Apple has bet the farm with the new iPad so don't see anything new coming out of Apple before May at least. It's just good marketing, if they release any new products they risk cannibalizing their iPad sales.

Right, because someone might buy a $3,000 Mac Pro desktop or 27 inch monitor when they originally wanted a 9inch ipod touch / maxipad.

Hey guys check out this link my friend just sent me. WARNING: THIS IS FAKE ITS NOT REAL AND I'M NOT TROLLING. THIS IS FOR YOU MACBOOKPRO PEOPLE OUT THERE:

and maybe apple will put it in these new 27 inch displays.

I like the nvidia logo - optimistic!

I assume these will be more expensive than the current 24 inch models? I am all for having a nice display, but 900 bucks for a 24 inch screen is already pushing it.

acting as if it's happening today. It's just ANOTHER RUMOR. And even if true, it isn't until JUNE!

No, but new monitors are long over due for an update. Simple as that.

And yes if it were true, it wouldn't be until June.

Either way I have been waiting a long time to replace my studio display.

June would mean either doing something that "revolutionary" ( something other than CPU or current standard interfaces ) that didn't quite work right or some other major change. If Apple is throwing the MacPro announcement under the bus to align with LightPeak that is kind of whacked (from the consumer perspective). I could see them trying to do that though. It isn't necessary since could just sell some sort of LightPeak PCI-e card. Doesn't have to be built onto the motherboard if having birthing pains.

I think even June is way to early to adopt lightPeak, however, possibly usb3.0 by then isn't too far fetched. There also may be some testing delays due to the recent issues with the 27" imacs etc, that they are in no hurry to repeat. I don't think the ipad launch has anything to do with this. The iphone 4 is expected to launch in June.

It's all about grabbing the undivided attention of the tech press. Nothing must interfere with the iPad. There must be nothing else "Apple" to write about through April.

New 27" monitor

OK. I'm the Pro that this is aimed at.

I will NOT buy a glossy screen. Period. I have a problem with the 27" iMac that I just bought - I cannot dim the screen to match what my big printers will be printing. The LCDs are too bright.

If Apple can make a non-glare 27" monitor that I can calibrate to match my printers, I'll buy one - otherwise I'll stick with NECs.

This makes a lot of sense. The sooner the better.

They've got to reduce prices, too, right?

At the moment, the 27" iMac is such a better deal than the Mac Pro. You really, really have to have a need for the expandibiliy or 8/16 cores to justify the hugh cost increase.

What are you talking about? Bananas are cruncy, just get really greens ones...oh sorry, off topic...yeah, I'd buy a second 27" monitor to go with my 27" iMac.

The 24" LED LCD is $899 (as I stated) so no way they would place the 27" LED LCD any where near that price point.

It should be less then a 27" iMac and more then a 24" Cinema Display. I wouldn't be surprised to see a drop on the 24" though. I'm guessing $1200 - $1300. Just take 400-500 dollars off of the 27" iMac. I'd be tempted just to by the iMacs as screen though. The CPUs could be render nodes or fileservers or something.

Since you know Apples upgrade cycles from the past, you also know that Apple got pre release Xeons in the past,

Not really "pre-release" as access to the same source as what everyone else would get access to slight eariler in the process. Primarily because Apple's unit request supply would be substantially smaller than everyone else.

Notice how they announced already shipped many thousands of these already. Most more mainstream vendors need a stockpile because the public release date so that can keep up with demand. Apple tends to price things high enough they tap down demand themselves.

and even anounced a new Mac Pro line before Intels announcement in the past.

Certainly didn't hurt Intel to have multiple waves to the Xeon announcement last year. Apple intros. Folks benchmark and comment on web and elsewhere. Intel intros again ( all of the significant HP/Dell consumers enterprise customers fully briefy by NDA already so nothing in Apple's release is unknown to them. )

you might also know that some businesses might care for VALUE for their MONEY. Something that the Mac Pro right now doesn't offer.

Depends upon what you are using it for. I think what the discussion gets twisted on these boards is that folks advocate that their "value function " is more important that any others, not so much that the machines don't have a value. Lots of folks would toss some of the features that Apple puts a value on under to bus for lower pricing. That is a value assignment disconnect, not a lack of value. Similarly as going into the mid/upper range of MacPros they did to do quite well. Again is the folks at the bottom edge looking in who are much more vocal on these boards.

at last!

Took Apple long enough I have been waiting for new displays, and a new Mac Pro. Of course I need to learn more about these displays, and the cost before I choose an Apple Display over another. Except I am one of those people who like everything to match up. Plus I like my dad's Imac display, so easy sell... hopefully (if the right price).

The Macbook Pros release is going to correlate to the new displays release.

The Mac Pro is going to be released before June, within the next three weeks.

As for displays, I picked up a 3008WFP by Dell on eBay three months ago. It was 850, it was a sealed refurbished one with a one year warranty.

Amazing deal. It's got:

2560x1600 Res
PC connected to Dualink DVI
Mac connected to the other Duallink DVI
PS3 hooked up to the HDMI
Wii hooked up to the component

Exactly. That's very important to Apple. If the updates haven't happened by now they will necessarily wait until well after the iPad release.

I'm very interested. What models of NEC monitors have worked out the best for you?

We will have the mbp's update at wwdc, like the mac pro and display cinema.

We have wait 102~106 days. :(:(:(

At least here in Burlingame, CA the ACD has almost vanished from the Apple store. Used to be a half dozen or so on display, now there is only one.

YAYAYAYAY ABOUT TIME!!! :D

NOW, can we get 64bit, Cocoa, Grand Central, Open CL Final Cut Studio now so we can actually UTILIZE all of this power Apple PLEAAAASSSEEEE?!?!?! :(

Intel is supposed to release a refresh of the cpu's they just released in august. Maybe July. Maybe apple is just going to wait for the refresh. It's a die shrink and fixing some bugs.

I have a feeling it's going to be an eventful WWDC this year. ;)

Anyone think they'll include a built in SD card reader on the 27" ACD like the iMac?

I ask this because the Dell U series Ultrasharps have built in SD card readers.

Isn't the 27-inch iMac display exactly the same as the Dell U2711, meaning same manufacturer (LG, as I recall)?

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?sku=224-8284

The Dell even has a Mac-friendly DisplayPort connector. Not to mention a ton of other connections (hdmi, 2xdvi, component, bunch of USBs, card reader, speaker attachment, etc.). More than the Apple version is likely to have.

OK, it's plastic, not metal. And the Apple one will have a little camera. But Dell frequently lowers their prices, so this is likely to realistically sell for under $1000 very soon.

I can't see Apple pricing theirs at more than $1200, especially when for $1700 you can get a the same screen attached to a computer with $200 of RAM and a $140 wireless keyboard/mouse and $129 1TB hard drive and a $129 operating system and $79 iLife and a $99 printer to boot.

It already does. My friend got his for 800. Just call them...
