There is no proof that it would have ended in a different name.
And it is also not a good thing. A CEO needs to let the people with the expertise in that area do their job.

Honestly, if Apple is good at anything, it is definitely marketing.

Finally, an intelligent post. Where most are inane and a race to the bottom.

Thank you.

I hope that we can buy different colored chargers and not just get color matched chargers with the phones. I don’t want the charger to match the phone. I have more than one charger in different locations and I want to choose the color for the place where the charger sits.

why did this thread so suddenly turn into a TC hate thread? damn. colored MagSafe options would be nice—if you recall, one of the (many) legacies of the original iMac was offering them in bold, translucent colors as opposed to the standard beige/grey/black dominating the market at the time…

yeah, iPhone MagSafe isn’t the same as MB MagSafe in terms of saving it from a trip, but the core concept is the same. it makes sense to name them similarly. and Apple is finally contributing to the open standard in Qi2…yall gotta chill sometimes
I don’t know about “hate thread”. Many of the posts I see on this thread that are even remotely pointed at TC are not negative.

That said, many would say that stories about things like the color of a device, and Apple‘s own focus on colors in advertising (see recent ad blitz about a new “yellow” iPhone) speak to corporate priorities, and the buck for that stops at the top.

On “MagSafe” the issue I see is that there is nothing “safe” about the design of the magnetic element on phones, where there clearly was in the laptop implementation.

That’s a very good point but Apple is a Tech company, not a marketing company.
Please... why not both?

Software, hardware, marketing, sales, retail footprint, manufacturing deals, tax sheltering, ROI, iterative design, hype drivers, subscription modelers, digital storefront pioneers... you don't become one of the biggest companies in the world by just doing one thing, tech -kinda alright. Everyone knows an Apple ad. They've pumped billions of dollars in to advertising of many different varieties, and they've come out on top. https://www.apple.com/ca/leadership/greg-joswiak/

What an innovative joke!
Such a courageous comment!
Edit: Dang it! Someone else did it first.

Using the “MagSafe” name for that charger shows how deeply mediocre Tim Cook is. Unlike MagSafe for the MacBook line, MagSafe for the iPhone line does not keep iPhones safe from falling to the floor if the power cable is accidentally pulled.
Not only that so much energy is lost through this type of wireless charging. Much better off with a USBC cable.
