Nope, FB is a separate install which has been available to developers since before 10.8 was released.

It's available to developers via a separate install at the moment because developers need it to test integration with their apps, but Apple will bundle it with a point upgrade. Almost certainly 10.8.2. By bundling it with a point upgrade, Apple only need worry about one release, for support and distribution. All point upgrades are made using Apple's app installer mechanism under the hood anyway. Apple are currently distributing 10.8.1 using this mechanism.

Any chance 10.8.2 adds support for running iOS apps?

Not a chance. Apple couldn't even if they wanted to. iOS apps are built specifically for ARM processors, so would run unbearable slowly on desktop processors. Also, Apple's been careful to separate apps built for touch devices and desktop. They're not going to break that.

Without breaking NDA I will just say... why not wait and just release 10.8.1 and 10.8.2 at the same time and do it right. The bleeding edge Mac releases as of late have been more harm than good. Take 10.7. All those releases before 10.7.4 were nothing more than damage control. Hopefully, we'll get some solutions with 10.8.1 GM or 10.8.2.

Emulation on a quad core i7 Ivy Bridge or 4.8 GHz Sandy Bridge would be slow? (Actually curious.)

Wrong idea.

This is already starting to happen, if you think about it. What would be great is an even further "universal" app, where purchasing "Pages" on iOS will also mean your Mac gets the "Pages" app, so you don't have to pay twice for essentially the same app. For example, Angry Birds for Mac. Nobody wants to pay again for the same damn application.

The execution is taking ages.

I hope Siri is integrated in Mountain Lion sometime in the near future. It would be a very helpful feature in my opinion.

The potential for unfortunate results including data loss is WAY too great for me to enable something like that. Siri on my phone hears me wrong at least 40% of the time.

There are issues (battery especially) that need to be addressed sooner than later on certain systems. 10.8.2 needs a lot more testing and improving, because I guarantee a Facebook integration here. Earliest release for 10.8.2 is late September at the very earliest, most likely October. Which is most likely why they sent out the invitations so early even before the previous seed is finished.... The process to get registered and invites takes time...

Starting as early as possible on testing is desirable, especially with (theoretical) new products coming next month.

Hence the "Beta" status, and the need for an external server just to use Siri.

I don't doubt a Siri integration in a future release, but it's far off (integration possibly evident especially with the recent slight hardware tweaks in recent Macbooks).

I really hope they address the wi-fi issue on 10.8.2... That the Automator thingy and the urge to sleep that is so pointless on desktops yet still there unable to disable.

dictation is already there in ML.. Double click the FN key. Not full Siri, but enough.

Looks like it's only for people who pay the $99/year to be a developer. Darn, I was hoping for a free copy of Mountain Lion :(

...

Something tells me usually when Apple sees (or pushes) two OS updates close together like this it means they stuffed up with the first one.

I guess by seeding 10.8.2 now, while 10.8.1 isn't public yet, Apple can cover their tracks (much like what happen with iLife and the original Iphoto would not open, and Apple quickly pushed out an update.)

In any case, I sure hope (if they haven't done already) Apple would have *fixed* this over energy saving, as its not behaving as expected, and/or behaving more than it should.

I'm seriously thinking this is more of an firmware update, then just 10.8, as it goes to sleep/puts hard drives to sleep even when outside the OS. (aka when booted from install media).....

btw: although Facebook integration would be good. IOS has it, and since the Mac is getting much the same stuff nowadays, why not ? Maybe, in a form of a widget, or something... recoded of course to work on the Mac.

I'm putting it at a 90% chance we'll have to wait till osx 10.9 before this happens. Sorry.

Nope... this program isn't for paid developers. You wouldn't get Mountain Lion free for testing 10.8.1 or 10.8.x. You must already have Mountain Lion to test those.

or iBooks.

Missing the ability to have my iBooks on my computers and mobile devices is one of the largest barriers for me to actually use iBooks.

I could never really pass myself to see the difference between Siri and dictation.

Couldn't Apple just have expanded dictations ability to Internet use vs needing another one called "Siri" just for this in addition ?

preview

i find it odd that you can store Preview files in icloud but have no means of accessing them on iOS, wonder what that is about
