I've got to be honest: i like my glossy MBP. I think the screen is tremendously improved, and sure I see a glossy shadow of things behind me occasionally, but it isn't distracting (I also sit in a room with fluorescent light, go figure). I for one would welcome a glossy ACD, but they shouldn't charge more to make it matte, either.

I'm still very interested in the CinemaView monitor. The specs are not quite as good as Apple's, but it's a HECK of a lot cheaper. I think it's worth the trade-off.

And they're designed to look "mac-like" without being actual copies of Apple's displays. They also have the display port connection.

I don't need a new monitor right now, but I'll be keeping my eye on these guys if I ever do.

But they're ugly compared!

Dell wants $1100 for their comparable UltraSharp U2711 27-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor, so I would imagine the ACD 27" will be around, say $1399-1499 and Apple will likely phase out the ACD 30".

I never said at the conference. Just around that time frame in april. I think NAB is April 11 or something. Either way we will know soon enough.

Yeah, but why would the time matter if you're not going to be there?

And we don't really know anything about the next Final Cut. They just came out with the last one last year and they tend to be 2 or more years apart.

BUT the last one was a minor update, they're obviously working on a real re-write that Final Cut needs to go from Carbon to 64-bit cocoa. So who knows when THAT will be finished?

Point is, anything Final Cut related is a complete and total guess at this point. There is really no information to base any guesses on right now.

I finally gave up waiting for new large cinema displays last year and bought a used one rather than continuing to wait. I would have been highly annoyed if they came out with new large displays right after my purchase, but at this point I'm glad they are finally back in the ring.

Wait... Apple still makes computers??

This one must be phoney rumour.... although Apple holding off for another 4 months before updating any of their computer products does seem to give it a bit of credibility.

Lol. These rumours are hilarious. I think I've seen one claiming that the Mac Pro will be out for each month in 2010 from Jan-June. I suppose eventually one of these fake rumours will be true.

Honestly, i know a rumour is just a rumour.. but this is getting ridiculous, these reports are just so vague and made up, quoting "sources ____ apple"

I think them coming out in June is no more likely than them coming out tomorrow.

Interesting. At $499 not bad, although I got the 24" ACD for $799 with a student discount. At first I thought it was a terrible aesthetic rip off of Apple design, but I give them a lot of credit for filling a void left by Apple's neglect. I also appreciate this feature:

Rear panel located pushbutton on-off switch

Something so small but NECESSARY as the 24" model doesn't even have an on/off switch at the previous ACD models (although I realize it's meant for Apple's notebook line, Apple sells the ATI Radeon HD card with a mini-displayport for their Mac Pro line AND as they sell the 24" displays with Mac Pro's, it should have been an included "feature").

Mac's a fast enough as they are seriously there isn't much difference from a mac with 2gb to a mac with 4gb to a mac with 8gb of ram..

I like my computers to look awesome of my desk, with my iphones and ipods :D

An iPad is a tablet computer!

So stop saying "Does apple still make computers?"

An iPAD is an 9 inch ipod touch, not a computer. Can I do architectural drafting and renderings on a 9-inch ipod touch? Some of us buy Apple products for work..not just because they are shiny and "magical"

By June for Mac Pro lol, don't want them to rush. Take your time Apple, how about by December?

It can be used for work, it just depends what line of work you do ;)

Nice but...

... probably glossy and just one displayport

I forgot about that point. Display-port connections can be daisy-chained, which the 24" LED LCD currently doesn't support (one of the many reasons that Apple adopted the display/mini-display port). I was very surprised Apple has yet to adopt that crucial advantage.

Yet, it can be argued that the iPhone/iPod Touch ARE computers :).

NO thats too late. I looking to buy one at around June so this would be perfect for me. Maybe then Light peak will also be in full swing. Mass production was suppose to have started in early 2010.

Superdrives!

Wow. Apple making computers and computer displays. What a novel concept.

Still nowhere near cutting edge, but no one will notice those superdrives until they try to put a Blu-ray in.

:apple:

The Superdrives are horrible! All of them. Why did the one in my 2006 macbook die. Why won't a new 21" iMac read 1/2 my dvd's when an external drive is fine with it. What is so super about these drives?

Agree and disagree

FINALLY. It's about time. Aside from the 24" LED LCD Apple launched in 2008 for their notebook line, the ACD's haven't been fully refreshed since 2003. The 30" ACD CCFL LCD is a good display, but not in todays market especially given that LED backlit panels are becoming more commonplace.
The long delay here is certainly an issue. For this particular monitor though I'd have to say that the delay might have been caused by some of the same issues seen on the iMacs display. In other words while cost might have been an issue working out the bugs may have been a problem too given iMacs recent history.
I hope Apple does refresh their "Pro" line, they need to recommit to their high end user base that has long been a game player in Apple "computer's".
This is the hostile attitude I really disagree with. The processors just debuted earlier this week. I just think it is amazing that people think Apple can pull these processors out of thin air. Saddly it is an attitude seen far to much on this forum. The Mac Pros will come when Apple has all of it's ducks in a row. The processor is just one of those ducks.

Not called the Apple cult for nothing...

so it's freakin glossy? failure.. I wouldn't buy it anyways though.

Steve-o's office at Apple is a windowless garrett where NO natural light EVER shines, and he keeps the electric lights off too, lighting his screen with a single candle placed BEHIND the screen. Yes it does happen to be a red candle, but that doesn't mean anything...

As Steve-o never sees ANY reflections on HIS jackass glossy screen, so you will not either, or else!

Paint your windows black!! Turn off all overhead lights to your rear, ye even the lights in front of you too, or throughout your entire office complex! Light your screen with a single red candle BEHIND it as Steve-o does, or banish thee yourself from Apple products, forevermore!!!

And Steve-o help and have mercy on you if you so much as bring a Blu-ray into the office or surf a website with flash in His holy presence...
