How many times does this have to be explained? Apple UK itself has to pay more taxes than Apple US. They have to factor in the costs of things like Employer's NIC and the UK Corporation Tax into the prices before VAT. Otherwise they run at a loss or can't meet their own tax bills.

So if you want to scream at anyone for the price discrepancy, start with HM Treasury.

Thats what we are trying to say. Britain is one of if not the most taxed nation in the world and it sucks. We do not blame apple or I would have said Rip off Apple In Britain but I am saying Rip Off Britain as it is HM treasury that is to blame. Any way did not mean the price conversation to go this far I was just stating the fact.

Surely the best indicator is just to see how much of a profit Apple makes off each item after tax. If they make more this side of the pond, then they're ripping us off. If its the same, then we're not being ripped off.

Or is there a flaw in my theory?

Does anyone know the approx. profit on each iPod for example. Some sales guy in Micro Anvika (*spit*) told me they (the reseller) only get a £5-£10 profit on each 8GB Nano sold.

I don't think it's that we get taxed too much. We need taxes in order to fund institutions that are vital to maintaining adequate quality of life for all. I would rather pay a bit more tax and have a free health service than follow the American model.

However, I think our tax bracketing is completely skewed. Middle-income families bear far too much of a tax burden compared to the obscenely wealthy. Any remotely sensible conception of social justice (imo) requires a 50% top bracket rate for the mega-earners, perhaps even higher for the obscenely rich.

I totally agree- the rich just get richer.

I wouldn't mind paying at the tax levels we do if there was an indication that the money was actually maintaining or improving things. All I spy at the moment is waste, no communication, pension holes and extremely poor planning (*cough* full prisons *cough*).

Anyway, how's about them Shuffles? :p

It seems like it. That is if you are under the assumption that I made a serious claim in the first place. ;) :D

There was no assumption. You portrayed yourself as making a serious claim. We didn't need to make any assumption as to how you were trying to portray yourself. ;)

You may need to choose your sources more wisely next time.

Price is way better for the displays in the US than for the rest of the world. Different conversion than the usual. Still too expensive.

But those Shuffles are great, I am really thinking about getting one.

Actually I don't. I was just mocking some people. Those that actually interpreted the ;) right, knew that I was just fooling around. If you didn't I am sorry. Either way, if I was really worried about my prophecy rep on a rumor board something in my life would be going seriously wrong. ;) :p

If you actually took the time to try and con people into thinking that you knew something you didn't, then that might be equally indicative that something is misplaced in your life ;)

Yes, yes. Yesssss! The US does not have to factor in Corporation Tax or Salary Costs because US companies do not pay tax and all the workers are happy to work for free.

Apart from those who forget that the US prices are net of sales tax, the reason for the endless bitching is that the UK prices are frequently substantially more than the VAT differential, and more than can be explained by exchange rate buffering. Apple is not the only company guilty of this, though.

colored Shuffles are there

ipodshuffle

go to apple.com, I can't post the picture here for some reason.

Not that I really care enough to enlighten everyone as to what I intended with the post but since I am already here... it was just a tongue in cheek post to show that there are always people claiming to know more, etc. Just fooling around, mocking the people that take this sooo seriously.

And to the misplaced thing in life... we're all geeks or we wouldn't be here, so let it rest, it's a fruitless discussion.

We are all geeks. Unfortunately I'm a geek who's avoiding doing any real work. Leading people down their own traps is one of my only outlets of fun until 6pm.

And yes, this is fruitless. The irony being that I couldn't give a toss about either iSights or Shuffles.

sorry i haven't read thru this entire thread, but can we safely assume no mac pro today?

N enabler in the US store too :D

It's in the Canada store as well. $2.49 CAD. (2.84 after sales tax is included.) I hadn't noticed if it was there before this most recent update.

Hey! Given current world prices, the Canadian pre-tax price should only be 2.35 CAD. Apple's stealing 14 cents needlessly!

Nope, so it would be helpful if you noticed the multi qoute button:

multiquote_off.gif

...and actually started using it... ;)

Let me see... .... ahhh .... oooooh .... coool

:D

The thing is though with the new display prices and no integrated iSights we may really see those at a later point because right now you can't do video chatting with a Mac Pro or a mini.

I am still waiting for a video iPod with the iPhone iPod functionality, that'd be nice. :)
