My first one worked fine. My second one? Well, it's sitting here on my computer desk awaiting a $5 micro USB cable. I went on a whole rant on Facebook about why there is a micro USB port and ethernet port instead of a full-size USB port and the option to buy a wired adapter. Arrgh.
Personally I'd rather have the Ethernet port which I use all the time rather than a full size USB port I might use once in a blue moon.

I don't have Apple TV, but in general it just seems like they've become way to sloppy releasing updates and features when they're not ready. Why not wait until you've done thorough testing and got it right rather than continually damage your reputation? With Jobs & Forstall gone, it seems as though no one over there at Apple have any balls. You've got your two top guys screwing each other in the ass. I'm not a hater, I've been a Mac user since the 90's. I just feel like something is missing in the chain of command at Apple

If you don't have an Apple TV why comment? Also thorough testing is a myth - always has been always will be.

My ATV2 updated on Friday via Wi-fi, it did take a long time going thought the process of updating but it's been fine so far. Used it for mirrored Airplay yesterday and it's been on today too, if only briefly.

Hope Apple can get the issue sorted soon and those affected can get up and running.

Messed up my ATV and I don't have a micro usb cable laying around.

It's amazing Apple is even too ****ing cheap to include one with the device.

Mine got bricked. Had to use iTunes and a USB cable to restore the device.

Still working for me, maybe related to iTunes Radio which is not available around here?

CORRECTION: Just read about the connection errors - today my Apple TV wasn't available in iTunes but was showing up again after I rebooted Time Capsule. Didn't really assign this to the latest update, but now I do.

they source different chips for the same task from different vendors for the same SKU. chances are that some apple tv's with some chip in there didn't like the update

Seems like Cook et al. can't get ANYTHING right these days:

1 - Overwhelmingly NEGATIVE response to iOS7 and a pathetic version created for the iPad;

2 - Inventory debacle concerning the under-produced 5S versus the anemic demand for the 5C;

3 - pulled Apple TV update.

Time for Cook to go - bring back Markkula, Tevanian and Serlet, please.

And don't forget the recent 10.8.5 update with the display/hard drive sleep issue.

So I am now in a position where I am practically unable to update my Mac Pro, Mac Mini, MBP, iPhone5 and Apple TV - my entire lineup of Apple products - because of Apple software screwups. And I am afraid, very afraid now of Mavericks. It will not be compatible with my ZEVO ZFS drives which I have turned to because Apple has not provided an updated file system to protect my data. I feel like Apple is working against me rather than for me at every turn. I will not put up with this forever.

Mine works fine, however it did take an unusually long time to update. I thought for a while it may have froze and was bricked. I would say it was at least 30 min to update.

Mine is an Apple TV 2.

Same here.

Also when listening to music the Volume starts off real low and then about 3-5 seconds into the songs the volume goes to what I'd say is about 125-150% of normal. Sounds horrible.

Funny, I noticed the volume bump the other day - I had turned the volume up when listening to something or another and after a while the volume bumped itself up.

I did my TV2 yesterday. The (wifi) download was very fast, but then it took perhaps 45-minutes to actually apply the update. I considered stopping it because it took so long -- seemingly sitting there stuck at about 3/4's through. When it finally rebooted it again took forever to get going. But I let it finish and so far it seems fine.

My 1080p updated to 6.0 without any issue.
Been working just fine, but I have to say iTunes radio sure sucks -- I told it 3 times in 10 minutes to never play Head and the Heart on my station, yet it keeps on playing it every few songs. Lame.

When I started my ATV2 update over wifi yesterday, it said 3 hours remaining on the download. After about two hours, it was up to 4. I plugged in the Ethernet and it downloaded right away. Applying the update too a while, which I understand is normal.

The ATV worked fine after the update.

Then today I tried to do some AirPlay from my iOS devices but kept getting an error. The fix was to unplug the Ethernet and go back to wifi. Weird.

to;dr - despite some network issues, the update went fine for me.

So Apple is rushing to fix this lemon of an update, but they keep pushing 10.8.5 with all its sleep issues, etc.? :confused:

Oddly, my AppleTV 2.x updated just fine to 6.0 the other day. I can't say the same of 10.8.5 which has been playing sleep games with my external USB 3.0 media drive (I think setting my monitor to not sleep has patched it for now, though).

WTF is up with Apple quality control these days??

iCloud goes down all the time, iTunes store unavailable, Apple TV UI sucks.....seems like the wheels are coming off....

I tried updating mine by ethernet, and it then showed the "connect to itunes" screen. I did that, it claimed the restore had gone fine, and when I hooked it back to my HDMI connection, it was still showing the "connect to itunes" screen.

However, I pulled the electrical plug and let it reboot, and it restarted fine. I'm now running 6.0.

I had problems with mine. It seem like it was stuck while downloading. I left it on over night and it was fully updated.

Didn't brick my ATV3 thank god. However, I am experiencing weird networking issues. I'm even hard wired via Ethernet.
