that will solve for all the use cases. It just never has so far. Though I have seen a lot of those “one device” that performs at best mediocrely at all the use cases.

I have no issue with “It’s [iOS 26] refreshing design and looks great”. You share this sentiment with many and I believe all of you. In my view, refreshing a UI should not compromise legibility. Apple did good with 18, not so with 26.

Zero issues with legibility here with iOS 26. Everything is nice and sharp, and easy to read with just a quick glance. As it should be.

So is pointing this out to us — more than 70 times now since September 26, 2019 (oldest I could find). Allow me to state this one time that routinely adulating anything new coming out of Apple is also a forum tradition. I promise, I will not repeat myself.

While you're at it, please research and report back the number of times Apple get's slagged with the release of new products, going back to when Jobs introduced iPod, with all of negative assessments (ie, "Who asked for a thousand songs in your pocket") here.

What feature can it have? It’s just a bigger screen. Anything you can do with your iPad you will be able to do here
Not true. We don't know yet how they'll present the use case. Will it have multitasking with side by side apps? I'm looking for Apple to do something really interesting and useful here beyond what is expected. I'm also hoping for Apple Pencil support, but I doubt we'll get that on the 1st gen. More than that, I'm looking for a really compelling, unforeseen feature that would make it a must buy over a new Pro Max.

Who asked for the Vision Pro or iPhone Air?

Not many apparently, as they are both total flops in the market.

Straight up Tim Cook nose dives.

I'm the same. I understand the appeal, especially for people who only really have a phone for internet access, but I myself would rather have a smaller, lighter phone as I'm trying to spend less time on my phone.

I’m uncertain whether any $2000 phone could succeed in this economic climate. The success or failure might have more to do with the price of gas than the device itself.

If times are tight, the iPhone 17 is a very capable and much cheaper option.

I'm extremely interested in the foldable iPhone, if it is more powerful (in terns of connectivity, processor capabilities, and storage options) than the "Pro Max" model. A foldable phone would be a huge benefit to me just for the larger screen size.
