I don't think he deserved to be fired over those comments. Ridiculous.

The executives deal with a communist government and they are ok but he says an unharmful statement and he gets fired. Ridiculous !

It doesn't matter what you think. It matters what Apple thinks.

Apple doesn't employ communist governments.

You had never even heard of this guy until a few days ago. He is not the ”face” of Apple. 🤣

He is in the procurement world. In that world, I'm sure there's plenty of people who know his name, and will see it in the news when they read about how his job is to fondle "large breasted women." In Apple's eyes, it reflects poorly on them and they don't want that.

Yes, you got it. Not long ago, you could say anything you wanted, and not worry about it. Now, we know better. We know the power of our words can hurt and upset people.

Why keep using the N word, when you KNOW it hurts and upsets people?

Why talk about groping women, when you KNOW it is demeaning?

Take a moment and think about what you are actually saying there, because you are NOT being respectful, you are NOT treating people well.

You already know the answers to your questions.

And there's some real irony in the answer too, because a whole lot of people, people who've never had to deal with the pain any of these words cause, they're the real victims now, because they can't use those words anymore without experiencing some pain themselves. And why should they? Pain is for other people! If everyone else would just toughen up - you know, like them, the people that can barely handle the notion that using hurtful and offensive words might come with consequences - everything would be right in the world again

You know, I just put two and two together and realized as head of procurement he’s most likely the one directly dealing with these “communist goverment” straw men people are bringing up. If I understand the meaning of procurement correctly (the article itself i believe mentioned his work with and opinions about tsmc ). Funny bit of irony there.

I thought I’d see more reasoned arguments from the “right/libertarian” groups (which I used unfortunately and regrettably because in between my comment and this one, I saw at least three comments about the “left” and “democrats”). There are some even I an avowed leftist democrat would agree with or find some validity in. Don’t lower yourself to ad hominem attacks.

I’d also say we should all not assume the “loudest voices in the room” mean the room agrees with us. I noticed between my previous post and this, I was seeing the same names engaging. Go actually talk to your dads, your wives, your preachers, your daughters, your son’s friends and see what they think and why. Touch grass.

The last thing I’ll say is that, to the non-oppressed group, changing in equality and equity will always feel like oppression.

That and phonepoasting sucks, so sorry about any typos. Apple get your autocorrect together.

What a d-bag. That’s all I got…

Update: I would like to thank everyone for your support and help in getting me the most disagree votes I’ve ever had. It is truly an honor. I will cherish this 🏆 forever.
I think most people get he was making a Donald Trump pun and not being serious. When I saw this I was like, "HAHA. Great dig on the Dolad Trump Access Hollywood grab a woman by the 🐈‍⬛" comment.

Maybe he is just a d-bag and not that great of a comedian, but I think he was trump trolling.

My dude, saying the N word tops music charts. And those same songs also say far worse about women. There are also plenty of songs which do the same toward men. Also, plenty of men and women like being degraded. It’s a kink. Are you in reality here like the rest of us, or judging the world from a computer screen?

No, the person who is ignorant and reckless here is Mark Gruman of Bloomberg who wrote the article and put his own spin and out of context wording from a tiktok video that was clearly done in jest/a joke with all those involved in fits of laughter but along comes Mr Gruman who injects his own opinions of the video by calling it 'crude' and that the VP fondles 'big breasted women' for a living. No, the person 100% at fault here is Mark Gruman with his own opinionated article in getting a man fired from his job.

Gurman reported on people’s complaints and comments. He didn’t create them. And the Apple VP publicly apologized. Why would he apologize for something that Gurman supposedly created? And do you really think Apple didn’t vet the story a little and talk to their own employee before firing one of their top execs? Obviously, this became an embarrassment to all parties and so they all decided that he would get his golden parachute a little early. This exec is probably thanking Gurman right now.

Is the #2 song on Apple Music racist, misogynistic, and demeaning?

So now the left is fat shaming.… you cant make it up. 🤡

Turns out the left cant even live up to their standards.
I love how you define my political affiliation off of one MR post. That's amazing.

It's idiotic to buy a car you have you have to crawl out of when you can barely crawl out of said car. He has the car because he thinks it makes him look cool. He's a douche for a lot of reasons demonstrated by that video and that's why I shame him.

So the 20 something woman who crossed the street in my town the other day in a tshirt-as-dress that barely reached the bottom of her buttocks should be completely ignored, not looked at, and not judged in any way, positively or negatively? Do you honestly believe she chose to dress like that to avoid stares? To avoid judgement?

News flash: choices have consequences, for men AND women.
Let me explain this to you slowly: No matter how someone dresses, it does not in ANY WAY give you a license to make derogitory, degrading or sexist/sexual comments.

Whether or she chose to deliberately wear something revealing is immaterial.

Let me leave you with this final thought: Cosplay is not consent

Is it? It might be, but it's irrelevant, because it's got nothing to do with anything we're talking about now. Cardi B isn't an executive for a large and well known brand, and she isn't expected to act with professionalism. Instead she works for herself, and if the record label she's partnered with doesn't like what she's saying, because she makes them look bad, they'll dump her. But they knew what they were getting into when they signed her, and so it's kind of a non issue.

The mental gymnastics are impressive and all, but what's the point? This isn't a complex situation. An executive working for Apple brought negative attention on himself and the company he works for with his "joke," and Apple didn't find it funny. The end.

Music like that is marketed to 14-21 year-olds who have the time to get that out of their system in college/work. This is only really shocking because for ten years you had everyone on the same page as you (because of how technology evolved and left behind the people before you) and now there are two different generations that grew up in a completely different culture to you. You either adapt or move on.

it’s relevant, because it serves as an analogy.

the record label can choose whether or not to work with her. thats their prerogative and not something im interested in.

apple can choose whether or not to affiliate with blevins. that actual decision im also not interested in.

the **pressure** behind those decisions is judgement from the public—i.e. people like YOU, and that is something im interested in:

do people like you think he should lose his job? if so, why? is that judgement consistent with those on cardi b?

what apple did has already been done. and tim cook is not here to explain the decision. but you are here with an opportunity to justify your thoughts.

I think that’s the problem. Most people watching that video probably haven’t even heard of or remember this movie so they would take it at face value and think what a creepy person he is. I don’t think the guy should be fired over it since it’s clearly a joke but it definitely wasn’t a smart move.

It’s just really weird with the context because there are definitely movie buffs or general nerds who drop quotes as a sort of in-joke. I do it with family and friends all the time, and many movie quotes sound plain bizarre without context.

Your analogy is nonsensical and irrelevant for the reasons I already went over.

It’s not so much that I think he should have been fired so much as I understand why he was. Of course he’s going to get fired for saying something like that on camera.

Before you feel too bad for him, remember that executives live in a different world from normal employees. This is only a minor setback in his career, another company will scoop him right up.

Just to be clear. I never said we should say n****** in our day to day lives. I am saying however, if there is no malice in its use, there should be no negative repercussions.

Reading Huckleberry Finn out loud for example. If, in the course of conversatio, n***** Joe is brought up, we shouldn’t go to DEFCON 1. Or if a white person is singing along to a black rappers lyrics, them singing n*****I should not be a problem.

My point is, a word has no power if we don’t give it any. I also feel that, unless all black people stop calling each other n*****, that word will always exist. Set an example, be the change you want to see, and all those other positive aphorisms. You don’t see Jewish people going around calling each other k***.

At the end of the day, what you say or joke about should not matter, how you treat other people should.

The guy was at a car show, NOT at a company event or representing Apple and he was quoting a movie?

I dont get why people give a ****.
He shouldn't have said what he said, but i do agree, he shouldn't have been fired. Not at work or at Apple event.
