No space and it costs extra plus I doubt Apple likes having dual GPUs in Mini (another might be disabled though)

Thats not true. The original Mac mini had a Radeon 9200 in it. It had the entire chipset. CPU, GPU, north bridge, south bridge, audio chip.. Theres more than enough room in the Mac mini for a dedicated GPU and CPU.

Dear God (AKA Steve Jobs)
Please let this mean that i can have Blu-Ray on my Mac's.

1- Macbook Pro with BD, HDMI output. so i can enjoy on a big screen while on the road, or do presentations on regular tv's with hdmi. (even backup to BD disc, cause when doing HD movies and lots of pics on road, i would love to have that ability
2- Mini- with BD and HD, could be great.
3- Mac Pro - where i can author to BD

For the love of God Apple, esata, esata, esata.

But eSATA isn't a hot-plug interface. eSATA drives must be on before the computer is and not turned off or unplugged until the computer is shut down.

Can you imagine all the complaints from people who suddenly can't see their data because the external drive became ready a millisecond too late? How about all the corrupted data from people turning off external drives while their Mac is sleeping?

Much as I'd like the low cost and high speed of eSATA, Apple can't afford to ship any interface that isn't foolproof.

@mosx

I've already debunked you HDMI-endorsing DP-failing crap in many other threads in the past, stop it.

HDMI is just DVI on steroids plus audio, DP allows for a whole new (better) way of building displays and internal communications and it's going to be the new standard of INTERNAL and EXTERNAL video communications in COMPUTERS. Back in 2008, if ONE port had to be chosen, it HAD to be DP and 2008-MBP users will be grateful for having such a future-proof interface in advance.

Users from 2008 with HDMI+VGA ports won't be able to use a 2560x1600 DP monitor... (unless they get a free replacement of their laptop with a new hdnm1.3 laptop, if they exist and if hdmi1.3 2560x1600 monitors exist, btw can you point to one? HDMI 1.3 smells like vaporware in the COMPUTER space...)

Maybe Congress could give the internet service providers a bailout to make our internet faster.

What I'm waiting for to replace my Home Theater Mac Mini (which also doubles as my home server) is Blu-ray. Once you go HD, you never go back, and so I haven't bought a regular DVD in over two years.

If it's going to hook into my home entertainment system, it has to be able to play the media I own, "bag of hurt" or not. Apple is damaging themselves in this market with exactly the same crowd they appeal to in the first place: those who are willing to pay a bit more for great quality.

The HDMI port is so pointless since I just picked up a MONSTER DVI to HDMI cable for 8 bucks, and plan to have the audio come from the audio port

I bought the 40GB :apple:TV about two years ago. For what it is for me (basically just an iTunes front end) I haven't regretted the decision at all. It's a simple way to get music to my receiver and I can control it with my receiver's remote. Pair it with Boxee and I have a simple, fairly capable, media center.

HDMI would be one thing to take them to the next level. And one less thing for people to complain about. Would be great in the iMac's, not sure if I would use it, but still be nice as an option, as I use a 23" monitor for my PS3 and 360 at the moment anyway.

HDMI wouldnt take them to the next level. It'd take them to the "its about time" level. PCs have been shipping with HDMI ports for years now.

Forgive the ignorance, but what does HDMI enable one to do that can't be done already?
It carries sound and video digitally together.

Yes, you can do that with Mini DisplayPort, but none of the TVs I own support it. (And the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI converters do not carry sound, by the way). Alternatively you can output video with DVI and sound with S/PDIF but in my case it requires that the audiosystem and TV are configured separately since the TV doesn't have S/PDIF-in.

I don't understand how this can be voted negative. If this happens in the next iMac revision, and hypothetically, Apple decides to use a 5000 series Radeon video card on the high end iMacs, literally everything will finally be considered "high end" on the "high end" iMacs, which is where most of the criticism against Apple lies.

The only thing I would be left to complain about would be lack of USB 3.0, given that a major refresh sometime this year would last into Q4 2010, in which case many new peripherals will support it.

On that note, I would be somewhat upset if the new iPhone does not support USB 3.0 connectivity, having an iMac refresh coincide with its' release.

Works the same for me. Have fun though.

In other words, there is nobody in your home who will complain about adapters lying around and hiding them into places where you won't find them if you need them, and nobody who will complain about two cables being plugged into the TV that interfere with the serene quality of the living room

This is why I could never get on board with AppleTV. My computer/laptop should be able to cover this functionality... it just needs HDMI to connect easily.

I'm seeing this is a special version of the Mac Mini rather than standard. Maybe the AV Mac Mini or something.

Of course we'd all love to see a Mac Mini that was proportioned more like a cube, with a regular sized HD, openable case, expansion slot, and real graphics card, but that's not ever going to happen.

And yeah, the look of it IS a bit outdated. A black chrome top and black plastic bits would help rectify that.

Apple finally realised that the Mini Display Port is a huge failure and that the only thing that you can plug into it is the "Mini Display Port to VGA adapter". I think it's about time they put HDMI into macs, although I think it's too late now...

AHCI would like to have a word with you. My internal hard drives on SATA are hot swappable. Not that I would do so.

eSATA makes the Nehalem based iMacs a Mac Pro killer for many people. That shows how bad things have gotten. FireWire 800 is ancient for a paltry 100 MB/s on a single channel.

The mention of the MCP89 should raise some eyebrows. Anyone up for more rounds of Core 2 Duo?

The past is the future...

Back in the 80's, most computers didn't have monitors. They looked like big keyboards with a video out port to hook up to a TV.
Adding an HDMI out to a Mac Mini is brilliant but it is what the future of real portability is, IMO. The new LCD's are amazing and at full 1080p they will eventually replace the computer Monitors... They are cheaper and bigger and can be used to watch TV as well.
I said it about a year ago. My idea is to have a stand alone screen-less Mac Book Pro with an HDMI out. A true "portable" computer that you can use at home or take to a friend's. It won't replace a Mac Book since it has no screen but it won't need an external keyboard or mouse since it already has them.
Mac Mini HD Price: $599...

Love my :apple:TV, but if this is true, I'll be selling it and picking one of these puppies up, along with a bluetooth keyboard and mighty mouse. :D

die mini-display port. die.

If you notice on that "image". It has HDMI and mini-displayport.

Mini-displayport isn't going to die. It's original purpose was to connect to an Apple display w/mini-displayport. Connecting HDMI to any new Apple Display would be useless since HDMI carries 5.1 audio and the 24" Display only has 2.1 speakers.

I think Apple is finally ready to pay the piper for that "bag of hurt".

*Parks his Harley next to a MacRumors crowd* Well, ain't this just the cat's meow. Honestly.... I will believe it when I see it. I find it HIGHLY unlikely that HDMI will be added to macs this year. Hope I'm wrong kiddos. But I wouldn't keep my hopes up. It just sounds too good to be true. It's always "Wait until the next revision! Wait! It's gonna have blu-ray and HDMI and it'll make me breakfast and rub my feet and do my homework for me!!" And then comes the new macs! Oh look!... They added an SD card slot... Yay. Don't believe the hype. I call BS on this one. *Rides away*
