For the price, there is no excuse for releasing supposed high quality headphones with such a pathetic case. Apple should be ashamed. And yet, people appear to be buying them as fast as they can find them. Strange times.

I’m not the biggest fan of these, but I also think it’s pretty ridiculous to judge a product I’ve never seen and never used based on what I think might happen in the future.

Also, not a single review said they’re “too heavy.” And this whole “off button” thing is nonsense.
Some of the reviews I read gave the actual weight compared to competing products. As to the lack of an "off button," how is that nonsense? Many (most?) of us want the ability to turn powered headphones off, either to save battery life or to do our part for the environment, or both. Why shouldn't we care about that?

Also, while we certainly can't judge overall comfort or sound quality without trying these headphones, there's no reason why a consumer can't reasonably say "I don't want a product with no off button" or "I don't want headphones that are significantly heavier than the competition" or "I don't want to spend money on headphones that don't come in a normal case." We don't have to try every product competing for our dollars.

Any more ridiculous than 1000’s buying on the same premise, that is never seen, never heard, never tried on and yet ordered nevertheless?

On a separate matter, there are a number of reviews whereby it is said that due to the weight of them, that movement of your head can mean they move and become unbalanced

So providing product specs is the same thing as saying a product is "too heavy?" Interesting...

The consternation about the off button is nonsense because the headphones turn off when you take them off your head. You don't need to "turn them off" because they "turn off" by themselves. Not sure why so many people refuse to accept this. From the recent MacRumors story:

"Over a four hour period, the ‌AirPods Max‌ didn't disconnect and the battery life drained a total of three percent."

And "YouTuber Andru Edwards...saw three percent battery drain over the course of 10 hours with the ‌AirPods Max‌ sitting out on a desk."

It's a non-issue that people are trying to make into an issue because they have little else to complain about.

And of course you're correct that consumers can make their own purchasing decisions. I was responding to someone who said things like "it looks like the mesh doesn’t have enough support" and "that mesh will wear down." You can't make definitive statements like that and posit them as truth when you've never even seen a product.

Yes, substantially more ridiculous than that. It's totally reasonable to purchase a product to try it out before making a decision, since you can always return it. It is not reasonable to pass definitive judgement on a product you've never seen, nor touched, nor heard.

And do you not understand the difference between the statements "X is heavy" and "X is too heavy?"

So much for the environment. Let’s design a wimpy case that doesn’t do squat to ‘actually’ protect the headphones and not include a physical switch to turn the headphones off the most basic of function that can only be achieved by the case??? And then include basically what is a power button pointless useless case and force it upon you to have to use and keep with you basically at all times? Just I can’t even wrap my head around this. These headphones already need a ton of mental gymnastics in rectifying/supporting the decision to purchase them in the first place. So don’t tell me even for a second that that headphone case is even remotely intelligent or good for anything. Apple is truly different this year and this cr*p is only but a sign of lord knows what else they are going to pull. They are completely separated from reality at this point. Quite sorry rant over

Jokes aside, does anyone else find it a little difficult to put them in the case. First you have to turn the earcups then have them bang against each other before you have to lift the tab and carefully slip them in. Eventually that constant friction will cause scratches. I’m going to look for a case where I can just put the headphones in normally. I don’t mind a big axe. My “luxury” headphones certainly deserve it!

I do understand the difference. The fact that the actual word heavy is used in the context of a headphone says something in its self. If something is able to become unbalanced when moving your head that also implies something is too heavy?

I went to the Apple store today to test it out. Just putting it back in the case is so cumbersome that it put me off immediately. The tension on the head is a bit too much as well. Its sleek but its not good design.
And the case is simply bad. The mesh is very fragile, I could almost cut it with my nails. If someones says its durable then I don't know what that person smokes but I want some too : )

Failed to be efficient? I’d challenge anyone to come up with a case that takes up less space than this one LOL

If I was going to be spending over $500 on headphones they better look like these and come packaged like headphones costing over $500 should.
I'm not a fan of those particular B&O's you posted. I honestly think I've seen nicer looking Chi-fi Headphones .. But P7's and 5's on the other hand IMHO look gorgeous.

However the only color I like in the AirPods Max though is Black, all the others give me an uneasy feeling. I think it's the lack of any defined edges and the fact that they actually look like a computer render only in real life. Kinda makes it hard to for my eyes to focus on them properly weird as that sounds.

Style is subjective though.... look at sneakers, they get more cheap and gaudy looking each year and yet more expensive.

The whining about the case and the price is getting boring. I'm glad they did not include a huge case with this product. There will be plenty third-party cases in a few months for those who need it. I'll be using the smart case + a soft drawstring bag (that came with one of my Audioengine speakers) when traveling.

You could ALMOST cut it with your nails? I state that you absolutely CAN’T cut it with your nails. Now, go back to the store and give it a try! Nothing to lose :)

And, it’s still the most space efficient design anyone could create.

Which ones do YOU have in mind?
This, well, unless you consider this a BRILLIANT design. In which case, we’ll just differ on that :)

They do have the option... They sell an adapter cable. It even works if the battery is dead.
Some magic going on there ... how the hell does the audio conversion work when the battery is dead. I'd assumed that the signal was digital to the cans and in turn processed. So there must be some creative re-routing of audio signal over two/three of the lighting pins to make that happen ?

I mean, its a bi-directional cable that works with an iPhone as well to provide 3.5 output though so there "must" be a DAC/ADC in the cable right ? And that needs power o_O

Secondly, now I'm really interested now how they sound completely passive without the DSP doing its thang.... if as good (or better) then they have really done one hell of a tuning job.

I imagined they should sound pretty decent with the technology they have going on, but if they can match that with a pure analogue signal as well - thats really a feat.

Question is, with all this great battery life has anyone with a lighting to 3.5 drained them fully to test :p

Without actually having access to them, which most never well, price and case are two of the big three complaints. :)
