Is that it for you then, you've drawn a line under technology in 2024 and no more further enhancements past this?

I feel my Dad did the same in about 1979 with the calculator, he allowed and learnt that and then he drew a line under it there and decided that was enough.

I draw the line at Sam Altman. If is he is affiliated, I avoid it like the plague. He is the epitome of vile techbro BS and a grifter.

I see, I mean, if we're ruling technology or companies out because of members of staff we're going to get restrictive pretty quickly, most of them are utter ****holes.

He's not a "member of the staff", he is the CEO.

That still makes him an employee of the company. I just wasn't restricting it to CEOs, there's lots of them.

I honestly just try to ignore these people as much as possible, I know quite little about him and I like that way, I know too much about Musk and I wish it was easier to ignore him to be honest.

I wonder if widespread availability of AI via the Apple ecosystem will begin to let the air out the AI bubble. People will be to use it and see that it is really just a parlor trick.
I don’t understand what people like you do, but for me it’s really revolutionary. It’s like a talkin google. Let’s put an example, I want to know which iPhone is better and why. What would you need to do? You would have to google it, click on an article, read the article and find what you are looking for. And then if you another question you have to google it again and hopefully find an article that answers it.

With ChatGPT though you just have to ask him, and you can keep asking things and it will look the articles for you and give you the answer that you want.

I now pay $20.00 monthly for ChatGPT Plus. I wonder if I cancel the app subscription if will I get the same features. Any input? Thanks

It's time to give Siri's little peanut brain a rest after many years of faithful substandard service. Ride out into that sunset Siri. You served mediocrely.
Siri works good for setting alarms, timers, and it occasionally tells me the right temperature outside. It’s fairly good at asking some famous person’s age. It’s terrible at lighting and etc in the house. My 15 Pro Max just started not playing music when I ask. I used to say Siri play “(example) Maroon 5“ now I have to say “Siri, use Apple Music to play music by Maroon 5.“ It’s been pretty disappointing. The ChatGPT feature just means that OpenAI has our info and will use it, and Apple doesn’t seem to care. And before anyone says no it runs on the iPhone that’s why it needs 8GB of RAM - false. Apple’s implementation is not running ChatGPT 4o from your iPhone but the cloud.

It isn’t handing off to chatGPT unless you tell it to. Which is ironically why this feature is garbage.

A great feature? I go into Settings and put Siri in the trash and empty it and replace it with ChatGPT and Advanced Voice Mode which together is around 400 billion times better than Siri could ever be.

Nope, you will still need that for all the real stuff. I pay the $20 per month and I think it’s a bargain for what you get. Apple is just connecting and sending data to them to give us better results. In time, maybe you could get the same thing, but I think Apple will be charging us by then for the “feature” as that’s Tim’s model - grow services whether customers are happy or not. I suspect we will have to start paying for satellite communication soon too. It said when the original version came out, free for two years. I think Apple will eventually charge for everything. I have the One Subscription, and I really don’t think it’s worth it. AppleTV and storage on iCloud are all I use. And AppleTV is sort of like Netflix, could just have it a few months of the year and be happy.

It’s not a parlor trick - it’s definitely useful for a number of practical purposes. But it’s not Data from Star Trek or whatever science fiction idea people think it is. I just hope Apple is able to drive more focus to on-device implementations, which are private and don’t require the use of giant energy sucking datacenters. Why use a 500B model and the hardware and energy it requires, when a 3B model does what you need?
It will be far better than Data from Star Trek within 5 years time. Enjoy the last few years where humans have the greatest intelligence on Earth

Does anyone else think society will end up being so dumb that we will not need anything if this AI revolution wins out? There was a movie where a guy wakes up in the future and everyone is stupid. In the movie, the guy says you cannot give the plants gatorade they need water. I feel like that’s where we are headed. We will all ask AI to tell us how to water the plants. Anyone know what movie I am talking about? I used to know the name of it, but I asked Siri to figure it out and she didn’t know. I am counting on crowdsourcing due to my own stupidity.

"Idiocracy" started out as a dystopian comedy, but it's become a documentary.
And I highly recommend reading the book it's based on.
