will probably check it out after years of not going to 3rd st promenade

brings back memories of munching on benites belgium frites with thai peanut sauce - watching all the hot young california girls walk by on a nice summer day...

"wish they all could be california girls..." - beach boys/van halen

in memery of benites frites (r.i.p) - 3rd street promenade

Its getting close to an hour now applefan. Seems like its only me and you is interested!!!!!!

Wow, an hour is a long time. I just noticed it after I read your comment like 20 minutes ago.

BTW, it's before the stores open, so maybe they're bringing out something new.

Yep thats an hour now. Maybe just an internal crash on that part of the site. Was just thinking about the rumours of the MM or perhaps the TB display is now available?

Usually when they come out with new stuff, they say the store is down.

BUT, the retail stores have not opened yet, and the online store's been down for an hour. That's unlike Apple unless something is coming out (but then they would put that "they're updating the store".)

So yeah, it's probably just a crash.

Since Santa Monica's sales tax was raised to 10.25% in the interest of squeezing more dollars out of the 'tourists', I have not bought anything at 3rd Street Promenade. Nice place to look at things, but it's a short drive or internet shopping to avoid the tax increase.

They are addicted!

Apple and their glass adiction :)
Not meaning that in a bad way i am just saying that they are.

Long live :apple:Apple:apple:!

Same Architect as NYC Upper West, AND

they have to deal with pidgeon droppings there (do they have pidgeons in Southern Cal?)

http://archpaper.com/news/articles.asp?id=4165

Its a beautiful design, with the cable trusses, and lights and sprinklers hidden inside the primary beams. Although, it looks like the roof in NYC would drain better, but Im sure thats been well analyzed too.

The article states that the glass roof will be cleaned by men, not machines. That would be a fun time to be shopping.

Im just hoping Apple scoops up the soon-to-be-vacant Border's Bookstore in downtown Boston and do the same kind of thing.

You're worried about the glass in this store. You've seen the mothership. By far it has more. Apple hires people who are the best in the business so that when the building is up, it stays up. You don't hear much about cracks in the glass for their stores, or that the front wall is down.

Have a tad more faith in the company.

Love the look,

Apple stores are amazing when it comes to customers satisfaction. Haven't seen a store/experience like them yet

Not an Apple Store

Clearly this is not an Apple store. The drawing shows a dozen or so people. I've yet to be in an Apple Store where people aren't stuffed in like sardines.

What happens if there is an earth quark?

what happen if it hails or there is an earth quake... Where's the back room>

The building codes have changed since the 94' northridge earthquake alone not to mention that alot has changed in the last 17 years. the glass building would be fine in a earthquake.

i just don't want to be the one to clean all those windows.

Looks beautiful!! But seems there are some major flaws in it as pointed out by the comments on the first page.

So Apple rightfully doesn't install Flash because it is a energy hog but they have a building designed which doesn't function without a tremendous cooling system which is a much bigger energy hog. Stupid this design.

Geothermal cooling and heating. Up front cost of drilling a hole. Ambient temperature just perfect and its free. Less lights on in the store, because of all natural light. These are just a few things that come to my mind.

Love all the experts on here. I bet Apple's architects are glad they stumbled on this thread ;)

On the internet, lack of any expertise on a topic is no barrier to being certain about it.

^^^ Very much this!! (Like the sarcasm;) ) This will never happen.

Yeah, because there are no tall glass skyscrapers in Los Angeles or anywhere in California (see below). The CA building codes have never before contemplated a building proposal that incorporate glass. Apple is messing with forces beyond human comprehension.

How's that for sarcasm?

For all those people bitching about sunlight and cooling costs--get a clue. Virtually all skyscrapers built these days are predominately glass enclosures. The glass will surely be reflective, and it will both lower cooling costs and avoid the bright sunlight problem.

Also, this article raises an interesting point: If Apple is looking to expand its retail offerings to stand-alone spaces, there's about to be an awful lot of empty Borders stores nationwide. And there's a good subtext that most shoppers will probably pick up on when they notice that the out-of-business book store has been replaced by an iPad-selling Apple Store.
