Apple only needs to sell a little less then 142,857 iPhones per country to meet their goal. I think they'll exceed the 10 mil.

ok i hope this question isn't redundant or stupid:

since powerpoint and other office apps are supported now can i download let's say 100 ppt presentations in various folders to my iphone and view them offline on an airplane?

or does this only apply to documents on the web and in emails like now for pdf and .doc?

Yeah I agree... i was waiting for the front sided camera.... unless they are going to release a new one next year just for the camera update... HA!!! or in about few months down the track because a new camera addition for another year... what are you doing... swimming in your billions of dollars.

And the camera is still only a 2megapixel????

well, with the sdk it should be possible to do video. with a little mirror/lens device to clip onto the iphone you get a front side camera. together you have video chat, a cool business idea and maybe 1 million customers x $29.99. Thatis 30 mio sales. Somebody should do it.

If I buy an iTouch tomorrow, will I still have to pay for the firmware upgrade? I know v2.0 won't be out tomorrow, but it seems like since it was announced before I purchased iTouch, I shouldn't have to pay extra for it. They're not going to charge an extra $10 for the new ones, so why should I have to pay it? I still don't understand the whole pay for new features thing... other companies don't do it.

I'm planning on taking advantage to the BTS promotions, so paying $10 for a free iTouch isn't the worst thing, but it would be nice to avoid it.

iPhone Task List for Apple (Just don't try and sync it to your iPhone)

Lots things left to do on the iPhone software. Hopefully a few of these will be released in July, and hopefully July won't be the last firmware upgrade in 2008.

  1. Copy/Paste
  2. Flash Player for Safari
  3. MMS
  4. View only outgoing calls
  5. Landscape keyboard in email (hint to mail development team: wait until the Safari guy has a few beers at happy hour, then ask him how he did it)
  6. Email Search
  7. iChat
  8. Task List (3rd parties will sell these, but Apple could do it better)
  9. Notes sync for PC (strangely a mac only feature. Outlook has had notes over a decade longer than mail.app)
On the plus side, it looks like we can finally unbury the "contacts" button from phone menu to the home screen. I also dream of voice dialing my favorites, and maybe even taking a video.

To your list, I'll add:

  • No Bluetooth DUN for tethering
  • No Bluetooth HID for external keyboards
  • No "act as a secure airport base-station for your laptop" as an alternative to Bluetooth DUN based tethering
  • No native remote desktop (or at least VNC) client
  • No native ssh client

Yup. Disappointed. Wont be buying it.

Fortunately us original EDGE iPhone owners won't have to buy the the 2.0 firmware - it's a free upgrade. Even if the new model had more new features than 3G and GPS, there's still no way I would replace a 1 year old phone. Seems like AT&T would likely need to charge extra for tethering privileges, which is understandable as 3G is fast enough some users would use it instead of a home DSL connection.

Give me a break. Do you really expect apple to ship a SSH and VNC client on the iPhone? There will be 100s in the App Store, but what kind of nerd expects that on a consumer device.

(no offense, I think it would be cool (nerd) but seriously don't be delusional)

Did I say it had to be bundled? No, I said it had to be native (ie. not handled via some web page, nor via interpreted code, but an actual installed binary on the phone). Learn your terminology.

is it likely that the apps will come? Sure. But I doubt the bluetooth profiles and such will be add-ons via the SDK.

Nope. Go out and buy an iPod touch (not iTouch) tomorrow, and you'll still be charged $9.95 come July 11. The only exception to this rule is with Mac OS X updates. Usually, if you purchase the previous version of Mac OS X after the new version has been announced, you get the new version very cheap. But with the iPod touch, doesn't matter if you buy it at July 10 at 23:59. You'll still have to pay for the update.

The solution is to buy the iPod touch on July 12, as it will then have 2.0 pre-installed.

OMG... That's right!
Now, the iPhone might just "cannibalize" the iPod Touch' sales... ;)

mmm...maybe, maybe not.
iphoners will still have to pay 30 a month for 2 years putting you back...720
itouchers well, they have to pay nothing.
