Since installing 10.6.3 on my iMac, the machine has run 10 - 15 C hotter, plus I can't open my CS3 apps due to Apple changing how the serial number is accessed along with the number of alpha/numeric characters allowed - 12 or less (logic board was replaced 6 months ago and of course the ss no is 13 characters).

I wonder what special goodies 10.6.4 is going to bring???

Yes, Apple is preparing a developer release of 10.6.4...

We know this because 10.6.3 is out.

Did anyone think '.3 was going to be the last version of 10.6?

I have Mac OS X 10.4.11. I remember thinking that 10.4.9 was going to be the last version :)

Is this likely just bug fixes, or feature adds?

I don't think there was ever a feature pack release in a .x.x updates, as far as I am aware.

So most likely 10.6.4 will be mainly bug fixes with some APIs clean ups/additions, Apple added the H.264 Hardware-Accelerated Decode API in 10.6.3. Also most likely to be released in June near the iPhone release with another iTunes update.

I don't think 10.7 will be a DP preview this summer but due to the nature of 10.6, it might be out faster if Apple's just focusing on front end changes like GUI.

I remember a Tiger minor update that had the snow dashboard widget and a redisigned calendar widget ;)

You crazy kids and your OS X, back in my day all we had was OS 7.6.1 and that was the way we liked it!

Well, 7.6.1 was a great system, what was not to like :).

As for 10.6.4 ... I guess my reports finally got through to them and they will fix the iTunes dashboard widget bugs. I kid, I kid, those bugs are 6 years old now, they will never be fixed.

I use Mac OS 7.5.3 Revision 2 in SheepShaver (a PowerPC emulator) on a MacBook Pro. Great little OS. Has only crashed once in about 3 months :)

OpenGL 3.3 support in 10.6.4?
I think we'd be making good progress if we finally make it to OpenGL 3.0 which is still not complete in 10.6.3. OpenGL 3.3 support is unlikely since neither ATI or nVidia have released official mainline drivers for it on Windows and Linux only developer releases. It'd be amazing if Apple could release GPU drivers to support new features faster than the manufacturers themselves.

Bug fixes, compatibility fixes, etc, new features are almost never added in a 10.x.x release.
So can we start the speculation and guessing as to what will be in 10.7 already ??!! :D

I'll start us off on a few lol

* Full resolution independence (or at least an option to enable it for now)
.
YES.
I sometimes wonder what are they gonna do after 10.9.9... OS XI?
Either 10.9.10 or 10.10 or 11.0 (IMO, we won't see 11.0 for a really long time). Keep in mind that Tiger went all the way up to 10.4.11, they don't have to stop at a .9. Also, in WWDC 2005 Steve jobs said that OSX would last them 20 years, can be seen here, 1:08 mark

I'll start us off on a few lol

* Full resolution independence (or at least an option to enable it for now)
* Column view in the bottom of Cover Flow for the Finder.
* 3rd Party software update for approved applications.
* Updates to under-the-hood stuff like CUPS, Webkit, Core____
* Quicktime 7 features implemented in Quicktime X (dropping Quicktime 7)
* Snappier Safari :p (and a checkbox that enables/disables flash)
* Better language management so you can slim down the size of apps and remove unneeded language packs.

Each time Apple has released an update to an OS, I then gave some 'helpful' adivce that they should include SANE and why it would be awesome... Linux fanboy style. :D
