Seems like Cook et al. can't get ANYTHING right these days:

1 - Overwhelmingly NEGATIVE response to iOS7
Where did you get this idea? IOS 7 on my iPhone is fantastic. That is an iPhone 4 by the way so you might say it exceeds my expectations.
and a pathetic version created for the iPad;
Well this is true, the iPad version is loaded with bugs and does not live up to the expectations I have for Apple.
2 - Inventory debacle concerning the under-produced 5S versus the anemic demand for the 5C;
That is baloney, We all knew via leaks what the score was with the ramp up of the 5s.
3 - pulled Apple TV update.
That does suck.
Time for Cook to go - bring back Markkula, Tevanian and Serlet, please.
I'm not sure if there is justification for that, we simply don't know what the decision making process was for iOS 7 on the iPad which is obviously not ready. The Apple TV update is puzzling, I don't own one so I can't comment on the units failures, but bricking hardware is bad voodoo.

I'd have to say that the iOS 7 release is a mixed bag with the iPhones obviously doing well with the release.

mine bricked during OTA update but I restored to OS6 in iTunes and now it seems to be working fine....I'd had a string of really bad Apple software coming at me the last little while....Im afraid to update anything now :|

dont like ios7, 10.8.5 killed my sleep/wake, appleTV got bricked

I've had no issues with the update so far. It did take a long time to run it though.

And don't forget the recent 10.8.5 update with the display/hard drive sleep issue.

So I am now in a position where I am practically unable to update my Mac Pro, Mac Mini, MBP, iPhone5 and Apple TV - my entire lineup of Apple products - because of Apple software screwups. And I am afraid, very afraid now of Mavericks. It will not be compatible with my ZEVO ZFS drives which I have turned to because Apple has not provided an updated file system to protect my data. I feel like Apple is working against me rather than for me at every turn. I will not put up with this forever.

You're paranoid about an update breaking your macs? Do you even back up your data?

Mine was bricked

AppleTv 3rd gen.

Bricked with flashing white light after update. I tried to restore 3 times through usb cable, but no luck. I was going to take it into the apple store, but left it unplugged all night and was working when I plugged it back in this morning. It has been working since.

Very strange.

Connect to iTunes... Now, where in heaven am I supposed to find a micro USB Apple??

It's pathetic that they don't include a cable with their device. It's like something a cheap Chinese knockoff company wouldn't even do. Very un-Apple.

Edit: I also think it's crazy that they use micro USB. They need to be using the same lighting connector as the iPhone.

You're paranoid about an update breaking your macs? Do you even back up your data?

Look, my data is backed up every which way to Sunday. I have four Macs and not only do I have complete clones of each OS (including SL and ML) but separate Time Machine ones as well for each. In addition to the OS backups, I have two complete backups of data on-site plus one that gets rotated offsite (about 4TB for each data set). So I am not worried about Apple's software updates bricking anything (except maybe the Apple TV) or losing my data; what I want is the additional functionality/security/compatiblity that normally comes with updates. That's what is held up right now and increasingly so by Apple's faulty updates.

Software updates: always breaking things that worked totally fine, yet for some reason it's still widely accepted that updating is important.

What's more likely:
- you losing data/functionality because you didn't update, or
- you losing data/functionality because of a bad update?

I use Time Machine overwhelmingly to revert back to previous versions of applications (namely Skype, Steam, Final Cut, and more) rather than to recover files I accidentally deleted.

Both of the two I updated (still haven't updated the third) in my house are working fine so far (knocks on wood). They are all mounted to the backs of my wall-hung TV's. I'll be pretty upset if I have to diss-mount the TV's to fix them if they mess up.

C'mon Apple, you had months and months to test this!

This may be a silly question, but when you mount them like that (to the back of the TV) how does the remote still work? Doesn't the TV block the IR light?

Brick my brick

Brick huh ??

not mine... My two ATV 3's is running smoothly with the update.

Anyway, thank goodness I updated in time.... Now i can still enjoy all the benefits.

The fact there there is no news from Apple, sounds like their playing the "opps, we did it again" game the same they did with Maps.

And if you have a backup handy, you can always revert back to it if you feel an update doesn't work out for you.

My update went fine however wi-fi speed is awful, streaming from iPhone over airplay is just unusable.

it does, but thankfully the IR signal bounces of my speakers and behind the TV which is perfect..:)

Um, there is no reason to be melodramatic. Bringing back Markkula, Tevanian, Serlet, or even resurrecting Steve Jobs isn't going to mean everything is Ponies and Fairies at Apple. The Smartphone/Tablet market is more competitive now, and tech is a weird point in history in that it was huge for a few years, and is suddenly secondary to most things. The "Let it get out of the way" approach from Ive, even if not the best one for absolutely everything, still does resonate with the market more than I think we realize...

Yup, I had some issues with mine too. The installed proceeded normally until the reboot. I'm not sure exactly what stage it was, but when it completed the Apple TV was inoperable and the light on the front just blinked. The TV had the 'plug into iTunes message'. That restored the 5.3 software to it and then I re-upgraded to 6.0. Things have been working just fine since then. I'm using it via ethernet and everything seems to be working fine.

Thought mine was bricked till I unplugged it and plugged it back in. All was good once it restarted.
