Anyone else notice that the 'Gap' for the new bumper for the mute switch is slightly narrower than the old one?

It's already quite difficult to toggle the mute switch, if that gap is narrower, it will be even more difficult.

IMO, they def moved the button to not allow the new phone to get the "hand me down" bumpers. Now they made a new one, ppl will have to purchase the new style if they want one for the ViPhone. Very smart for them to recoup some money on it. (From a business perspective)

I highly doubt apple would redesign their hardware simply to make people pay for a new case.
I don't think those people will even be switching soon as their phone is only 6 months old. And would apple really make more money off of this? I don't think so considering thats another seperate product to manufacture.

Why compatibility?

Why would they need to be compatible in first place? How many people would swap a case from an ATT phone to a Verizon one before they buy another case?

Bumper or pocket lint?

How about making a bumper that uses a soft inside so that it doesn't scratch the iPhone 4! I would stay away from the Apple bumpers guys...they'll ruin the metal on the outside of your phone.

That doesn't look like scratches caused by the bumper, that looks like problems because of crap caught under the bumper.

Why bother making a new bumper if the dock connector opening is still the same tiny cut-out? That's the weakest point of the Apple bumper!

I think it's the added thickness of the bumper that makes it difficult to dock to peripherals and not really the size of the opening. The issue with audio out is one of size or thickness. It works fine with the provided ear buds, but the male part of external speaker cables is often surrounded by thicker rubber. I think it’s silly to have to remove the bumper in order to play music on a proper sound system.

because then they only need to make 1 case, not 2 and you won't have to ask for the case in the apple store based on a carrier, just the iPhone4

Hands on with new iPhone 4 for verizon bumper.

Wohooaa!!!

Not a big deal for most of us but just trying to understand that apple has become soo big that even their $20 bumper needs a hands-on!

Cheers!

It's called not being a slob and maybe, just maybe taking your phone out and giving it and the bumper a quick cleaning???

they wouldn't fit the existing iPhone 4 though, didn't they move the volume buttons too.

Maybe this means the new iphone in June will be the same design as the verizon one

A YouTube video posted yesterday reveals that Apple has released new bumper models that are compatible with both the existing iPhone 4 and the CDMA iPhone 4 set for release on Verizon next month.

It fits both

i dont think its because the case was not cleaned, i think its either not a OEM bumper or maybe he put the bumper on while on the beach LOL. I never seen this with any oem bumper before....

A death grip is a problem on all mobile phones.

On can, however, "deathgrip" the AT&T iPhone with one finger tip in the right place. I hope the Verizon iPhone is different.

That's absolutely not true. All phones do not suffer from the death grip. That's just blatantly wrong information.

Actually I take quite good care of my stuff. Why should I have to remove the bumper every week to clean the inside of the case? Ever notice the hard plastic interior of the bumper case? That mixed with debris causes the scratches. A soft interior would remedy that problem.

The bumpers are phony, a ruse to prevent Apple from having to explain why the Verizon phone works so much better than the GSM model.

You assume that the Verizon phone will work so much better.

Several million users will screw with their network just the same as it did on ATT. And perhaps just as badly.

So we can look forward to a potential Verizon Antennagate as the media tries to tell us that there is a major design flaw in those phones. Instead of the true, which will be that Verizon wasn't as prepared as they thought. Their comments suggest they are betting on about 12 million iphones, with around half that being existing Verizon customers. So when they get 3-4 times that amount, they could end up overloaded just like ATT did when they made the same mistake.

You must be out of the loop. Verizon already handles more data than ATT. They'll handle even more data just fine. Verizon isnt ATT.

3:00 long?

I love how this guy takes three minutes jawing through a demo that could have taken literally 20 seconds to do.

Ouch. That's really unfortunate. Surprising that one of Apple's own accessories did that. You'd think that they would have taken that into consideration. Was there any dirt on the inside of the bumper?

bumber is crap

unfortunately my apple-issued bumper has already begin tearing to pieces and is on its last legs. certainly not worth $35.

it also completely scratched and marred the phone's metal band. huh...

Sorry for my ignorance on this subject, but what is the purpose of the "bumpers" is it the same as the rubber cases to protect the phone from scuffs / scratches?

i have the black bumper. i thought the whole point of it having a rubber gasket encasing the phone's edges was to seal out crap from getting in. thats how it worked on my other 3GS cases -- the fewer times you removed (loosened) them, the better they worked.

not so here.

love my phone, but shtty case. rip-off at $35.
