A whole year later and all we get is 3G and GPS. I'm unimpressed Apple. what are you doing all year!

Yeah I agree... i was waiting for the front sided camera.... unless they are going to release a new one next year just for the camera update... HA!!! or in about few months down the track because a new camera addition for another year... what are you doing... swimming in your billions of dollars.

And the camera is still only a 2megapixel????

Also, I for one was really hoping that Apple would introduce a 32 GB iPhone. Sure, 16 GB is fine for my needs, but I felt that if the iPod touch had a 32 GB option, then so should the iPhone. Steve himself even referred to the touch as an "iPhone with training wheels."

When he said 2.0 update in "early July" at least we know that it will be out before July 11, as that is the release of the 3G phone, which requires 2.0. So, they'll have to have the 2.0 update finalized and released before that launch, so that all activations from July 11 on will get the 2.0 update, but they have a month, so maybe it will be sooner, so that those units shipped for the July 11 release will be pre-loaded ahead of time, which may mean it will be available sooner.

one more thing...
(disapointed that it wasn't said)

but dramitcally improved audio? hell yeah. im always down for that. but give me the info!!! how is it better!

sdk is the ****. locations is hella rad. knowing where your friends are is going to be huge with the kids, but it freaks me out. no one is going to know where i am. i'm just waiting for the first, "you were at sally's house werent' you!", "no, i wasn't", "like hell, my iphone said you were there"

but knowing your location is going to be great for parents and what not, with the parental controls they mentioned, i'm almost postive they'll make it so that parents will be able to see where there kids are. even if the kids don't want them to.

assited gps, is a ****ing rad, battery saving feature. wifi can help determium my location? seriously? so my wifi router has my physical location associated to it? i ****ing hope not.

google earth just got ported to the web, street view is awesome, google transit is awesome, its just a matter of when you'll be able to get your gps directions in street view form, or 3d or topicgraphicall, or ****ing damn. gps tagging with the iphone. neat. to bad they didn't update the camera.

and yes, they'll come out with another (32 gig) iphone in september, anyone want to place bets!

and is the 3g network solid enough yet to have a full rollout of a front side camera. like apple flawlessly style video conferensing....nah... probably not, that will be the in the iphone3.0

and to get his off my chest, who in the hell is going to buy a tablet mac?

Top on my list was copy/ paste. Is this so hard to achieve???
Perhaps it is there. If I were Steve, I sure wouldn't draw attention to the fact that such a trivial feature has been missing for so long by touting it at a major press event... Here's hoping it's just one of those quiet little things that it "also does".

I resisted paying to upgrade to 1.1.4 the first time around; assuming I can step up to 2.0 from whatever version my iPod Touch is at without having to upgrade in steps? If so, then the $10 price tag is not very expensive at all for what we will be getting!

$10 iPod touch upgrade fee is very reasonable, IMHO. I think Steve made a good move there, considering they'll make money on every app they sell through the updated software...

Trivial? It's such a huge part of every other "smart" phone, I'd hardly consider it trivial. Understated and taken-for-granted, perhaps. I would've expected Steve to make a big deal out of it, complete with a huge slide that just says "Copy & Paste" on it and nothing else. I'm sure the crowd would've gone crazy.

Cut And Paste!?!?!?

Where is it?

And will I FINALLY be able to sort phone calls by All, Missed, and DIALED???

Looks like current 16GB iPhones still have some value being able to run new software for free with maximum storage capacity. (No 32 GB version.)

Mac OS X 10.5 is required for SDK. But will it be necessary for end users?

End users don't need to own a computer!! You can download your apps from over the air or through cell connection.

It meant OS X splitting off into two directions. Regular OS X and iPhone OS X.

my guess is that something else was supposed to be announced today, and it didn't for whatever reason. i mean with the wwdc golden gate flyer. it showed 2 bridges. what does it mean? i'd assume 2 products. could it be mobileme and the new iphone? i don't think so. it sucks that its a month away to release, not 2 weeks, but oh well. my guess is that they'll introduce something new, within the next couple of weeks, or at least update something. like the ipod mini. 8gig ipod mini or 8gig iphone? 199?

now what was in those brown boxes!!!

Wow, what a crappy WWDC keynote. No iPhone 2 release, not even the OS 2.0 firmware release that everyone on the web assumed would be launching today...nothing.

The worst part is that this means the 2.0 software update is still in beta and has not reached RC stage. Hence, we won't see any firmware 2 leaks before the official date, as the betas require private crypto keys from Apple for each individual developer.

Firmware 2.0 seems as underwhelming as I was afraid it was going to be. The push gateway isn't actually very good (and no IM until September at the earliest? Poor). Exchange support is no use to me.

Meanwhile lots of essential features (copy and paste, proper bluetooth, file uploading, MMS, horizontal keyboard in all apps, horizontal mail support, individual SMS deletion and forwarding, decent YouTube interface, Flash or voice dialing) are still no nearer than they were at launch.

And even despite the plaucity of features, it's still not even ready!

Sigh.

Aaaarrrrggghhhh

Still no MMS
Still no copy and paste
Still no To Do

And we have to wait another month for it...

and it's going to be cheaper than 6 months ago when I bought one

Mac user for 20 years and starting to lose the faith... but only a little

I dont see much of a difference between software aside from exchange support. That aspect is disappointing. I really wish monthly service wasnt so expensive so I could actually justify buying one of these!

an all round disappointment i feel!

I will be sticking with my current iPhone unless i get the rumoured free upgrade from o2....

3G is great but im always within range of an accessible wifi network.....

GPS - good but not worth the extra cost...

Let's hope something is up Steve's sleeve

Apple Couldn't Hit a Target if their Lives Depended on It

Honestly, I sort of predicted this would be the outcome last night as we were all salivating at the mouth for a release today. These delays are becoming common place with Apple and it's kind of unsettling as a stockholder. First it was Leopard, then the SDK, then iPhone 2.0, and now iPhone 2.0 again. We've gone from it being available in February to March to June to July. We're going to be going another month with no iPhone sales at all while consumers sit on their hands until the 3G is released.

Jobs should just stop announcing release timeframes, or at least make them very broad. I wouldn't be the least bit shocked if they delayed the release of the 3G iPhone further. You don't come out and delay something like the Enterprise software TWICE. late June and Mid-July are two totally different dates. The SDK went from end of February to March.

ANyway, here's to the next month!
