isn't Nokia owned by Microsoft now, who is actually innovating for the first time since in forever? And doesn't Apple depend on Samsung for a HUUGE amount of product for their whole lineup? as far as i know, apple doesn't make their own displays, and never have. I think it is ridiculous really, and everyone who gets all up in arms make my day. we are consumers, yet some people act like a slight on Apple is disrespect to them.

btw, I've owned apple products for many years. first iPhone i bought you had to buy outright.

It's unfortunate that this had to happen. As Apple moves ever more into the health and fitness space, having a product like Withings's Blood Pressure Monitor in store helps people to see how technology can impact their daily lives-I've purchased one for 3 of my family members in years past and all 3 love it, and use it with the health app on their iPhones

Nokia has sold its mobile manufacturing division only to MS. It's still a multinational with its own telecoms business. It bought Alcatel and Withings last year.

Samsung is a conglomerate of independent companies who share the same name. The Samsung who produce memory are a different Samsung who produce screens, and so on. There are even Samsung clothing, automobile and shipping companies. If they did all merge into one company they would be too big for their own good.

Because the only place you can get a Withings product is an Apple store?
Obviously not and I apologize for not mentioning my point that the Apple Store is almost certainly the highest visibility retail location for these products though; you don't see them featured with the same prominence at Best Buy

So was Amazon also petulant and childish when they stopped carrying iPads and Apple TVs? (when they came out with their own, competing devices)

I see both sides to this. However, I can't blame Apple for pulling Nokia's product. For example, I look at it like would you provide service or give your business to an establishment that was accusing you of stealing? Of course you wouldn't. You would avoid you it. Until this law suit is settled amicably, then I foresee Apple and Nokia separating.

Well Apple Stores are usually packed so I don't think there is "no point for anything else" for a lot of people
IMHO, Apple stores aren't there to sell 'stuff'. They are there to promote Apple. People go to the Mall/High St and see an Apple Store (or a reseller something like iStore) and remember that. Much like their advertising. Most of the time the Ad is not saying 'We are Apple, buy our stuff'. You see an Apple Ad and you remember it because it is not OTT with the apple brand/logo. Much of the time they don't advertise a specific product unlike the MS Surface Pro 'I couldn't do that with my Mac' ads.
Brand presence and recognition is what it is all about. TBH, selling anything is a side effect of that. That's why the staff can answer your questions etc. Unlike some retailers that guide you to the product line that will get them the most comission that week even if it is not what you went into the store for in the first place (PC-World, I'm looking at you.)

That's right Apple, throw more time and money at solicitors rather than product R&D.

How many millions have they spent now on lawsuits?

not the first time Apple pull this crap. It's almost if the entire retail market is controlled by some with the maturity of highschool freshman

I have to wonder where those who say this is childish and petty are employed. Apple's actions in this matter are consistent with my decades of middle to high-end retail experience. I spent some years on the vender side as well. This isn't an emotional reaction by kids running a lemonade stand, this is pretty straightforward example of how it's usually done.

So is it "petty" that Microsoft stores don't sell iPhones?

Is Disney wrong for not putting Shrek on its shelves?

All seems reasonable to me.

EDIT: Releasing an OS update that blocks them from working on with iPhones would be petty. Not selling them is totally different.

yeah I don't see Microsoft surface or Samsung phones in apple stores, sorry but that is the logic behind your assertion .

Had Microsoft sold iPhones and Disney shrek, made profits out of them, and pulled the products as a result of a lawsuit you would have a point.

This is petty crap, pulled a few times by apple in the past. Childish and bullish. If you consider an mature adult or company throwing its toys out the window reasonable , this is reasonable .

Run out of innovation juice, only solution is to cheat lol MAKE PATENT GREAT AGAIN

I know it's their right, but at the same time, it seems so childish. And let's face it, Apple is suing other companies left and right too. In fact, haven't they battled Samsung? They should cut all ties with Samsung too (yeah, right).

What is *childish* about being mature and saying hey if your suing me I'm gonna place sanctions on your products in MY stores.

Duh.

That's childish? I mean seriously people. What's up with some of you?

Litigation is a serious matter. The merits need to be litigated. It's Apple that feels Nokia is the child in this fight. Action breeds reaction.

It is. There are no adults in this world. There are only older children who no longer have to behave.

Poor little Timmy - having a temper tamptrum.

If so, master Timmy should stop selling Fitbit products.

Uh...Apple pulled Fitbit products from their shelves shortly after debuting the Health app as Fitbit refused to tie their trackers into it. That was years ago. Not sure how that's a temper tantrum though...

Sounds like Apple is saying Withings is more valuable than the patent litigation, and Apple has made the Withings brand what it is by promoting it heavily in Apple Stores.

I certainly would not have been nearly as aware of the brand if they hadn't been one of the few non-Apple devices in my local store. It's a major seal of approval.

They chose to feature that brand when it was no threat to them. Now they are a threat, so they're removing the brand. They don't sell Samsung, Microsoft or Google smart watches in the Apple store either. Why would they.

Sounds logical to me, and may work as a negotiating tactic with Nokia.

Shame they're not even remotely fair analogies.

It doesn't strike as unethical or petty to make a deal (FRAND in this case) and not abide by it through a loophole?

Well President elect Trump would consider that "smart"! LOL. Sorry couldn't resist.

People are calling this childish behavior????? Here's an analogy: You have an employee. That employee tries to scheme against your company to create a lawsuit against your company. Firing the dude is gonna be the first thing you do... It's not childish to pull product from a company that's clearly not playing nice.
Think before you post people.

Yeah actually things just don't work that way. If an employee sues you and they're still an employee the last thing you do is fire them. What you do instead is try to settle (quietly) or ultimately litigate in court and then do what ever is legally possible to get rid of them. You could only fire them if the suit in question crested a conflict that made it impossible for the employee to perform their duties. This must be well documented and reasoned as the action can be seen as retaliatory in court.

A smaller company with a less experienced legal team would fire the employee and the employee could then sue for damages not only pertaining to what ever issue they had with the company but then for retaliatory action. In fact the company may even counter sue the employee as a matter of course and yet the employee can then sue in in return claiming the counter suit is malicious and ultimately frivolous.

Honestly the lawyers always make out like bandits in these scenarios any way you slice it.

Good. I would go a step further and kill all their software on the App Store, and kill all installations of their software on all iOS devices.

I would love for this to happen. Apple wouldn't have a phone business as a result and would finally have to give some love to its neglected computer departments instead.
