So much for best selling iPhones ever streak. Could be new theme across entire product line. Charging more for underwhelming products that they have intentionally held back performance/features. Look at the MBA.

According to rumors, next year iPhones will be just incremental updates. Number of early adopters will dwindle and Tim will have to offer higher trade in offers come November 2019. But I say offering X at 599 is a step in the right direction

Short of lowering the phone price, iPhone Upgrade Program should be restructured for mass majority.

Currently, iPhone Upgrade Program lets you upgrade yearly while paying monthly price that is essentially retail price + AppleCare+, divided by 24 months:
  • iPhone XR:$37.41/month
  • iPhone XS: $49.91/month
  • iPhone XS Max: $54.08/month
I would restructure the plan that spreads payment over 48 months, allowing 1 upgrade every 2 years, making AppleCare+ optional (I can use my credit card's Mobile Protection Plan). The price then becomes:
  • iPhone XR: $15.61/month
  • iPhone XS: $20.81/month
  • iPhone XS Max: $22.90/month

They let you do that in the UK over 20 months. It’s called iPhone payments:

https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/iphone/payments/overlay

Strangely, it’s fairly hidden on their website, and the webpage is hardly enticing, so they clearly don’t want you to go for this option.

Well, I just got my battery replaced in my 6S yesterday and it’s running like a charm. This would be more tempting if Apple sold a new phone at a size and price that was appealing to me. The XR is simply too big for my tastes. The XS is also slightly bigger than I prefer and comes at a price I’m not willing to pay.

Just curious. To folks who have done a trade-in with Apple, what has been your experience with condition and final value?

Our 6+ is in great condition. Phone works perfectly and screen is in perfect condition and overall condition is great minus a tiny nick in the aluminum. Will that blemish reduce the final trade-in value?

Minor wear and tear is fine as long as there's no water damage, screen cracks, bent phone, etc. These trade in programs aren't strict by design because the credit only applies towards new device purchase. If it were trade in for cash then it would be a different story. Didn't have any issue trading in an iPhone with yellow spot on screen and got full value.

The thing is I got a new iPHone 6s for $150, HOmepod for $240, and a 6th gen Ipad for $210 or $600 total and still saved ~$200 compared to buying an IPhone XR. :)

$200 trade in for the 6s is pretty good tho. You can actually get a 6s for $140ish from Cricket right now.

Damn, missed opportunity for $250 credit for the spare iPhone 6s Plus rolling around at home :( It's my backup, but willing to let it go for that price since don't feel like selling it myself :(

I would have gotten an XR by now if it was $100 cheaper and the phone itself was smaller. Sticking to my 7 for another year at least.
yeah I finally saw the XR in the store and it's quite huge. Was that their mistake? Selling a huge phone at a price increase and not having a new smaller cheaper new one? Even the XS is bigger to hold than an Iphone 6s/7/8.

$300 for an iPhone 8 Plus? Seriously? I got $650 for mine on eBay.

This is apple trying to lower the price without actually lowering the price.

Double squeeze technique.

"Where Apple charge you an arm and a leg for a brand new phone and give you peanut for your pre-loved iPhone."

Didn't know time is tough...

Well the promo worked on me.

I just ordered a new XS max and will mail my iPhone 6 Plus.

When I get home, I’ll send in my wife’s iPhone 7 Plus or her 6 plus for another XS max.

This is the first time I’ve bothered with getting rid of an iPhone. I have a stack of iPhone 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 versions.

Thanks papa Cook!
You have wasted a few grand for sure. How would an extra $100 make a difference, whereas you didn’t bother to
recoup a few grand?

Papa Cook? Were you in vitro?

Considering the XS wasn't released that long ago and I would have gotten double what I got for my trade in, F U Timmy.

Frankly, a few hundred dollars per phone wasn’t worth my time selling them each. This mail in exchange to Apple makes it not too bad. I have a lot of items, cameras, camera lenses, computers, etc that I don’t sell because it’s just not worth my time. They usually accumulate until I donate them.

Apple products I usually just keep around as memorabilia since I regret having gotten rid of my Apple //e, Mac SE, original PowerBook, and other products from decades ago.

But with iPhones, except for my 1st iPhone, I’m starting to think they’re not worth keeping.

In vitro? I suppose you would know.

Why would someone opt to do this instead of selling it via craigslist or swappa and getting much more money for it? This is akin to selling games to GameStop and getting peanuts when you can cut out the middleman and sell something for what it is actually worth.

Primarily because that isn’t Apple’s base. Their main customers are so wealthy that This is kind of viewed as an instant rebate in their eyes. Give up my former phone which I have no use for, save $100. Most uppity folk aren’t gonna want to put in the time and effort of dealing with craigslist strangers.
