Even as Apple is continuing to seed builds of OS X 10.8.1 to developers in order to address some of the most significant issues with the initial release version of OS X Mountain Lion, the company has already notified some users that it is preparing to begin seeding builds of OS X 10.8.2 for testing.
Join us for 10.8.2!

You are invited to participate in the next Mountain Lion Software Update seed project, 10.8.2. Apple will provide you with the pre-release software. Once builds are available, we ask that you install and test each build to help us make sure that this is a high quality release!

While Apple is likely moving fairly quickly on OS X 10.8.1 in order to deliver fixes for major issues to users as quickly as possible, the company may spend more time on OS X 10.8.2 to address other issues that require attention but which are not of as critical importance.

I hope Siri is integrated in Mountain Lion sometime in the near future. It would be a very helpful feature in my opinion.

I'm gonna guess this is the Facebook integration payload which needs to be tested separately from 10.8.1.

Nope, FB is a separate install which has been available to developers since before 10.8 was released. Probably just fixes that were lower priority than what made it into the .1 release.

Im sure 10.8.1 will be release today or tomorrow.;)

I suspect one more quick beta and a release soon after that. The last .1 beta still had "TBA" in the installer text.

I'd imagine that means 10.8.1 is in a golden state so that they could begin to develop off of it. Wouldn't want to build a beta off a beta!

My guess is that with Apple moving towards a yearly Mac OS X release cycle, we're going to see less features in 10.x.x releases. 10.8.1, 10.8.2...will be used mainly for maintenance type stuff while true enhancements and features will be saved for the 10.x releases themselves.

That's what developers do all day, every day.

It's called a fork or a branch - and you can have multiple 'forks' or 'branches' of a project, and you merge them together for a release.

Someone violated their NDA..... Again, as usual.

I'd imagine there's at least one more build of 10.8.1. Latest build isn't GM.

Being a new Mac user, how is one notified? Do I have to manually check?

Oh im one of Apple's Ex's  and After being tuned into every Mac and IOS update release you just tend to have strong instincts. #LoyalAppleFan
