Why people buy the shuffle...

iPod shuffles? do people really buy these pieces of junk? zzzzzzz:mad:

They're really really nice for working out with. I have an iPod and I honestly don't need 20 days worth of music, a screen (you're running after all), an extra armbracelet to put it in etc when I work out. Just load the shuffle up with fast-paced music and off you go.

Same goes for when I'm skiing/snowboarding, where there's really no safe place to put an ordinary iPod since some people have a tendency to fall and slam any surface of the body (at least where pockets are located anyway). The shuffle is likely to survive, and worst case if you land on top of it, it was only $79...

(Although an iPod-shaped bruise would be kinda cool ;)

Yes, yes. Yesssss! The US does not have to factor in Corporation Tax or Salary Costs because US companies do not pay tax and all the workers are happy to work for free.

Apart from those who forget that the US prices are net of sales tax, the reason for the endless bitching is that the UK prices are frequently substantially more than the VAT differential, and more than can be explained by exchange rate buffering. Apple is not the only company guilty of this, though.

Well, it's not just the tax, but you also have to take into account the minimum wage etc. Like in Norway, where I was earning more per hour working in a fast food restaurant my first month than my bf who had worked in the same library for 5-6 years (not even working for min. wage), you obviously pay more for products in that country.

For instance, the 15.5" MBP w/256 MB graphics card is about USD 2500 + tax (7%) = US$ 2675. However, the same MBP is selling for USD 3650,- inc. 24% tax and using the NOK/USD exchange rate of today. Dell Inspiron 9400 sells for about USD 2600,- in Norway.

Thus, if Apple is going to charge their customers a premium like they do all over the world, it's obvious that it can't be priced the same as the "lesser" Dell.

Another big factor to take into consideration: The exchange rate. The USD has, as far as I know, depreciated slowly against pretty much all the major currencies the last couple of years. Since Apple is an American company, you have to take this into consideration as well.

Time to get one of these puppies. I bought one for my wife and it is really cool. My Mini has been acting kind of strange lately so I need something to workout with. The orange one looks pretty slick.

apple business sense

This latest rumor didn't happen of course, but regardless I think Apple really need to get back on the ball in a business sense. There are lots of things Pros are now waiting for which are holding up sales worldwide for Apple. Our business has a major hardware update every 5 years (like pushing it huh!?), but we are now way over that as we are waiting for apple to move on 3 fronts.

We want to replace our dual processor G4 with an 8 core Macpro, we want a 30" (minimum) HDMI compatible display and a minimum blu ray superdrive, preferably dual format though, i.e. HD DVD capable as well.
By the way I laughed when I saw a recent comment along the lines of "Why on earth would anyone want HDMI-in on a computer display", the guy obviously doesn't own a HD/HDV camera or work in video production!

Until all of the above happens our money remains firmly in our pockets, driving our local apple supplier nuts! We told him in November that we had the cash ready to go. I would suggest there are thousands of Pros around the world in the same boat. Let's go guys!

A quickie question.

1. As far as I know, there is no bigger (hi px density) dispalys that the 30" dells or apples. Apple obviously havent HDMI and neither does dell.
If you have to have input for HD cameras, why dont you use 3rd party lcd/plasma displays for it?

OR,

2. If you shoot HD, why dont you use for example BlackMagic Intesity cards, with wich you could capture "true" HD straight from the camera.
Then use ACDs and reference monitors to supervise and do the correction?

3. And the blue/HD dvd is a lacking problem.. Not that you cant get third party drives at the moment, it is just that is there any programs that support blue/hd dvd writing in OS X atm? The new Toast supposedly is and next update of FCP, but.. ?
