Damn, my iPad Pro is slowly dying and I now find myself in the category of people wondering wtf Apple is doing with the iPad line. I paid under 1000€ for my 12,9” 256GB pro gen 2 back in the day and now a similar model would cost 1600€ + pen and cover, which brings it close to 2000€.

I have never found myself lacking power in the iPad so an M2 processor seems totally wasted and it’s all because the iPad is still uncomfortable for anything other than browsing, streaming and reading. I don’t like editing video on it, processing photos in Lightroom is just slow, a lot of people love drawing on the iPad but I hate the pencil… even Affinity’s apps, which seem great on paper, are just awkward to use because of the unintuitive UI – which you have to learn separately because it is totally different from the desktop UI, which is also unintuitive. Adobe’s apps are lite versions… what is the processing power there for, no one gets to use it!?

1600€ for watching movies on a relatively small screen does not seem like a great use of my money, so I ordered a Surface Pro. I can live with a slightly poorer tablet experience if I can just get stuff done on it. Time will tell, but Apple is leaving the door wide open for competition to come steal their users just because they don’t want overlap between laptops and tablets.

I just wish someone would find a way to hackintosh an iPad pro.

And here I am typing this on my MacBook 12" still dreaming of an Apple Silicon MacBook 12" which would be insanely light, portable and absolutely capable of most of the mundane productivity tasks thrown at it.... and if you're a big screen junkie heck plug it into a 27" display when at home or in the office. sigh!

Apple is working on at least a dozen new devices set to launch between late 2023 and early 2024, according to an updated product roadmap shared by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In the latest edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman explained that Apple is planning to launch two Apple Watch Series 9 models and a second-generation Apple Watch Ultra alongside the iPhone 15 lineup this fall.

Substantial updates to the Mac lineup will launch starting later this year or in early 2024, encompassing new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, a refreshed 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M3 chip, two new MacBook Air models, and new 24-inch iMac models. In addition, Apple is said to be "conducting early work" on an all-new iMac model with a display larger than 30 inches in size.

Gurman reiterated that an updated iPad Air to replace the current M1-based device and two new iPad Pro models with OLED displays are on the way for 2024. Third-generation AirPods Pro, a refreshed Apple TV with improved specifications, and other "home equipment" such as smart displays are also in early development. A new generation of Apple's Vision Pro headset is unlikely to arrive until 2025, he added.

If a second generation Vision Pro is released in 2025, do you think it could come out at the 2025 WWDC?

Very curious about the appleTV. Do they take trade-ins? I don’t need 6 of them. It’s not even about the money really but the e-waste of it all.

It makes much more sense to keep the 24" iMac for the general public. And for those in need of a more sophisticated computer offer the Mac mini and the Studio with more monitor options from Apple. But that is just my opinion and Apple knows better what the people want.

Just give us a new M2-or-M3 iMac, with a big display already !!!
I'll fork over the cash, but I WON'T buy last years trash !

Then why not just buy a wired mouse? 🤷🏾‍♂️
because most of the time I use it wirelessly, but I'd prefer not to have to hunt for another mouse when it needs a recharge like a turtle stuck on its back on my desk?

The port placement is a poor design choice, it may be the most universally agreed upon poor design choice in recent Apple gear, why are you so comitted to defending it?

Amazed they are still bothering with Apple TV.
Easily the best streaming box around, and that's especially important for those of us who don't want to give our smart TVs network access. I also can update them more frequently than I update my TVs, and they serve as the most reliable homekit hub available right now

Running TV manufacturers’ OSes is like running Linux. It works but it’s often janky in terms of UI. Apple TV is just so much nicer. It’s also nicely integrated with the rest of the Apple ecosystem of course.

Why a larger than 30" iMac? Why not a Mac Studio with one or two high-end monitors?

I can think of one good reason. I hope it is true. An iMac does not need an HDMI or Thunderbolt cable and should not be limited by the HDMI or TB interface. With a direct, no cable interface to the GPU the speed potential is not limited.

I can imagine an 8K screen running at 240 frames per second. Maybe they will connect the GPU directly to the LCD panel and build something with video we've not seen before.
internally the machine almost certainly will use a displayport link to the display, same as thunderbolt, no difference in GPU performance. The limiting factor on GPU performance is not the delivery of the signal to the panel in any case.

I'm looking forward to the MBP with M3. Hopefully Apple doesn't make any cost cutting with a slow SSD in the base model like they did on the M2.
I mean, Apple is done with using two 128GB chips so if the base unit is 8/256 then it will have the same drive speeds as the other 8/256 Macs.

Considered a refurb M1 iPad Pro? They’re like new from Apple. Forgive me if the refurbishment program doesn’t exist over there.

Perhaps look at buying a used one while you wait for Apple to improve its lineup? 🤷

Ok, so it's not so much that Apple is releasing 15 "new devices". Rather, it's that Apple is going to provide scheduled updates to all of its existing product lines, exactly as it has done every year for the last decade and a half.
